I found it informative so I figured others might too.
Edit: This is the same article from Eurogamers that is listed under the news thread(listed as Eurogamer Preview: Diablo 3), so if you already read it this is old news.
Sorry about that I didn't see it there.

"Ultimately, if someone can always replenish their mana and replenish their health, then game balance kind of goes out the window," admits Pardo of the old potion system. "So it also allowed us to do more interesting things with the classes themselves. If you can't always just save yourself with a potion, then it makes other skills suddenly crucial for combat, like escape skills or crowd-control skills or things like that, which didn't really matter in the Diablo series previously."
Sounds good to me.
Edit: Just saw these tidbits.

There will be some form of new trading system, including easier ways to trade between your own characters, Blizzard recognising that the ad-hoc system in Diablo II wasn't really good enough. There will be "something like" World of Warcraft's Armory, an online database for items, characters and equipment. There will be several difficulty levels, although there's no decision on a permanent-death "hardcore" mode yet.
GOOD TO HEAR. (But I've never played WoW. What is the Armory thing?)

Blizzard has said that the witch doctor does not mean that they would have to exclude the necromancer, but I think that there would be overlap if he was brought back, they both summon and both cast spells. Necromancers have been a huge part of the books though, so who knows, we'll have to wait until the expansion.
I would also would like the game to be much longer than Diablo 2 and since WoW got 2 expansions D3 should too.(doubt it though)
Regardless D3 will be the best game ever.

Blizzard stated the barbarian was the only one returning as a playable class. the other 6 classes can, and in all likelihood will, make cameo appearances or be used in some sort of quest, either as the quest initiator, or someone you meet along the way.
The other 6 classes are not out of d3, they are just not playable.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Yeah, thanks, other people wanted the Necro back, I don't really care. It would be cool if they were included in the story somehow or if you fought along side them.

just like the article says, its a database.
It includes all the registered WoW characters with all their current equipped equipment and the likes.

"The Witch Doctor is a colourful voodoo necromancer"
uh oh /cya necromancer from d2 lol
Now you'll be able to show off your character to people that don't have the game.
Since there will be a armory, I'm assuming the deletion/expire system will be gone.
If you can xfer items to your other chars using the armory.
It would make xfering easier and safer
