Im so mad with the way the attitude of making it a "fast paced" game is being implemented. Nothing wrong with fast paced, but the way in which they are doing it is resulting in the stripping of components of Diablo that make it what it is. Make it "easy", fast paced and brainless for all of us with ADD who can't pause every once in a while and regroup - that would cause us to lose focus and attention!
I don't follow. Diablo II was pretty brainless.
No, we must have seisure-inducing color flashes without stop to maintain our attention. We dont want any challenges. Even when you're just standing there, have the weapons spew lightning and flames, in case we lose focus of the game. Take away the slotted inventory.. that would challenge those of us unable to stack a shelf at home with books or pack a travel bag for vacation. God forbid you have to stop every once in a while and actually LOOK at the items you found. Honestly I am sick to my very being. Its like taking something precious and special, and trampling all over it. Blizzard I think used a team of WoW developers make this game. I understand their money came from WoW, but Diablo gave money for Wow to be started, too! The state of this game fails in so many aspects in my view.
Color flashes to maintain "attention"? What?
Diablo III won't be challenging? What?
The weapons spewing lightning/flames [and you didn't mention it, but so do the colossal shoulder pads] seems a bit far fetched, but I don't see anything wrong with it, nor how it's childish.
Putting items into the inventory was challenging? What?
In Diablo 3 people won't look at the items they find? What?
God forbid Diablo III resemble another game in any way whatsoever.
The thing is, these things are deliberate changes on Blizzard's part, not accidents, or things that need more work, or the inability of their staff to implement things. They did this on purpose!!!
No, I'm sure they accidently designed Diablo 3. They just randomly pressed buttons, and ta-dah!
People say "inventory does not make Diablo" or "Graphics do not make the game", or "Diablo is not about this or that". But you know what? There comes a point where so many things add up that soon we are talking about a game on our hands that is _not_ Diablo. The scary thing is, a large number of people seem to not want a Diablo, but a World of Warcraft with the theme of Diablo. Maybe because people wish Blizzard made a World of Diablo instead (Diablo themed, but like Wow) ?
No, it's not Diablo. It's Diablo III. It's different.
I kid, I kid.
Seriously though, what do you have against the inventory change? Why is it bad? Is it because WoW uses the same inventory system? Just because it's used in another game, even if the game is kiddy, it doesn't make the system itself kiddy as well. I do not see the inventory system as kiddy, nor do I see it as non-"Diablo" like in any way.
We've seen a significant amount of environment, and I don't see how it's kiddy. Maybe I'm missing something.
Personally I will keep watching what they do to the game, but as it looks, I think this title is not going to be something I play. The agony of it will render me unable to even look at it.
...Le Sigh. -.-'
I, as a WoW player (thats right Ive been a longtime addict), wish WOW had never happened. It has spread into Diablo like a plague, a malignant cancer. We think Blizzard can't fail? Well for what its worth this is going to be one title that I will not have the privilige of enjoying.
Maybe I am overreacting, but the more I watch the gameplay video the more I feel this way.
I for one am not on the bandwagon of "even if they dont fix it i will still buy it"
This is just me though. I am sure many disagree, but just throwing out my thoughts on this for what they are worth. I cant not voice myself, its too much to keep inside!
What do you have against WoW's influence in DIII? What bad influences has it had? I'm simply not seeing it.
Swing and a miss. It's almost like you don't know me at all. Oh wait.
The art style is colorful, vibrant, but that doesn't equate to childishness any more than gritty dirt and depressing colors equates maturity. There's more then enough blood spatters in screens to place it outside of the kidz range graphics content wise. Childishness is a good buzz word to drive a point of view through without explanation, though. "A glow on a weapon is childishness" means "I just hate the weapon glow."
Whats the mature style? Muddy palletes, everyone in the game mean-mugs for no reason? Maybe says the f-word ever so often? No flashing stuff and an inventory that takes 3 seconds longer to organize? Are those really the standards games are judged by today? Not gameplay, depth, story/plot, and all that other stuff?
I have to agree with you, Childishness is not an accurate term, since I know many who are older folks who play WoW just fine, so thats a bad word for it. But you can see the reasoning behind it. I suppose its preference. Still, no one said they need to sacrifice gameplay, depth, story/plot etc in order to retain the character/inventory management complexities. Those are not radical changes like revamping the graphical engine. But if they prefer smiling statues next to exploding virgins, well.. I am powerless to reason with them.

Colorfull and vibrant is certainly not childish, but smiling lion statues with perky little wings? bunny rabbits that hop playfully away from you? rainbows? shoulder pads that appear to be stylized after children's caricatured toys? Your right about the weapons too, these are the sort of overly flashy graphics seen in kids shows and anime movies. I don't want the game to be muddy, but lets face it, stone isn't green and darkness isn't a shade of turquoise. I actually kind of like the outdoor colors, looks natural enough and the watercolor look on its own reminds me of some of the great artwork by the likes of Boris Vallejo.
What do you have against WoW's influence in DIII? What bad influences has it had? I'm simply not seeing it.
Well, I might as well play Wow and ignore D3. I got a big enough dose of Wow graphics and simplified elements to not want to see that in another game, especially Diablo
WTF... Are you on CRACK. Blizzard has never failed to dissapoint on the release of a game. The day Blizzard turns into EA is the day I die.
If Diablo 3 were being made by EA it would have been released about 2 years ago, would have had 20 expansions by now and some of them would have only been a few new items. The game would be buggier than shit and the gameplay would have sucked.
Be thankful there are still companies out there like Blizzard you moron. You have literally no idea what you are talking about.

Go play Hellgate: London and leave us to Diablo 3, then.
Thanks for being threatened by my words enough to respond in an aggressive and negative manner.
Blizzard is nothing special, I've seen lesser companies do better. It's a matter of funds and lineage, the starting games gave rise to what they have now, in all truth they are no different from Gas Powered games or Epic games. But they are seemingly going their way to making spiritual quality a third rate factor, that's what makes them like EA.

Can I hit the rabbits with a mace? If I can they are acceptable.
And a dim rainbow that's forming in a place where rainbows ought to naturally form anyway is not unrealistic or childish. And they sure don't cover the land. You won't be looking at rainbows often.
I'm not sure which child's toy they model after. But they do model after those collectible WoW figures, and Warhammer armor. Both of which are bought by the 20+ demographic.
And here a real man wields a flaming sword. See not just for kids.
DIII's graphics are just stylistic. Still a good ways from kiddy.
Also the rabbits don't really bother me, I won't notice them while I'm mauling large groups of enemies.

I think you don't even know what your talking about. It seems you haven't played the past games of Diablo and don't know the whole concept of the game. The game's concept is not suppose to be complicated like WOW. This is why I get irritated by the WOW players that haven't even played Diablo and they're saying Diablo III is going to suck, or that it looks too much like WOW. Diablo players would know that its not about the "art direction" and they know its a simple game where you trade, kill, and etc.

The rabbits are invulnerable from the looks of the game play vid, the witch doctor throws a fireball at one at some point.
The rainbow has been gone over before, but basically a rainbow only appears if the light is behind the viewer, technically it shouldn't even be there. Its been added unnecessarily just to look "pretty", not something I particularly wanted to see. I could cope with things that were "beautiful" or "breathtaking" in a Diablo game but not "cutesy" and "pretty".
I am thinking of things like transformers and Ninja Turtles. I actually have read people saying before that WH40k and D3 armor look similar. Funny thing is I actually think the space marine armor in WH40k is pretty awesome, but still think the WoW/D3 style is ugly and cutesy in design.
The flaming sword pic looks cool, but lets face it the flaming sword doesn't have an immense glow effect around it or giant lightning sparks and even then is still meant to look "showy", I mean he is an entertainer from the looks of it!

I have played more Diablo1 and 2 than I like to admit to myself, so I am definitely not who you think I am.
Complicated like WoW? What they are doing to Diablo now is removing elements and reverting graphics to make it LIKE WOW, so that's simplification towards WoW.

Yeah, imagine if they dumbed it down even more!
Lol. I don't think Diablo III is created with the goal of being mentally stimulating in that way in the first place. Nor was Diablo I or II.
Blizzard is trying to make a sequel to Diablo. Unfortunately, many people seem opposed to the idea based on the art direction and graphics currently presented in the game. Honestly, their are many people who are satisfied with what they've seen. And I love how you brush off the fans of Diablo that are satisfied with what they see by saying that they want a World of Diablocraft. I think most of this anti-art movement is an overreaction. When I get to the final boss and it's a giant Carebear rather than a demon, then I'll raise hell.
It's unfortunate that some are already dead set against playing the game, it looks like a lot of fun. Good luck finding something else to spend your time on.

So you believe that simpler is better then? You don't think they should actually advance the things that worked in Diablo but instead use what systems that worked in WoW ( many of which were simplified and neutered versions of Diablo systems )? WoW is very far from a perfect game ( I loathe the game myself and many of my friends who have played it for years say it's just a waste of time ). With all this talk of "something new", you'd think fans would rather see a fresh spin on something they haven't seen done in 10 years instead of favoring more WarCraft ideas so that there is little uniqueness left in Diablo to make it a fresh new experience.
They have been developing the game for at least 3-4 years! That's a long time! It should be nearly completely as far as general gameplay is concerned.
i wont believe it until i see it. Knowing how it works in WoW its not bad, but again, WoW isnt a hack & slash rpg and its a standard in mmorpgs to level stats by themselves (LotRO, EQ for example).
Most important is they keep the talent trees. What we saw on the gameplay video (how easy they killed the mobs) wont be like what we do when we start the game. They just showed some skills and the character was several levels higher.
1. If they remove attribute points, the game should be boycotted
2. A Diablo Fan both hates and loves with a passion THE "TETRIS" inventory.
Ask yourself when you look back on D1 or D2 what do u remember first?
Then you'll realize, what needs to stay the same in D3
Honestly, that stupid Tetris inventory was a pain in the ass in both D1 and D2. Thank God they replaced that.
And I don't care where they got that idea from - if they had gotten it from ... whatever, Dungeon Siege or something, maybe no one would complain.
As long as the changes they make are not inconsistent with the Diablo universe, I very much welcome them if they lead to a removal of annoyances which the inventory was, no doubt.
A great improvement in convenience was that you could highlight items in D2, something that was not possible in D1. And I can tell you, it was extremely annoying that you had to search whole square meters fo floor for that ring you heard drop in the distance, where that fireball went ;-)
you've never played dungeon siege
and it was your fault for missing your fireball shot and spamming it
not D2's
tetris inventory ftw!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Maybe so, but it doesn't ease people's doubt or fear, unfortunately.
Why don't you ask Blizzard to prove to us, the other areas are indeed Darker?
Why hasn't Blizzard now show us these areas?
what are they afraid of? Maybe, complainers are right? That the whole game looks NOT dark?
