To be honest if they don't release a release date before the conference call that says to me that it is a long stretch away.
If they where anywhere close they would just make the distance between the release date announcement and the actual release of the game. I.E if they thought it take 2 months to get shipping and stuff worked out and they have another say 1 month putting things in the game then it would be logical to give a release 3 month from the release date.
All company's want to please their investors and them saying within the next X months your going to get a lot of money would do just that.
wrong. blizzard will not "guess how much time they need" to finish the game and give a date. they said over and over they will NOT announce a release date unless they are 100% sure the game is ready to ship.

You expect an 8 month beta? Um... no. It could be as early as mid-march and will be no later than May.
Think about it from this perspective. Blizzard will not want to release Diablo 3 anywhere near the release date for Mists of Pandaria. THe point of the annual pass was to keep people paying for WoW through the initial release of D3. They want people to have ample time to sink their teeth into D3 before MoP comes out so that the initial wave of spending all your gaming time on D3 peters out by the time MoP is released so that you are more willing to split your time between the two games rather than devote all your available time to D3 as most of us will do on release.
Give us a few months to play D3 before you release MoP. That's the most logical avenue. And they can't delay MoP very long because of how WoW works. They can't release MoP any later than June/July because by then the Cata content will have run its course completely. It follows therefore that D3 will be released a month or two (ideally more) before June/July/August.
Terrible. Ive played the beta full through, all characters with the king kill and can confirm that this game feels old. It actively feels like your playing a game from 2000, titan quest like. Theres nothing that makes you feel like they've improved on the game play, but mostly its the way the game looks, even with maxed graphics the animations are just not what you would expect from a game to be released in the year 2012.
We all know that these delays are adding fail to this game, but the saddest part is that this game is a fail right out of the box because its not, nor is anywhere near being a next gen quality title.
The sad truth is that this game should have been released in this state at the very least 12-24 months ago with an expansion pack coming out at this time. A year or two from now we should have been hearing stuff about Diablo 4 starting but instead we are going to be stuck with a last gen game package for the next 3-4 years before we even start to hear anything about Diablo 4.
Lets just hope that they get Diablo 4 right, cause Im dissapointed as hell with D3.

I don't understand this thinking. This game looks great, I too have played through the beta as every class and I find the graphics to be excellent. What's the focus on the graphics anyway? This game has an isometric top-down view and everything looks very polished. There is no need for huge polygon counts and insanely realistic graphics. The focus is on the gameplay and the gameplay is fantastically satisfying. If your only complaint is graphics then you should just go play MW3 or Battlefield or some game like that with the graphics that you desire. Most of us are far more concerned with gameplay than how the game looks.
Why does the game have to be a "next-gen" style game to be successful? I have never been so addicted to a game from the first minute as I was with D3. And that is the most important thing in my opinion.
One thing that has been getting to me lately is that development is really slow.
The Skill/Rune system is what they are changing (They have a usuable system in game ready to go if they need to release they have said) this system since october-blizzcon (that we know of). Im not a developer nor do i believe i have knowledge of this fact but surely it does not take 3 months to develop such a system.
Realistically the backbone of the system doesnt change its just the USER INTEFACE with the system thats changing so 3 months does seem along time?
when they annonce it, it really must be so drasitcally different to what it is to justify all this time.
I don't think it's as much of a question of implementing the changes to the system as it is nailing down exactly how the mechanics of the system will play out. There is a lot to take into consideration as far as drop rates or other things like that. Perhaps the system has changed drastically - like turned into a sort of crafting system where you have to learn how to inscribe rune words onto stones, or a horadric cube-esque system. This would require a lot of overhaul as far as the UI and other things.

Its just as you said. More people flock to great looking games than games that looks old. (I keep making the compairison to Titan Quest. I dont see much graphical improvement in D3 to TQ, thats pathetic).
Would people flock to Battlefield if they never improved the graphics over that last generation?

You answered your own questions.
The difference is that Battlefield 3 is essentially the same game as Battlefield 2, with upgraded graphics. Blizzard did not reuse any of their assets from D2. The system is completely different, the engine, the graphics, everything. The graphics are not the focus, they may look out dated to you (whereas they look stylized to me) because the game was developed from scratch over a long period of time. This is why we have the quality that you see. The animations are smooth, all the skills are fully animated and look, feel, and are impeccably smooth.
You people need to go play some of the diablo clones out there that are just terrible when it comes to fluidity of gameplay (i.e. Mythos Global). There are so many little things behind the scenes that you don't see that are the result of countless hours of programming and system design. If you cannot appreciate the polish of combat in D3 then maybe you shouldn't bother wasting your time and money playing a game you've already decided is fail before even playing through the game.
It's only almost 11 at Blizz HQ, still plenty of time =D Personally I'm thinking if they are going to announce before the CC they are going to want to make a big production of it, and maybe they are using today to write up some web page stuff? I can't believe I'm letting myself get excited for this, but what the hell. Cmooooooon release!

Diablo 2 (or the genre) needed no work on the game play. The game play is the best and most addicting part of the game. The graphics are the part that always needed work.
How can anyone say the graphics are "impeccable, smooth and fully animated" when the Monk doesnt even use his staff to strike people?!? It just stays on his back the whole time while he throws punches. THIS IS GAME BREAKING IN MY IMMERSION. I just cant "get into it" when I see glaring mistakes on the graphical side like that. Its the year 2012 for god sake, let the monk swing the staff.

this isn't a "glaring mistake" it is a conscious decision by Blizzard based on reasonable financial repsonsibility not to include the Monk's weapon in his animations. In my opinion, the animations don't NEED to include the weapon. They appear powerful and satisfying enough without it. If something like this is "game breaking" fo ryou, I think you are hard pressed to find a game that you CAN play. Do you even play games at all? Despite the fact that the weapon is not included in the animations, they still look, feel, and are smooth, and fully animated. The fact that the weapon is not included does not make them not animated. Just not animated the way you demand them to be.
Also, the gameplay in Diablo 2 was far from perfect. For you to say that shows how delusional you are.
Well if something as small as one class not including his weapon in his otherwise fully fleshed out and fantastic looking attack animations is "game breaking" for you, I can't imagine a game that you wouldn't hate.
Is Blizzard supposed to design another entire set of attack animations for every Monk ability just in case you happen to not be using Knuckles on your Monk? That's a complete waste of time and money better spent on other areas of the game. To think that they should do this is just naive.

I have to agree, that's pretty much what happened. Up until last year the monk was only going to use fist and diabos. The recent change to let them use swords / maces / axes meant they had no animations set up for those. It's something I'm sure they will change, but there's just no reason to delay release because of it.

Sometimes you don't always know where you stand... until you know that you won't run away.
if you want a "next gen" looking game you should not buy blizzard games they will always look old but they will serve you with hundreds of hours of fun. i still play D2 and it does not look better than D3
this^.
blizzard NEVER tries to release super graphic intesive games. they focus the majority of their time on GAMEPLAY. which is what actually counts. people want superior gameplay, not graphics.
