i dont see how the scenarios you gave above have any impact on buying/selling accounts?people sell/buy mmo accounts all the time
Correct me if I'm wrong, but MMO accounts aren't tied to a specific CD Key that is tied to a specific B.net account. Further more, these accounts aren't tied to full priced games.
For example purposes, I go back to how I believe SC2 accounts work.
If I sell you my account, I can give you my log in and password. That probably works, but now how do I play? At least with SC2, I would need to buy the full game again in order to make a new account (because, at least at the moment, you get ONE account per SC2 CD key.
Unless I'm wrong, WoW accounts aren't limited to one account per CD key, and the only way to get said CD key (legally) is to purchase another full priced ($60) game. You just have to continue paying the monthly rate for each account. D3 is going to be (Hopefully) free to play online, but not to install the game.
Granted, if you just wanted a single player game this wouldn't be true...

It works like this a SC2 game is bound to one acc I sell you the acc you go on and DL the client for the Game from b.net then you play said game login with said account and walla i have sold the account.

Jay said that no gear would be bind on pickup except for quest items.
He also said that GEAR AT LEVEL 85 OR HIGHER is going to be bind on equip.
That was the point of my post. The OP said that in DnD (like wow's loot system) the high end stuff is bop.
Now just accept the fact you are wrong or I'll report you for trolling.
Because I'm not trolling, I'm preventing this thread taking a wrong turn because somebody does not now a certain something works. Again.
I don't know how someone can say there not trolling when they have to say a sarcastic remark to someone just because they post in a thread by trying to answer a question (90% of all your recent comments are either Troll remarks or flaming someone because you think you are smarter than them).
I don't have 1900 post counts but I do read quite a bit on here since before Blizzard even bought out Diablo3.com seems like you have a problem with everyone and If you hate everyone here so bad for asking questions in a Diablo community about Diablo why do you even stick around?
That's all I have to say and sorry to the OP for taking his thread off topic.
I think binding gear is a way to slow the economy down thats for sure but I don't think it hinders the economy or breaks it in any way. As long as it isn't BoP (bind on pickup) then you can still trade that item if you do not need it or are looking to get something else instead of using whatever you just found by means of trading.
There will be plenty of gold sinks. There are still unmentionables I'm sure that they have not told us about. They reassured us all many times that gold would be valuable. It is needed for crafting and potentially buying crafting materials from other players in which gold may also still hold some value if they make an auction house system based on gold as well.
I wouldn't worry too much about it to be honest. The team working on this game is a lot smarter and way more creative and way more technical//better technology to work with than the team that worked on diablo 2 had. There wont be any gigantic and obvious mistakes like there was with diablo 2. That game was made a long, long time ago. People tend to forget that. Things like gold sinks and such were completely overlooked in those days. I really wouldn't worry about it.
@ Ent1ty - So, the problem is not someone selling off the account to get rid of it. I was talking about people selling accounts to make money (as in, high volume). So, I sell you a CD key attached to the account. Now how do I get a second CD key to sell another account? Buy a second game?
@Daanland - you're right, it might be able to get CD key's for cheap. But that seems unlike that blizz will let people buy the game (which is what getting a B.Net capable CD key amounts to nowadays, what with the download game client stuff) for less than the full price of the game at the time.
And if you mean like how it's easy to get a D2 CD key online right now, for one, my guess is Blizzard is going to make it hard to spoof CD keys for online play. So we're back to the illegal means of getting new CD keys that I talked about one of the ways to circumvent what I am talking about.

You can't sell a CD key anymore. You can literally only sell the account. Put it this way, Once the CD key from the disc is entered into a b.net account you can no longer use that CD key from the disc on any other account. So in order to sell anything now you must sell the entire account with all of its games on it.

Alright then. That's fun.
But that seems to support my argument, as in order to actually make a business off of selling these things (which seems to be the majority of sellers, but I could be wrong), you need a ready supply of accounts. If you only get one account per game, then you need to buy a new game for each account, right? So unless there is a way around that issue, then no one will really be buying accounts, unless they "loan" accounts to special trainer sites that do the hard work for you.
And I very much doubt Blizz will make it possible to legally get new accounts for cheap.
No you can make multiple accounts then you just have to buy a new disc for each account you make so technically if a player played enough to become lvl 99 on all 5 classes in D3 he can sell the account but then he'd have to buy another game disc and make another account in order to play Diablo 3 again.

So...we're agreeing on what this whole buying/selling accounts issue was started for - that BoE won't cause mass buying/selling of accounts with high level items. Which is what Daanland predicted would happen.
Or, at very least, it won't reach the same level as it would in other games where you can have as many accounts as you want for free (D2), or as many as you want as long as you pay the monthly fee (WoW).
People still won't sell accounts because they got something good, because they have to get another cd key once they sell their old account. Even from an online seller that is probably going to be at least $50 for quite some time. So unless people just add the cost of a new cd key to the sales, not many people are going to be motivated to sell accounts.
i remember in 1.01 a guy traded his fararri for 7 soj :)bizarre what some people do it was actually noted in an online article, some florida guy!
First off, there are some cheap, busted ass ferrari's out there. Top Gear did a cheap car challenge with ferrari's and one of them bought one for something like $1500. Yes, a lot compared to the price of a game account, but less than what a ferrari might be worth.
Second, I guess if the price is high enough, this won't matter.
If someone is playing just to find these BoE items to sell, why would they equip it on a charcater. They can just sell the item without all of the complications of selling the account.

Exactly. Not sure what the other argument is about :starwars: ??? They never said there would be bind on pickup. As far as we know the only binding gear in the game is BoE. I Seriously.. SERIOUSLY doubt that anything in Diablo 3 will be BoP considering everyone can see their own drops.
honestly didnt read all the postes but i think what ive read about the current system is ok.
I didnt like breaking down my charecters in d2 anyways, depressing.
bop would suck cus then u couldent use d2jsp anymore but boe would be alright.
apparently only quest items are pob and only the top end godly stuff will be boe and even then you can
supposedly awitch between your account charecters.
at least their trying to stabalize the ladder economy without resseting which always sucks!

maby the matrix was made by the robots to make everyone think it was a retarted idea?
+ ever notice how the matrix kinda blends with the terminator to make one 6 part super movie!
I haven't read the entire thread, so I'm sorry if this was mentioned before, but here goes...
All this time people think about binding to a character, but why not bind certain items to an account? This would offer benefits for economic stability (certain items get filtered out, it could even be on pickup if for some reason they wouldn't want that item to end up in the economy at all). At the same time, it would have less drawbacks than binding to a char: you still have the freedom to test the item on your other chars. I can imagine, for example, that there are certain rings which could be useful for several classes.
Also, the discussion about account trading seems a bit beside the point. If certain people have a desire (and a budget) to buy stuff in the game to save time and effort for themselves, they will do so in whatever way possible, and there will be others finding a way to make a living out of that. For me it doesn't make a difference, as long as a person did the effort, not some kind of bot of course.
@ claytonsteele .. D2jsp .. You fail sir. Anyone hoping to use that for diablo 3 will be sourly disappointed.
@ bind on account .. I can see that being a decent idea but blizzard already stated that they wanted to keep trading a part of the game and they reassured us by saying there would be auction-house elements and trading elements in the game to prevent sites like D2jsp and item-selling sites //gold selling sites//. I mean those sites aren't needed if there is a good economy and a means of selling your items. There really wasn't any of that in D2.
I think BoE is better than bind on account. Makes you play the game longer and allows you to trade the item. I can see the benefits of Bind on account type items but if blizzard says their adding in trading/value options in the game itself then I don't see the point of bind on account.
BoE has the disadvantage that your character is kinda stuck with the item though. IF they decide to implement some form of binding (which I really hope they won't) maybe a mix between BoE and bind on account would be the best: whenever you decide to use one of the items they want to take out of the economy, you cannot trade it anymore to other players, but you can send it to your other chars. Kind of a trade block for high end second hand items. I sincerely hope they find a better way though, I hate the idea of any form of item binding..

I guess that would be better, an item that you can trade but if you use the item its bound to your account. I can see that being a decent idea but it still undermines the point of having a really strong character if you can just transfer things around. Imho I still think BoE on very high level items is better than anything thats been said so far.
But can you explain me what would be the added value of that?
Imagine the following scenario: my barb finds an awesome sword, so I decide to bind it on him. A bit later, however, I find this two handed axe which actually makes him even better. Obviously I want to use the axe, which will render the sword useless, while I might have another character sitting around who could use the sword... Wouldn't that just be extremely frustrating? It's nothing you can plan or foresee. I just don't see the advantage...

They stated that items that did bind were going to be in the 75+ zone or some number around there. If you did find something better than what you equipped that was BoE then it would have to be insanely good based on that information. There isn't an advantage, the advantaged would be upgrading your character to a new badass level from what it was already on.
