So let's all admit it. Blizzcon was a dissapointment. We expected to see more of the game. Right? It's mid November and supposedely ROS comes out on March. That's four months, right? Does anyone else have the feeling that we are gonna get a semi-polished game? Again? To me it seems they needed an awful lot more time, even if we all can't wait. To me Blizzcon is a proof of their miscalculations about development time and final product deliverance.
Long story short: Diablo 3 has lots of great features:
Great graphics
Smooth gameplay
good mechanics
great monster affixes that are challenging at times
your loot is your own in multiplayer
kaboom effects
BUT. Recently i tried POE and though POE is not a great game, actually looks like diablo 1, which is bad in a way (old mechanics, mediocre graphics etc.) so it became more and more obvious as i continued playing POE that diablo 3 lacks DEPTH! Meaning:
You build your character (manually allocating talents and stats)
Skill tree offers great diversity and replayability
Items matter. Everything salvages into something that can be used for something! In D3 even if i salvage everything i still need gold to craft. ITS A HEADACHE!
Random maps. Just like that. No riftstone portals, no requirements, no buts, no ifs. Why do i have to be playing for an hour lets say IN ORDER to farm a nephalem rift? I just want to get in there.
Neither POE or Diablo 3 feels like a great game. Shame on blizzard though, because POE is free to play.
TL;DR: Looking forward to Heroes Of The Storm, not expecting anything more from Blizzard

The game is not coming out in March. And the recent developments just show that Blizzard is in fact... Blizzard. Super slow development, QA, internal testing, and re-iterating on stuff like crazy.
To me it seems like they don't want to repeat the mistake of rushing a release - their only rushed release ever, Diablo 3 - and are going back to their roots: changing every little detail so often that no stone remains unturned and the outcome blows everyone's mind.

A: Where did you get the march release date from? This is the first I've heard of that... RoS is still in closed Beta, unless the open beta starts... tomorrow, I don't see the release before april/may.
As for Maps Vs Rifts.
I don't think you'll be playing for an hour to get into a Rift. Rift stones have a chance to drop from every bounty, with increased chance of dropping from the "full" bounty clears (doing every bounty in an act, or clearing all the acts). Not to mention that just like in PoE with maps you can stockpile the Rift stones, so you could in theory get REALLY lucky, clear adventure mode and get 5+ rift stones, do one now and stick the other 4+ in your bank for later. Also don't forget that Maps in PoE need to be far more abundant because
A: from what I've seen, maps are much shorter than rifts, so you'll do less rifts, but they'll last longer.
and
B: Maps are basically the only PvE option at endgame, in D3 you have Adventure Mode as well.

I stand corrected. Im sorry for the misinformation guys. Is there a release date? It gives hope to think that blizzard "changing every little detail so often that no stone remains unturned and the outcome blows everyone's mind.". I really wish that they provide us with the quality we have been used to. Still, not preordering it. I will wait for a month since release, to evaluate feedback from players.
There are only lots and lots of estimates, and the only official word is 2014 (bottom of page). But we know that there will be a pre-expansion patch with Loot 2.0, probably a PTR for that, as well as RoS beta that might last a few months... and there's not even a hint on either of that starting soon. So to be honest, any RoS release date before Q3 2014 would be a huge surprise to me...
I was considering Bounties a separate feature, that exists inside Adventure mode but is not an integral part of that mode.
But in hindsight I think you're right.
Funny, I looked at it the exact opposite way to me Adventure mode almost seemed to exist for the purpose of facilitating Bounties, with a secondary benefit of allowing free farming.

I think one of the main appeals of adventure mode is the ability to kill stuff without any quest dialogue or cinematics slowing you down. Bounties are there mainly to give you quest-like objectives in case you get bored with aimless farming and/or want to go for the gold/xp bonuses.

^^^ yes sir. The dialogue is cumbersome and distracting, especially in HC mode. To make it worse, the story is presented just terribly.
They had a Bounty system in Guild Wars 1. It truly added something to the daily grind. It provides a focus other than just simply hunting loot and gaining XP.

Or if you want more... guaranteed... access to rifts, yes?
I love this adventure mode stuff honestly. It's like they looked at PoE, saw the good, saw the bad, and saw how they could make maps translate in a very enjoyable way to D3. I have a feeling that more often than not I'll be doing all the bounties in a game... just because that's how I play. Maybe add in the easily-accessible bosses too, and obviously any elite packs I bump into on the way.
For me, that sounds even better than what we have now (which itself is a step forward from D2). I'm glad to see the "farming experience" evolving over the years into something bigger and better without becoming too complex or distracting - at the end of the day we still want to be killing things, right?

Yes, that too, obviously. So, Adventure Mode is the main feature, with Bounties as a sub-feature of that mode to replace questing, and rifts as a sub-feature to add more randomness to the game. Remove either/both of those, and Adventure Mode by itself would still be a welcome improvement/addition.
I would like to draw comparisons to PoE. PoE has the long term incentive on the very simple premiss of that it's very action oriented. You don't go on optimal XP farming sessions - you level and try to beat the content in a progressively more challenging way that forces you to re-think your build. And that's A LOT more fun then what D3 has done so far. [snip]
Your post is interesting because everything that you describe that PoE has, Diablo 3 also has...unless you are playing a WW barb decked out in really great gear.
The difference is that in PoE it takes longer (or is impossible due to tuning) to get to the point where you cannot overpower the game.
Well with the new internal patch datamined leak, seems like we have a few new pros for the upcoming expansion:
even more balance changes
new item passives that promote build diversity
higher mps oriented towards loot even more (better than mindless xp farming)
only thing that worries me: even more gems. I cant even make a marquise without the help of the AH. How am i supposed to make even higher than marquise only self found?

Hopefully we'll see a re-balancing of gold costs across the board. There's no way they can maintain the current gold prices when people aren't feeding off the gold sold by botters in the RMAH.
Not just the RMAH and botting, but the gold players make from sales via the GAH. I would never have been able to operate my SC chars the way I did without proceeds from item "sales" in the GAH. Gem and crafting costs will have to be significantly reduced IMO...
On a similar note; I'd love to see a solid Death Penalty implemented. A gold cost and/or loss of XP.
Ever the beam of sunshine.
Then you've clearly not seen much of the Crusader :P, they are NOTHING like the Monk in either Lore or abilities.

RoS isn't available for pre-order (yet), anways
And bounties, don't forget bounties
