I felt it was only necessary to post a thread asking the community about solutions to the recent inactivity. Mephy can't do it all. I figured this was the logical next step since the inactivity has been addressed by a large portion of the community.
So, what can we do to rejuvenate the community and promote quality once more?
The problem: A lack of interest.
I know this is a huge issue because for a while there, I wasn't posting anything because honestly, there was not 1 topic worth even opening for some time. I would come check threads every single day, and every single day I remained disappointed.
The solution?: Make better threads?
Needless to say, that's much easier said than done. As Mephy(or...Godric? or Gordric? or somethin...idk, i always stick with the names I saw first) pointed out, it's hard to get people to even take interest these days if the thread doesn't give back immediate results to keep from boredom.
Here are my thoughts on the topic. We are missing a core of users that used to post incredibly interesting topics. I feel like users such as MD, Elfen, Thessador, Stormy, Atru, Daemaro and Siaynoq were kind of like the godfathers around here. In a way they single handedly kept the community alive because they cared so much as to put in the effort to make such great threads that kept people visiting and sharing ideas be it whatever the topic was about. But it seems, a lot of those users and many more (sorry if I'm missing any of the bigtime posters) have either lost interest and got tired of keeping alive a community that no longer seems to care, or have left entirely.
So, I guess there is only one option as to what MUST happen if the community is to have hope at being as rich in discussion as it once was. The other users need to step up in a BIG way. The active posters that are left that I would like to consider as "The second generation" need to be the NEW Godfathers of the community in terms of keeping it alive and well. I think they(we) definitely have it in them as they have seen first hand what the first generation or...the Nephalem of this site did that kept people coming back.
So, that's the only conclusion that I could come up with. What do you guys think? What's a viable solution to this problem we seem to be having?
Also, I think it's funny how this is just now being discussed when I know for a fact many people saw this huge decline happening months ago. For a period, old members were leaving in droves.

I appreciate your comments, guy. But I think it's best just to put your theory in practice. Step up in your own way, see if other people naturally follow you and do the same. You really can't make people increase the quality of their posts or be more active. I think all you really can do is ignore whatever is shit and continue posting what you otherwise would. For instance, I just commented in this thread talking about this whole issue just now. But I think I contributed more earlier by just finding some threads in various sections and replying to them. You know what I mean, string bean?

I agree completely. That's why I made the thread. Putting the theory into practice is definitely priority #1 on here right now.
No worries Turmy, You will soon have stuff to talk about thats for sure!

You two are some of the people I see most on the site and people seem to follow where you go a lot. Like for awhile, it really just seemed like the Turmo, Umpa and Nacho Club. My point is, nowadays you have a lot more influence than the rest of us. You're in the best position to be the new examples.
I agree with Siaynog, if your looking for someone to "lead by example" it would be those who are still our regular posters. I don't want this to sound rude or anything, but why complain about the lack of posts or inactivity, when you can do the posting to try and keep things moving? I'm trying to find things Diablo related to post about, but I'm kind of restricted on time because of R/L stuff.

I'm always here and find this site boring when I come on at any other time except the morning. We need to contact the other site and ask how they keep members interested.

Nektu, you've been a huge influence around this place. Once you joined for a while there it was Nektu central! You had several great topics bud.
Anyway, Ophion, I don't think another wave is going to help that much. I just think that those most influential on the site need to start contributing a bit more rather than just leaving because I know that I've definitely thought about just leaving at a few times. As siaynoq said, just keeep posting!

I think some members aren't coming back due to the site change.. that's why I stopped posting for a long ass time and for some time I didn't even check up on new info. For some reason I didn't feel welcome anymore because of the changes but I dunno maybe that's just me.

Why is there less activity? Why did people leave? These questions are more important, I'd say.
Maybe its my imagination, but when the site started changing, it went down hill. I'm just talking from a personal points of view, but the site had pointless changed, is now too much a part of Curse, which I despise, heck we got extremely unrelated news in the News forum some times because of it. Well, actually don't get me started on the news section. I find that its now very useless and poor, desperately over hyping small things, saying thins over and over, pointless posts... That also kind of applies to other parts of the forum as well.
I know I was relatively inactive for a while. Point is I don't see whats attractive about this forum anymore. It doesn't feel like the Diablo forum it was or should be. Way too many discussion are senseless. I hate when people make topics and try to discuss things that, if you had any logical sense or a simple grasp of the English language, you wouldn't talk about it. Yet thats what we get a lot. How many times in the past 6 months have I opened a topic and all I could say was "sigh..."... too many. Its not so bad right now, though.
I have my doubts that the place will ever fully recover from its switch to Curse. But it doesn't help that right now, there's just little to talk about and D3 is still far away.
It's not an easy task to renew something's heyday so to speak. Something big needs to happen, something everyone can participate in and make everyone feel welcome again.

I'm not really one who posts a lot in the Diablo section of the forums so I am definately guilty there. I do like to think though that I am more active in the Off Topic and General Discussion forums. And again I will apologize for my lack of activity lately but I'm gonna try and change that.
Nobody is "guilty"! this is definitely not a pointing fingers thread. It's merely a way to say "Ok, now that we have admitted we have a problem we are past the first step of recovery. Now lets try and fix the problem!" Or something like that...

I didn't mean to make it sound like this thread was pointing fingers. I just figured sinc ethis was regarding the Great Inactivity of '10 and you spoke about older members who should make an example I should own up to the fact that I really haven't contributed shit. And I kinda like to think I am one of those "veteran" members who should be setting an example for the 3rd generation of DFans.
I personally think people aren't coming here and posting because they already found what they were looking for by searching and seeing you vets discuss what they were thinking about, thus terminating their need to post, and the obvious lack of any solid, serious news about the game. Off-topic threads are easy to start but hard to maintain, and in a new community, unless you want to be known as the new spammin' troll you keep to your old community and post your silly thoughts and suggestions there.
When the shining lights of Blizzcon are lit beneath the clouded skies, beyond the tall and grassy hills, people will come running for this here site to channel their Diabloeqsue needs.
Before that I seriously doubt people will come here, and actually stay, unless they notice there's a core of active users posting interesting and funny stuff. That's when all of us come in, we need to keep this boat floating and try our best to make up new things to discuss. As someone said, contests is a way to keep people active, as well as having some kind of showcasing for fan-art and fan-creations and keeping those topics maintained.

Dude, you nailed this thing on the head. This is truth.
I know I got the no-activity syndrome... but I blame party... he changed his name and everything blew up...
nah, kidding... but I think that the changes in the forum were kind of a punch in the face for some regular users (I felt very uncomfortable with it at the beginning and I still feel it awkward... maybe it was too sudden) anyway...
