There are several Diablo references in WoW, like a weapon called "Wirt's Third Leg" the Mini-Diablo pet, "Cow King's Hide" and Tyrael pet. What WoW items and references would you like to see in Diablo 3, mood and tone appropriate of course.
I'll start. I'd love to see the following weapons :
"Arcanite Reaper"
"Gorehowl"
None.
Why? Because WoW was inspired by Diablo (being their trademark RPG), not the other way around.
What lore would explain the existence of such items? Thrall suddenly walking into Harrogath out of nowhere and dropping his hammer?
It just doesn't make any sense. The Diablo inspired items that exist in WoW are purely there for fun and as easter eggs, same goes for the pets. They are bragging rights and things Blizzard create to make more money.
I do agree with you, i would hate to see anything wow related in D3, but that same argument can be used for WoW, i mean, what lore can explain wirts third leg being in WoW?
Any items that eventually make it into D3 would be there just for fun/easter eggs aswell. And since Blizzard is also aiming for wow crowd, i'd say theres a fair chance some items make it into the game.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
Wonder how many people would even notice Easter eggs from games they haven't played??? Or are we really that pissed off about other blizzard titles.... ?
Not many... and people are just afraid of what they don't understand. They don't understand that references to wow won't make it wow... which is really silly.
I just think that this game is supposed to be, you know, immersive. Every reference piece will remind people that they are, in fact, playing a video game, and are not immersed in the world of Sanctuary. In a game that gives you dance commands or gives you a quest where you sit there and be the guy who hands out quests, sure, some giggly moments and tributes are pretty much ensured. But this is Diablo. It's not that I don't want this game to "become WoW," since that will never happen; it's that I want this game to be Diablo, and I have always appreciated Diablo for being an unswayable fortress of a video game. The only thing that Diablo borrows from other games is purely mechanical, and the only jokes it allows into itself are jokes about itself (such as the cow level.)
Long story short: when I'm playing the game, I don't ever want there to be a moment when I'm reminded that I'm playing a game.
Man I hope people don't share your thoughts concerning gaming philosophy every time they log into an fps and actually believe they're blowing people away. That's messed up. I personally have always seen games as a way to wind down and relax, a form of entertainment not an alternate reality where I have a separate existence.
I wanna see a two handed sword with frost damage and runes engraved on it called Chillsorrow.
Hmmm that's a good one. I like the sound of Frozenregret as well.
*Stabs a cultist* Cultist: "Why didn't I go to college?!"
And, instead of a ram skull, let's put a cow skull. Perfect.

I simply mean from a lore and storytelling standpoint, as with books and movies and stuff. If I wanted to feel like I was massacring beasts with crazy skills, I would say "screw Diablo 3," pack some pyrotechnics into a backpack and wander into some good hunting grounds. Dat realism.
Really, though, it's called "breaking the fourth wall." You temporarily interact or show something to the audience, usually depicted as a character referencing the audience itself as if the audience was present with the actor or something unrelated to the present story that the audience would recognize, which is only acceptable (in my mind) in comedies and farces. I just think it needs to be minimal if not non-existent in a game like Diablo.
Nothing in any Diablo game should look like anything from a Warcraft game, ever. Diablo is a dark gothic style while Warcraft is a bright colors cartoon art style.
Of course there will be a very few select wow references. I doubt there will be more then two or three and most people who didn't play wow wont even notice them. I would like to see an arcanite something or something referencing a horde character. Maybe a finkle's weapon of some kind. Don't want anything usefull though and i am sure there won't be any good items drawing on wow lore.
It actually amazes me that quite a few posters not only would approve this, but consider it to be a good idea. I'd think most would go "YOU CAN STICK WoW UP YOUR...".
The main problem is that most of the people that are upset about even the idea of WoW references would never notice them in the first place, considering the major reason people complain is because it's hip and cool.
I guarantee you, if anybody picked up the item "Hammer of Doom" or "Frozen Regret" or anything else, they wouldn't realize it until somebody that does play WoW told them.
I understand where you're coming from, though it's unfortunate for some that after looking at the weapons it seems blizzard ripped out a page from wow when making weapon models for d3.
Personally I'm all about the big shoulder pads and unrealistically large (glowing) weapons to go along with my unrealistically powerful characters, but maybe that's just me.
If I had my way diablo would have an entirely different color scheme, music more similar to the previous titles and it would feel more similar to previous titles. But it's not and it doesn't. The siegebreaker looked like something straight out of warcraft, which to me was quite disappointing considering in the cave my first impression was this heinous looking beast with long claws/nails or something, when it instead looked more like a giant mutated orc with fist weapons.
So I all but gave up on that hope. Bellyaching and complaining about something that isn't going to happen isn't productive.

People had the same complaints for Diablo 2. Why does my character run? What happened to the skill teaching books? Etc, etc.
The problem is that games grow and evolve. Just like Diablo 2 was different from Diablo 1, Diablo 3 will be different from Diablo 2.

Smoke Screen
Obsidian Rune - Breathe Deep
Breathe Deep as in the Starcraft cheat that nets you 500 Vespene gas?
Breathe Deep, as in the thing people can do with their lungs?
Hmmm that's a good one. I like the sound of Frozenregret as well.

I realize i would have little to no use of them since i've decided to roll a Demon Hunter but still.. they look damn cool.
Is that a scroll in your toga, or are you just happy to see me?
Other than that none.
