Sorry if this has been posted before (I'm 100% sure it has) but I just registered to discuss the importance of this issue, and hopefully everyone here agrees with me when I say that soulbound items will ruin Diablo 3. In my opinion, souldbound items much like in WoW will completely ruin the feeling of Diablo, and it's also a nuiscence when it comes to trading, basically this is the situation I dread which happened to me in WoW quite a few times and is one of the reasons I quit: Let's say I get a new piece of armor, and I use it for about 5-10 levels, then no longer use it, however it's a good piece of armor and I want some resell value for it, why shouldn't I be allowed to resell it to OTHER people instead of a merchant for a low price? To me, it's stupid.
That's all I have to say basically and is my biggest concern thus far, thanks for reading.
Um, that's great and I think 95% of us on the board would agree with you, but has there been any mention by Blizzard that they're implementing soulbound items (other than quest items)?
I mean, I think adding hordes of pink flamingos would ruin the game too, but if there's no indication of them, why bother mentioning it?
souldbound items are from wow and if they do this crap in diablo 3 Im going to be very pissed off.
While I'm on your side in this one, stop using the WoW argument, please. It's not the fact that they were in WoW that will mess up Diablo 3, but the fact that it wouldn't promote the heavy trade-based economy that Diablo 1 and 2 have built up.

I know it hasn't been announced, obviously, but since the game is evolving, it borrows concepts from other games, and this could be one, though probably a slim chance.
Soulbounding could prevent a monopoly of certain "supposedly rare" items or items that Blizzard just doesn't want traded all over the place.
If duping is prevented, what does it matter what people do with their items? It's theirs, and they should have the freedom to trade it or sell it or whatever they want to do with it. I hardly see how Blizzard would be affected by rare items being traded, which is why I wouldn't understand the implementation of soulbound items in Diablo 3.
Soulbounding existed in WoW to prevent people selling items for real money, thus breaking the game and the economy. Blizzard recognised the problem with all the sites selling Diablo II items. High end raid items in WoW are incredibly hard to obtain and time a great deal of time and effort to get - they are a symbol of your ability and dedication to the game.
Yeah, the point was to make sure that (for BOP items) that you had to clear that dungeon, or defeat that boss, to get the item. Items in the diablo series, however, are randomized. The unique axe can drop from a normal mob (level dependant of course), or from a final boss. Not applicable to the diablo world, and almost certainly won't be in D3 (quest items aside).

If there is soulbound items, gold will be the economy, and then gold farmers will sell gold, just like in WoW.
Whether this will exsit or not in Diablo... who really knows? It would certainly prevent gold sellers, but as Diablo II was so reliant on the item trading business, it seems unlikey.
Let's hope that remains true.
However, as long as the best items in the game can be traded from player to player, there will always be a website/company offering the item for real money, which is exactly what the gaming community doesn't want.
Then there will always be a gold farming company on the contrary, either way, people are going to pay money for virtual product.
I really hope they don't add this. An item I obtain should be my item and after I'm done using it I should be able to sell it or pass it on to someone else, not be forced to vendor it for a tiny amount of money.
If duping is prevented, what does it matter what people do with their items?
To prevent inflation, economy disbalance, etc.

I don't see since when did your video game item actually became your property.

The more you limit stuff like this, the more people will find ways around it. In WoW they have power leveling services that will get you items, gold, levels, whatever you want.
If I'm playing a game it's my characters property not actually mine. Soulbinding it is forcing him to do something with it.
I just don't see what your logic is. Video games are an altered reality, and what is done with our items depends on the rules of that game. You don't necessarily get control of all your items...

I'm completely against selling items for real money and duping, but if I want to give away something to a friend, I should be able to.
I want to make myself clear since people seem to be jumping on me with this. I am not supporting this idea. I am not saying it should be done. I am merely explaining WHY it could be done.

Unless Blizzard manages to make some kind of legal issue to prevent it from happening. I can't imagine how that would work, but I would love it so that we don't have all these little 6 year olds with perfect equipment that their parents bought for them.
Economy constantly shifting is a good thing, and is more realistic.
It's not because the economy is crooked and there are no outlets. There is simply more, more, more items in circulation and nobody is spending them. There is no consumption, rot, wear, tear, etc.

You know what I meant, don't nit pick. If you didn't know what I meant, obviously I'm referring to Diablo 2 type item ownership.
I don't know how DII works... I play SP.

Yeah, soulbound will fix this for sure, I mean, in WoW, nobody runs around in the same S4 arena gear.
I don't know how WoW works... I sense you are being sarcastic. That's not very polite of you. Oh well.

My logic is, my characters items are my characters items, why limit it if it's not completely necessary?
It's not going to be a instafix to all the item problems to make them soulbound.

"I believe that <insert belief>. What do you guys think?"
But no. We get:
"It's going to ruin the feel of Diablo / It doesn't fit Diablo and I am the only person who has the right to voice their opinion."
ON TOPIC
I don't think soulbound items will ruin anything... They could work or they could not, depends on how you make them.

Everyone running around in Enigmas?
If I'm playing a game it's my characters property not actually mine. Soulbinding it is forcing him to do something with it. It just seems lame.
