Well to even get close to the amount of regen you would need to sustain this build type you need to be around 45+ beacuse that is when you get access to most of the runes that make these builds possible. Before then affixes on weapons and runes lock you out of this build archetype. Once you hit max level there are various routs to take. Completely passive ways will work at max level with good gear but so will the active ways that involve Prep or Screen. I really feel it is all up to personal preference. If you are a fan of one type of generator as opposed to another totally use that.

For abilities without a cooldown, I estimate how often they're used, i.e. my estimate of Vault usage was once per 10 seconds.
Vault will be used in DH case every 6 sec on higher level as well as other abilities. In Wizard case it will be probably the same or closer to 8 sec. This can only go down for characters which main tactics will be to avoid monsters in melee range.
All IMO ofc
Since Inspire has been nerfed <TO THE GROUND!!!!!>, I think I'll be running a build like this, or this, with Scoundrel follower...
Just a thought. Did you ever think how fight with electrified elite will look for you like in inferno with this build. Just in case you forgot, you want suches to get hit as rarely as possible for as much dmg as you can and you don't even dare to use things like rapid fire on them. I remember when one guy said once he was playing HC with his 4 friends in D2 and he accidently fired strafe on electrified elite mob. His four melee friends died fast and horrible death almost instantly, lolololol.
Yes, like I said it's an estimate though; I think I made it 10 seconds because inbetween using Caltrops and whatever else you shouldn't need it too often - hopefully anyway
To be honest no, I hadn't though of electrified mobs really, I guess carrying some nice resistance and using walls etc. will do enough - failing that a nice Cluster Arrow /w Loaded for Bear would dispatch any electrified nasties pretty quick! I don't really intend to play that much multiplayer, I quite like bobbing about in single player! I imagine such mobs will be a problem for any class/build if they aren't careful - that story is funny though Poor guys!

You have no way to generate hatred or even disc! Personally, I never really liked marked for death. It seems like I could do just as much if not more dmg by not wasting a spell cast on it.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
I am sure the most useful skills around for DH will be multishoot and impale. Everything else will be just good to have if you really need it. Basic hatred gen skills like bolla shoot won't be needed with correct use of other skills from discipline but you may want to use them as some give you very nice fighting options, though you may have better use from discipline skills instead. But as this is all imo we should w8 and see. Thankfully D3 let us change skills on the fly and experiment to find what works and what we like.

Impale?!? It does mediocre dmg for a very high hatred cost. And I don;'t like multishot because it almost feels like blizzard is trying to force me to use it. Well ya know what blizzard, MIDDLE FINGER!!!

This kind of attitude won't move you closer to inferno little lady
In regards to impale it will be used to kill elites (especially ranged). It will be mostly hit and run as Impale has a nice single hit dmg. Also it will be super for electrified mobs at higher levels. Well, if it is not I will just switch to smth else. It will take me 15 sec
I think you focus way too much on electrified mobs - this isn't Diablo 2, there are plenty of mob affixes which can cause serious problems. Its been said that it'll be much more important to be well balanced and dynamic rather than good at a specific thing. That being said, Impale will be useful as you described - just don't overrate it!

In build I have in mind I will play DH which will use impale (with overpenetration), multishoot and rapid fire. I don't think it will be good in all occasions and I also believe that my configuration will change with my gear all the time. Changing skills to match your gear is imo what D3 is all about until you have gear to match the skills you like the most and want to use. Getting to this point though, will take a while, but at least till then we will have a lot of fun with skill changes (and not like in D2 were we have to prevail with skills set in stone till we get gear which synergize with them).
So summarizing it looks that our road to glory will be about adapting our skills to gear until gear adapt to skills we want to use the most.
And all this choosing of skills in the forums is probably a waste of time at least while we know very little about inferno and gear drops.
Man I take a break from the forums, D3 and quite a few other games/forums for a few weeks to focus on classes and everything goes to shit. I should be active again sometime soon.

Quick question: I was looking at the math on the first post and azure mentioned there is passive hatred regen of 4/sec and passive discipline regen of 1/sec, does anybody know if this is still the case or have a source for these numbers? I haven't seen passive regen numbers anywhere else but maybe I'm just not looking in the right places. Thanks

It was the case the last time I was on beta, but that was patch 14.

This was in game data for the passive regen without any other buffs or gear. Bear in mind I have been away since patch 12 so it may have changed. Like I said I need to make some updates seeing that some things between the Templar and DH abilities were tweaked and nerfed so give me a little time to fix the numbers and make the appropriate changes to update this post to patch 15. I will most likely be able to get work done on this tomorrow seeing I have the day off.

The build looks good. I personally don't like grenade. It can be a pain getting them to hit targets but when they do it pays off. Also I would like to add that the original intent of the thread was to go with no generators. Please try to post builds that pertain to the topic at hand in here and not things that do not follow the scheme.
Also i seem to be a really busy man as of late. Way too many things are all happening at once. I will have to hold off on updating the first post until the official launch of the game. I would like to make this into a good guide for any DH that is planning on playing this way, as I do plan to play one like this, and I hope that everyone can understand this.

Today I got two level 5 xbow off the vendor the beta with 0.5 Hatred/second.
I watched RedFlamingo's crafting video, and he made five Level 28 hand xbows, and a couple of them had +Hatred regen on them. One was only 0.37 Hatred/second, and the other was 0.62 Hatred per second.
This kind of tells me that these type of stats don't scale well. I am sure a higher one could have proc'd for Red Flamingo, but I would venture to guess the perfect would only be about 1 hatred/sec tops on that item. Which seems to indicate by 60 legendary we might only see 2, maybe 3, hatred per second on such a weapon.
First of all thanks a lot for this awesome topic and all the information, I'm certainly going to create such a Demon Hunter.
I've got a question, what exactly the difference between the normal prep and prep with focussed mind, it seems to me that 45disc over 15 seconds is worse then 100% instant disc?
//edit: and another question, does perfectionist work with runed prep? like 20 disc will be 20(-20%)?
You start off with only 30 discipline, so unruned prep yields a maximum of 30 discipline. Also, its far more likely that you are not at 0 discipline, thus the actual amount of discipline returned via unruned prep would be in mid 20's.
Focused mind prep yields 45 discipline over 15 seconds. This also eliminates any waste caused by not being at 0 discipline, as you can use this version of prep just about anytime and still be able to spend it quickly enough. The fact its not instant just means you have to plan out spending slightly better.
Essentially what you have is 45 > mid 20's.
Perfectionist should work with punishment, but there is always a chance it doesn't either due to design or a bug.
