thank god DPS doesn't matter at all in diablo, phew. lmao
This subject or one similar comes up every now and again, and I say the same thing every time:
This is not Diablo 2. If Blizzard is doing everything right this time, every class will be equally viable as endgame runners.
no offense, because your cool, but...your still wrong. lol. with the near infinite variables with builds it will NEVER be balanced. wow is constantly patched for balance and 500 patches later its STILL unbalanced. so there will always be builds that will trump the rest.

I mean, yeah there will be some degree of imbalance, and it will always be changing (because they're going to be spending a lot more attention on D3 than D2 post-ship), but overall, if they want the game to be fun for everyone they'll need each class to be powerful enough so that you can't just look at one class and go, yeah, that's the class you want for uber runs.
Jay Wilson did touch on this a bit, too. He mentioned that the game won't be totally balanced, but that it won't be so bad that you're character feels inferior.

well of course, i never said the other classes were gonna suck in inferno. just that the WD would be a bit easier to use then the rest, my theory based on the info we have so far about the game.

I see the logic in assuming Blizzard can not perfectly balance everything, so there will have to be superior builds. I can assure though, they will make sure there are no builds that stand out too much. It's one of the main reasons D2was so broken, and it surely something they've had in mind to stop all along the dev process.
They've stated many, many times how each class has movement skills now. This is for the soul purpose to help balance classes. In D2 the Sorc has tele, so every other class was forced to use Enigma. In D3 each class has a movement skill, and each movement skill will have a cooldown.
Anyway, another topic they've spoke of many a times is how they are putting a lot of effort into making as many viable classes as possible, be it Normal mode, or Endgame levels. Surely there will be some classes which just by the essence of the skills and passives will be more effective at certain things, but I highly doubt there will be and Hammerdin situations.
Don't tell proletaria that though
agreed, my point in all this was my opinion was the WD would be better, not ALOT better, just a bit better then the rest at farming and i gave my reasons, i know if any build really stood out it would be nerf'd. but assuming they do at least a decent job of balancing before the release, there hypothetically won't ever be a need to nerf any skill just because its a bit better.
Speaking only of Inferno grinding, I could see the Which Doctor being effective as a solo grinder if, and only if the AI is still as dumb as it is in Normal, Nightmare, and maybe Hell.
The topic of AI seems to be overlooked very often when discussing class effectiveness in PvE. At Blizzcon we saw some great examples of smart AI, which can scale up with each difficulty making smarter and smarter moves.
Assuming Inferno is intended to be truly difficult under any circumstance, what if the AI is smart enough not to just attack your pets, but instead goes straight for you some of the time? If this was the case, the smarter creatures would pose a huge problem for your meatshield WD build theory :P.

oh i didn't even think about that haha. but thats a very good point, but hey a little bit of meat shielding VS. the other classes that have none is still enough to offset the balance. i would spam nuke those monsters that went strait for me of course and then kill the others being distracted by my meat. (cough* thats what she said) shields and i would of course use a shield as a WD so i wouldn't insta die lol
I feel like most of the threat in Inferno will come in the form of ranged. So knowing what we know about the classes at this moment in time I would have to go with the wizard as a great defense against ranged is slow time. Slow time slowing down projectiles is important as well as being used to help your kiting ability of melee creatures.
I say the monk....seven sided strike spam + exploding palm. spam seven sided strike to wear em down plus i doubt they'd be able to hurt you much since you move faster than light then right b4 they die pur exploding palm on em so they go boom and do AOE dmg. Monk looks like a total bad ass to me.
WD looks like a wimp. idc if he is awesome at farming he looks like a cracked out hobo. If he isnt that intimadating to me i'm not takin him into the depths of hell to fight diablo.

ok if were talking about the lore and not their actual skills in the game. then id say the "hobo" who can summon hordes of zombies to explode, and fight for him and summon fire and acid is ALOT more badass then a holy rolling bald monk who wields a staff like a pansy and doesn't get laid.

either way i think my strat would work better than your WD theory.....monster AI increases ur pets doesnt
Barbarian gathers all creep aggro, tanks everything and finishes them all with mass AoE abilities. While moving insanely fast with any Berserker-type skill.

considering watching the gameplay videos the monk seems to kill the slowest and have the hardest time killing. i sincerely doubt that, lol. and i thought you can't even spam seven sided strike?
No one particular class is going to have the obvious upper hand over all the rest. So...
Every class will be powerful for endgame!
Actually...
Who's to say ANYONE is going to be powerful in the end game content? Maybe for D3 it will be a real challenge, where the power rating is based on who can stay alive the longest.
Barbarian gathers all creep aggro, tanks everything and finishes them all with mass AoE abilities. While moving insanely fast with any Berserker-type skill.
i would bet a lot of money that you will not be able to go "tank" anything in inferno for more then a few seconds, and if you got a lot of aggro you would insta die no matter what you are or your gear
If I had to pick one character regardless of skill, the barbarian. It can take more hits, so naturally it will be more forgiving to play if you are more durable.
That said I think at around the skill cap every class will be powerful in one way or another. If you can kite on a demon hunter I'm sure you'll be fine in most areas. Same goes for being able to properly crowd control, kite, and just be efficient with any other class.
I expect blizzard to balance this, if nothing else.
You can make arguments for any class being good, or bad.
Melee chars: "They'll be tanks" OR "Enemies will be tanks and kill you instantly"
Ranged chars: "Do damage from range and be safe" OR "Enemies move faster and will hunt you down"
I'm going to say the Wizard. Simply because with 6 active skills they can have all the different types of magic damage, and I doubt there will be a monster that's massively resistant against all of them (oh, and time shift will be powerful, I bet).
It's tough to make a glass cannon that's viable endgame, unless there's a way to make them untouchable, which means it's going to be better than anything.

I'm sorry, what do you know about tanking or how the barbarian tree will effect this concept? Oh wait nothing except speculation and opinions.

But then wouldn't that just leave the witch doctor's pets useless? Unless only the smarter bigger monsters, select few, would just go straight for the doc while the rest of the demon horde mostly stick on the pets who taunt them that is.
I'll be choosing Barb I feel with high armor and health pool, I could tank some hefty damage while dishing it out too. Have a shield in my bags in case things get rough swap it on for a few slashes then get right back to using my Big Ol' Mace to smash faces. And if things get pretty crazy just smash bodies to make an opening or just peter pan leap for safety. Just off the top of my head.
