As a matter of courtesy, try to use actual quotes when putting words in my mouth.
Try to read a little more closely, and feel free to look at much earlier posts. I've been saying that the game was delayed since '08 (don't know if was on this site then, maybe). The typical response from the deluded was ('09 at the latest). Three years later - and about five billion in wow revenue later - you think I was right? And I wouldn't say that deciding to market it as a WoW sub freebie hurts my argument in the slightest.
Try to direct your energy in a less flaming direction, phlayed, and answer my riddle about who that RTS designer was on the last page.
I do think you are wrong. You still cannot answer the question:
And speaking of not making sense - your comment on concept art (clearly signed by a guy still on the team) is more than a little bizarre.
Concept art is drawn in 2004.
They put that concept into the initial game in 2004.
That doesn't mean that it is locked into just that version of the game. So in 2005 Blizzard North goes down, Blizzard doesn't like what they see from the game itself. They scrap the original version of the game.
They start to develop a completely new and different version of the game in 2006.
They put the concept art into the new game in 2007.
That doesn't mean that new version of Diablo 3 started production in 2004. It means it started production in 2006/2007 and the old version of the game that had nothing to do with it besides a piece of artwork had already been scrapped.

Why develop Diablo 3 in the first place?
So you can keep WoW subscribers by slutting D3 out as a WoW promotion.
You guys are paranoid. it's an incentive to keep subscribers of WoW when D3 comes out, nothing else. It's not as bad as you think and you need to relax.
Proof that post count has nothing to do with smart posts - well done sir. Very few posts but still reasonable and non-speculative. +1
Proof that mods aren't necessarily worth a damn. Someone posts what is effectively a troll, and you off-handedly insult people who are having a well-considered discussion. Good game.
P.S. He's claiming he knows the precise and only reason Blizzard is doing this. That's non-speculative? Do you know what speculation means?

You got to admit... this is a bit of a fail on Sam's part.
"We don't care about money... its all for our fans."
I will agree, that is kind of a fail. I mean I'm sure and do believe to an extent that they genuinely enjoy satisfying their fans, maybe because it makes the fans happy, but ALSO because satisfied customers are returning customers. He should have just been up front. Of course, we're a company, we're going to do these things to make money, it's what keeps this business going and making games for the fans.
I just don't see why people see anything wrong in promotions like these. They seem pretty standard to me. What's wrong with Blizzard making money? LOL I wonder sometimes if people expect that this company can run without money...
There is absolutely nothing wrong with Blizzard wanting to make money. Its just the way they make it.
- Separating Starcraft 2 into 3 different games instead of 1
- Using the excuse of shady 3rd person websites for the RMAH (which btw I am a fan of) instead of plainly saying that they want to generate a consistent income from D3
- Using D3 as a means of making money on WoW and not admitting it.
Like you said, if Blizzard took an honest and clear approach to the way they say these things, there will be a lot less complaining. =)
People like you GENUINELY piss me off. And that ain't easy.
Blizzard did NOT SPLIT STARCRAFT TWO INTO THREE GAMES. It is STARCRAFT TWO and TWO EXPANSION SETS. Was Starcraft 1 split into 2 games? No! It was ONE game and then ONE expansion set. One game with approximately 27 missions of campaign content - who cares if they split it into 3 campaigns in stead of 1, I much prefered the WoL campaign to the original SC campaigns because there was a lot more story.
I'm sure when designing the RMAH the initial thought was 'how can we keep the economy in the game'. Probably sometime after that they decided that it would also be a good way to make money, but I doubt their first thought was 'how can we make money'. Monetizing games usually comes much later in the development process.
They aren't using D3 as a way to make money for WoW. They're using D3 as a way to ensure WoW subscribers continue subscribing while playing D3. It's a bonus. NOBODY is going to sign up for WoW just to get the annual pass(I think it's even an eligibility restriction actually), but for people who do play WoW who were considering quitting WoW for 3-4 months to play D3... this has stopped them from having to. Which is a win for Blizzard, definitely. But it's also a win for the player because it means that if he WANTS to he can still go back to WoW during those 3-4 months without paying extra. And also, it means that a lot of people who would've NEVER touched Diablo will now get to experience it. Another with for Blizzard.
At that point, we hadn’t figured out what game that engine would necessarily be for. We just knew it would be an isometric-ish game.
I just wanted to save Julian the embarrassment of posting that line - as if that team could have been working on an isometric game circa 2002/2003 that was going to be something other than a sequel to D2.

Julian Love in a 'con interview:
"...I’ve been working on the game for over 9 years."
Of course, I don't expect apologies - I'm used to the sound of silence - been hearing it for over 3 years as release dates slip.
