Ha best of 3? Ok so and my buddy join your game. You try to kick me...how is that working out for you? Oh it's not...? Damn why not?
Griefing is the end effect of unhealthy competition. If I don't like your build or I don't like how you are playing the game, I can grief you out, either with insults, kick, or a ton of other methods.
People are going to compete over killing methods, skills, gear, and overall play speed. If you don't live up to their standards, then you will be griefed.
Like I said, it won't happen for a bit, or it might IDK I can't tell that. I can tell though that it always happens and it always will. The developer has no power to stop it, people who want to be elitist or "bullies" will be elitist or bullies, the more people they do it to the more people get corrupt and the more it happens.
You and your buddy join.. me and the other player try to kick you.. 2 (us) vs 1 (your buddy).. you get kicked. Another player joins, and we repeat the process with your buddy. If you continually bully other players and as such get kicked often, it sends a warning flag to Blizzard which gets you banned. You are forced to buy another game to repeat the process. Blizzard wins and we don't have to deal with you for another few weeks while you re~level and re~gear your character.
You won't be able to kick anyone unless 3/4 agree and that wouldn't happen if 1 is my buddy haha.
Lets entertain your idea for a minute though, who initiates the vote kick? Party leader? Anyone? I can easily make a game and kick people then if that is the case. Wouldn't need much motivation, I am playing along..hey a guy joins lets use him for a minute...oh whats that we are coming up on a boss? Well know what dude..I don't seem to like you anymore, bye. Or I can filter through people and ask for gear or gold, if you don't answer right you are gone. Thus wasting their time while I am still playing.
You won't be able to kick anyone unless 3/4 agree and that wouldn't happen if 1 is my buddy haha.
Um the person being potentially kicked wouldn't get a vote so... two people that don't agree versus your buddy is 2v1. So you get kicked. Then probably your buddy gets kicked as well with a vote of 2v0. So yeah. Problem solved.
You won't be able to kick anyone unless 3/4 agree and that wouldn't happen if 1 is my buddy haha.
You seem to missed what I said. It'll be vote kick NOT GIVING THE PERSON BEING KICKED A VOTE. Its how it works in WoW currently, the person being targeted by a kick isn't given a vote. In WoW its actually possible to have the 2v2 situation because there are 5 players max in a party. However, with Diablo 3 only having 4 players max the max votes would be 3 and as such there would always be a majority.

Right except if I am the leader? Either way the kicking option leads to griefing to the level of hostility.

Nope, it doesn't lead to that actually. The most a player can grief is queue with a couple friends with the intent of kicking someone. Repeated griefing that way will lead to multiple reports against you and your friends, likely leading to bans.

Oh...but I don't think so. I am in my game, they joined me. I did nothing wrong. Blizzard is powerless in this situation sorry. I broke no rules.

Its not 'your game'. You'd be in a public game where the expectation is co~op. Purposely kicking people that get matched with you will be considered harassment of players and very easily lead you to being banned. You can always try it and find out. ^-~ Be prepared to buy another copy of the game if you do it too much.

Oh, but I don't think so. See the game started as a private game. I then made the choice to turn it open for others to join ME. I don't have to play with anyone, if I don't want to play with you I don't have to. What will their case be? "He is a big meanie and didn't wanna play with me!". It will fail every time.

It won't fail every time. In fact people have been banned for doing the same thing in instances in WoW. As for making a private and opening it to the public. That doesn't work last I recall. The best you can do is open the game for your friends to join. Private games don't have matchmaking from what I understand. So your only method of griefing would be to either grief your friends.. or grief in public and get banned. Sorry.

Uh what? It worked just fine in beta. I make a team or make a private game. I hit what esc and said make game public. Very simple, people then flooded in instantly.
Are you ok? Your arguments and discussions are falling apart everywhere tonight. Maybe take a nap and try again tomorrow.

Hrm, too lazy to update my beta to try figure it out for myself...so I'll assume you're right. That said, you still ruin your own argument. Once you make the game public its a PUBLIC GAME and no longer your game. As such, griefing people is harassment and can get you banned. Grats...you've found a way to do the same thing in a different way.
So you start a game as a private game then make it public and then grief. Then your excuse would be. "Hey the game was private and I let some random join to grief by making it public..." Seriously is that supposed to be a counter argument to how grief in a public game will get you banned cause if it is it fails.

No it is pretty simple again really.
See in Diablo 2 I can make a game and name it what I want the game to be about. Now in D3 they removed that feature and now you have no idea what you are joining other then a quest. There are certain player types I might not want to play with, Blizzard can't force me to play with anyone, if I don't like you in my game I can kick you, that is why such a feature is there. How will I get in trouble for not wanting to play with certain people?

Because, if you don't want to play with certain people...you're expected to play private. Playing a public game means you're playing WITH THE PUBLIC. You're expected to complete the quest with other people. If you specifically harass people and kick them you will get reported and as such liable to be banned. Such is what it means to play with other players.

Hey you give me no ability to filter or give a sign for the people I want to play with. I am to do what I need to do, and that is kick undesirable people out of my game. I made no foul, and I definitely won't get in trouble. I guess you never ran a business or worked in retail.

You fail to realize that...you don't get that option. If you play a public game, you're giving up the option to filter who you play with. That is what it means to play a public game. If you want to filter who you play with, you're expected to make a private game and invite those that you enjoy playing with. Sure, kicking an occasional player that doesn't play well with you and your friends in a public game won't get you banned. However, going out of your way to repeatedly make public games with the sole purpose of kicking the people that join WILL get you banned.
While all this theorizing about griefing is entertaining at best, I don't really think this is the point of this thread. Unless suddenly became the new form of PvP...

it just might be. I mean who knows what year it will be before we get any real PvP.
Ecutruin: PvM fanboys can stay out of the PvP forums if you have nothing constructive or good to say. I just dont like you or your bad arguments. You're saying you have alot of D2 PvP experience but all you do is trashtalk about PvP and how bad this and that is and on and on. Something dsnt add up, you're either lying about your experience or you didnt enjoy it at all because you failed and turned to PvM because it's the easy way to go.
If PvP players like yourself stopped using insults with nearly every post, perhaps the rest of the community would be more receptive.
I did play Diablo 2 extensively, both PvM and PvP. I've also experienced PvP heavily in various other games. Diablo 2 probably had the worst PvP I've ever played in comparison. It wasn't balanced, there were no rules, no goal, and it generally devolved to a high level running around killing lower level players. Probably fun for that high level, not fun for the rest. Public Arena is a great option.
There is nothing insulting in his post. On the other hand, when you come to a PvP forum and say that competitive PvP community is "poisonous" I am actually surprised that your statement is false.
He was actually insulting. The same way that many people here insult other posters. He is calling me a Blizzard fanboy purely because I support Blizzard's viewpoints. It is used in a derogatory fashion as an insult.
As for the PvP forum comment, I don't believe I've ever stated that PvP was poisonous...I stated that the negative environment created by the majority of competitive PvP players was poisonous. I am interested in PvP, however, I want the casual environment that Blizzard stated they were creating.
So how exactly public arena that we know about right now will adress the issues you mentioned: no balance, no rules, no goals. I don't see how it does that. It actually create only additional problems, like restricting players to kill each other in only one specific way, no place for players creativity in creating their own rules for the fights. I don't see Blizzard support for PvP in public arenas that they mentioned they want.
Hrm.. public Arena will match you against people your level, your rough skill level, and your gear level. Seems quite a bit more 'fair' when compared to the earlier games in the series. It also allows Blizzard to create different types of game~modes to appeal to different players. Due to the fact that it enforces no ranking system and no complex PvP stats, it encourages a more casual gameplay as well that I feel is a positive effect on the overall community.
