Essentially, you want us to have a public poll instead of something we do behind the scenes... Possibly. Maybe what we'll do is choose a few we really like and have a poll based on those, instead of all the entries.

Mmm, it will be better if you choose few first and make poll later . If the public poll is based on the reputation of the pic, I think there might be entries like this...which I really hope you wouldn't want for a logo...(6 rep btw)

Yeah, that's why I think selecting a polling group first would be best. It would certain keep the 'tard' logo's out of the competition.
The general public is stupid. (Not calling anybody here stupid, just saying in general.)
In addition, people are hardwired to follow the pack, as in Jimmy is winning, lets keep voting for Jimmy.
If you have a small group that are intelligent, that make the decision, I personally think it would be better.
Just my 2 cents.
So the majority of people within this community are stupid? Have a little more faith, sir. Sure you're going to encounter a handful amongst the collective whole, you'll find that within any community.
I presented this idea because as a community site, I think the community should have some sort of say in what happens with in it. And yes, I do understand that the owners are the one whom get the final say, but shouldn't the requests of its members be taken into consideration? We are having this conversation within the Site Suggestions and Questions thread after all, aren't we?
I'm a fan of keeping it within staff voting as much as possible. Ideally it'd be great to be able to get everyones opinion but this is a logo that will represent the site, and by default, the staff, it's a very important choice.

The majority of Human Kind is stupid. However, I was trying to say it in more kind terms. Homosapians are, in general, idiots. I'm not calling you, or anybody specifically, stupid, but yes, Homosapians are stupid.
As for faith, in humanity or in general, you are barking up the wrong tree, kid.
Besides, as Kolala said, that turns it into a popularity contest as well.
(I'm really trying not to insult anybody with this post. I'm just being blunt, in hopes that people understand what I am trying to say.)

lawl. Is that supposed to scare me?
Besides, as Kolala said, that turns it into a popularity contest as well.
Isn't that the point? Shouldn't the most popular consensus win?
No, I am not trying to scare anybody. I don't quite see why you think I am...
As for popularity, no, you misunderstand. People have shown over the dozen or so votes we have held that they vote for their buddies, and the most popular person on the forums gets their view, regardless of whether it's good or bad.
Edit: In addition, please either post the entire quote or only quote the section you are responding to. Thanks.
The problem with public opinion is that what the public thinks is a good idea might not be the best one from a technical standpoint. Everyone might be able to agree that a 1024x3469238764092738 wallpaper that's highly detailed and stylized looks really awesome and all vote on it, but it would be a terrible idea for a logo. Most people also do not have the discerning eye of a designer, or any designing experience. They can vote for something that looks l33t, but if we're forced to go with something that we know will not work, it will be bad for the website.
(Think of the vast majority of people voting for presidents. How many of them have any idea about the platforms of their candidates, understand the mechanics in the political machine, understand global politics and economics? Most vote for who everyone else is voting for or who, with a cursory glance, "seems" to coincide with their beliefs.)
Therefore, I think it would be best to not have a public opinion poll. I think the design contest is enough.
I think it could be an exhilarating fan experience.
Well, maybe not "exhilarating", but it would certainly help create some forum buzz and community involvement.

Yeah, this is what I was trying to suggest, more or less. I think it would be a great idea for the website.

I didn't realize this forum had it's own 'clicks'. My bad.
