Magic Find Set Swapping Developer Blog Tomorrow
Tomorrow we will be seeing one of the first development blogs that Bashiok has posted about. The first one will be covering the issue of swapping gear right before a kill to benefit from higher magic find.
How do you feel about keeping an MF set to swap in just before a kill? Don't answer yet! We'll be asking you for your thoughts tomorrow. #D3(Source)
What I want to tell you is, please get our input before implementing something, please -- it's important at this point of the game hemoraging players.
We fully intend to! Our hope is to keep all the good stuff about it (extra MF) while cutting out all the bad stuff (losing storage, and the labor of swapping gear). I think there's at least a couple solutions we lay out that people will like. Check back tomorrow and let us know what you think.
To clarify the issue, gear swapping is the most efficient way to play. We don't have a problem with efficient ways to play the game, in fact that's much of what the game is about: playing as efficiently as possible to find better gear faster. The problem with gear swapping is that a pretty wide array of people don't particularly like doing it, and are asking us to find a solution because they feel forced to do it (and don't particularly enjoy it). True we could just say whatever and let it continue, but it seems like a situation where we can step in, present some solutions, and try to figure something out that makes everyone happy.
Don't try to force people in how they play the game. Otherwise we will all be forced to become gray blob, carbon copies of each other's builds and gear (as much as we can).
Having to do less to balance your damage and defenses with MF leads to less diversity, not more.

1.0.3 Demon Hunter Tips
RGDiablo3 has made a video for Demon Hunters in patch 1.0.3. He gives both a single player build (seen below) and a multiplayer build along with a few tricks he uses while playing a demon hunter.
We will be performing scheduled maintenance on Tuesday, July 3rd. Maintenance will begin at 5:00 AM PDT and conclude at approximately 11:00 AM PDT. During this time, servers and many web services will be unavailable.
The gold and real-money auction houses for both the Americas and Europe game regions are currently undergoing maintenance to address service-related issues. We don't have an ETA at this time for when maintenance will conclude, but we'll provide an update as soon as we have further details to share.
Who is Cryder?
Chris Ryder is a prop artist on the team. Everyone calls him Cryder. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Deleting Posts and The Weekend
That's just the way the forum works. We don't have the ability to edit it, it just always shows the author's name there. I agree it's misleading. That thread was absolutely moderated very heavily for off-topic comments.
Thanks for being honest there Bash. Now do you think y'all (CM's) could start communicating with the community more frequently and addressing the concerns of this game's (dwindling) player base? People were rightfully angry to see the first blue post in 3 days was dealing with some novel instead of addressing the multiple concerns the player base has, like the newly found elemental dmg increase for starters.
It was the weekend. Friday is a very busy day for us so we generally don't have time to make forum posts, and then it was the weekend.
The designers don't write the books and sculpt the toys. I understand to some degree that doesn't matter, there's a sense of wanting concern X addressed before you see us say anything else about anything, but we have a lot of parts moving at the same time. So even if you want us to do nothing but nerf Ghom, that's unlikely to be how things work out. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Diablo III: The Order
With the release of Diablo III many players may have missed the release of this book. We were able to grab an interview with the author as well as a quick review of the book which can be found here.
On behalf of our Creative Development team, we're very happy to present our latest novel, Diablo III: The Order, written by author Nate Kenyon. If you haven't gotten a copy, you can find a selection of purchase options listed below.
For those of you who have read the book, we'd really enjoy reading your responses. This exciting new novel covers quite a bit of backstory surrounding Deckard Cain and Leah so please feel free to discuss the lore and share your impressions with us.
gear swapping makes it pointless to have mf on gear. the point of it all is that you choose to use mf over something else. not that you get everything plus mf.
The pain of swapping is the trade off for being the most efficient. The alternative is wearing no MF and killing more mobs faster or sub-optimal gear with heavy MF and kill slower, yet with a greater rate of quality. Yes D2 had the Wep/Off-Hand switch button and im surprised it wasnt in this game. If they wanted to bring that back or extended it to full sets of gear, that would be great. Not everyone would use the second slots for MF, as im sure many would love to swap between a 2h and sword and board or a certain combo of gear to match the combo of affixes on a pack. But please dont overhaul the whole MF system or remove it from items and whatnot. IMHO
Yeah Number1337 is right. Even though you get more mf, you lose precious time when trying to kill mob with mf gear. I personally die a lot when i change my gear in last seconds.
But the rest of us are doing it right and switching to mf, killing the elite or boss quickly, then switching back in a matter of seconds.
And I find it stupid and ruins the flow of the game. I'm glad Blizz is going to do something about this..
I have about 100MF integrated into my DPS set. I only ever use about 3-4 stats per item so MF is simply a bonus. I imagine that's how Blizz imagined it with some items having up to 8 stats. You simply can't benefit from that much.
Not saying I don't hear everyone else's concern of course. Hopefully something good comes out of this. I doubt it'll affect me in any way though, still incorporating even more MF into my normal gear.
GEAR SWAPPING (TOGGLE ON/OFF) WITH COOLDOWN ON TOGGLE OFF
Add a Gear Swap system in, but with a cooldown system in place to prevent it being abused on trash clears etc.
Also have a toggle on and toggle off system for this gear swap, and make it such that the cooldown for the gear swap ONLY gets trigged when you "toggle off". Therefore, you can fast toggle on MF gear for the kill, then after the mobs die, you can "toggle off" the MF gear so you can continue clearing without any delay. Only after the switch back to normal gear do you trigger the cooldown.
This gear swapping system can not only just be for MF gear.
You could for instance have a tank setup on your "toggle on" set and a glass cannon set as your normal setup. If you think the champ pack is too strong for whatever reason, you can toggle onto your tank setup. With the cooldown in place, it will prevent people from abusing this for champion/boss spell casts, such that they will have to commit to switching back to their original setup for X amount of seconds (say 30sec to 1min < provided this is short enough to be off cooldown when you reach the next champ pack).
Honestly, every single time a company takes the route of listening to the players before changing anything it is at a detriment to the game. They are not listening to the players but the most vocal of the players that love to whine on the forums. Blizzard needs to kill the ability to switch gear mid fight. It simply should not exist. There is no point to having magic find gear if everyone is switching mid fight because everyone is benefiting from magic find.
the old outfitter mod that everyone loved so much in WOW was eventually added to the game. I'd like to see some of this type of functionality in D3. collect a set, assign an icon/button, drag to taskbar, one click to equip. For me, the worst part of the current swap technique is covering a big portion of my screen with my character/inventory window while a mob is still chasing me, and this would alleviate the pain.
I think what people may fail to realize is that if everyone does this swap to magic find with a decent magic find set it basically artifically inflates the drop rates for everyone. Now, the only real reason to do this is if something is wrong with the drop rates in general. IMO, Blizzard needs to just purge the game of all MF gear and up the drop rates about 100%. Problem solved.
Oh, there are so many things wrong with diablo 3 I dont know where to start. It is obvious to anyone that the need to switch gear midfight is bad design and should have never been allowed. But almost all things related to gear in Diabo 3 are wrong. For one, the fact that grey and white items even exist. The way item stats are generated is sooo bad (doing it completely random makes 99.99% of the drops not to make sense, like all crafters in Sanctuary's history were retards. If Blizzard wanted it random it should have been random from well thought combinations of stats so an item with Demon Hunter Elemental Arrow damage increase never to have 200 Strength on it and no Dexterity, or a rare DPS lvl 60 weapon never to have less than 500 dps on it. The latter way had made possible for all items to have some use or at least make sense). The fact that legendary items are quite bad while they have the lowest drop rate is also bad design. The fact that game requirements dont leave much room to play with stats, there are no real choices in picking stats, there is a clear order that if not followed means you are doing it wrong. The same thing is true for abilities as well. Does any of you who sees a DH not using smoke screen think otherwise than retard about him. That is blizzard's fault - bad design. And I dont even want to start with other things, like removing any challenge in game with repair costs, etc...
Basically when it comes to swapping gear, I don't do it, I just have some dps gear and some MF gear equipped and I roll with that. My MF is out of this world high but I do all right.
Every week people get butthurt about something new. Every week Blizzard tries to fix it. Every week this game continues to offer me no incentive to farm after beating Inferno.
