I am pretty much at the same amount of ASP (1,3), crit chance and event bigger crit dmg (319)... would love to give a try melee wizz after nerf, so I am curious how much resist I need for act 3/4 farm.
Self-buffed, I have 1k resistances, 9k armor, 42k hp. However, in the interest of transparency, I should point out that while I can clear act 3/4 without dieing, I would rather farm act 2 with this build because it is much more efficient because I can bypass normal monsters and focus on just hunting elites. I need to up my DPS to farm act 3 efficiently.
As the OP has pointed out, there is a difference between being able to complete an act and being able to farm it effectively.
With such high crit, I guarantee you'll love critical mass if you use meteor, diamond skin, ice nova, force wave, spectral blade:deep cuts, and energy armor.
Edit: Forgot to mention current act. I have cleared all the way to inferno Diablo with this build. Haven't beat him yet.
Solus, I just started trying the wizard tank build and other than my terrible damage I am really enjoying it thus far.
I was wondering if you could link a SS of your gear? If that is too much trouble, maybe just your stat priority?
Also, if you don't mind, a link to your build would be super helpful! Trying to decide if I like having Venom Hydra or Wave of Force more atm. Thanks!
Wow, how did you have problems with Act 3 (Short of stupid Invul minion packs) with 42k dps / 62k hp / 1.7 APS. I run 40k HP, 30K DPS, 230% base MF all the time and still farm Act 3 with no deaths post 1.03. Killed Diablo before the patch, hell I could get alot more damage if I stopped using MF all the time, but why bother? MF is a money snowball stat, run it all the time or don't bother. Start quest at second sin heart > 5 stacks before Cydea > another 3-4 packs before Azmodan > Kill Azmodan and all done. 30-45 minute run.
Switching before a kill is majorly pointless, because you are missing out on chances to find better items on the 10 million mobs before those elites. All of my legendaries/set items have all been found from normal mobs with the exception of a few legendary plans off Azmodan.
As for it gets better? It was never bad, Inferno has never been hard for the Wizard, period. It like people don't realize they are a Wizard and think they are a Barb or Monk and think they are supposed to sit there and take hits... The only thing that has made farming act 3 and act 4 shit right now is the lower drop rate and the repair costs for wear and tear which makes farming Act 1 actually way more viable for profit:time.
with no NV 46
with 5 stacks, 46 + 75 = 131
with a hot gear swap before a kill = 313
do you swap manually?
thanks for your answers and op
Yep, just a quick swap before taking down a boss or final elite. YOu just gotta be careful with hydra, it tends to kill things before you get a chance to swap, but you figure it out, I typically cast hydra into some random bit of the map and run the opposite way, 90% of the time that will work, 10% the elite will run into hydra just to troll you

Point 1, I'm in Aus, and I lag hard, coupled with hit detection I find keeping my HP up to be very very difficult, much of the time I rubberband everywhere taking hits, and as stated my DPS was all APS, so it did not hit very hard at all. Anyway how can you question personal experience, you can call me a shit gamer, I don't mind, but I definitely found Act III farming post nerf to be a huge chore with my build until i got the dps back up.
Point 2. Starting to agree with you, it's a solid fact that MF switching before an elite kill is not as good as perm MF gearing. BUT, it's better then perm NO MF gearing. If you hot swap before killing elites you will get better gear (for now), if you can farm in MF you will get even better gear, but not viable strat for everyone IMO.
I'm currently switching out bits of gear to MF at the cost of vit mostly. Trying not to sac intel.
Currently: 82k dps / 51k hp / 1.49 APS / 39 MF / 450 resists / 5.1k armor - Act III is mostly a cakewalk (inv sucks) with those stats so I figure I can swap some gear for MF as I find/craft it. Because not only will you lose NV stacks now for hot swapping MF gear, I think you really need to be in MF all the time when farming. You just need a good balance of Power to MF.

pretty much this tbh, i still can do these runs in like 15-20 mins tops... but act 1 is much better cause you can just skip everything.
38kish hp with 200rall(from int) and like 80k dps, spec for teleport/illusionist and just let shit hit you to move faster.... skip straight to elite packs and melt the shit out of them, rinse and repeat can get like 100+ elite packs an hour this way~
edit, i actually have 93217.3 dps with weapon/flint, so meh
oh and for the guy asking about reflects, just buy some shit like 400 dps weapon that has like 1000 life on hit and a socket, swap to that for the kill... think the shit heal wand i have is like 900 loh/500 loh gem in socket it also has like 2.7 lifesteal, that will pretty much lower your dps enough so you won't kill yourself.. and you can heal up.

I live in Australia too, QLD to be precise. I know your pain about latency, Azmodan and Diablo were a mighty big pain when I was pushing to finish the game. In fact I found it actually harder to dodge stuff with a higher attack speed because of latency it's why I opted for Hydra/Blizzard/Arcane Orb with a .90 2h weapon so I can stutter step kite for days with big arcane orb hits with 20% move speed.
Either way, no matter your spec. Once you get teleporting, invulnerable minion fast, jailer Phase beasts you just quit the game and hope for the best in the next.
all those pointless guides with 40-60k dps. of course you can fucking farm act2-3, you can do it with 20k dps. learn to fucking play, all of you. the only reason you could cry about inferno is because its too easy,
a.. ah... AHH... AHHH DOUCHE!
damn cold.
Anyway, I sit at 27k dps and 22k hp, so act 3 is still a challenge for me
Still no loots in act 1 after the patch, maybe will try farming in act 3 after they fix the loot rate.

While this is quite harshly said, I have to agree. A "guide" for farming with 60k dps is ridiculous to me. With this kind of damage my grandma can farm all the acts with a landmower.
What do you learn from this guide? "Be lucky and get a 900 dps weapon with a socket"? And 40k hp? With a ranged build? What for? Drop down to 25k or less, with reasonable resistance (400) nothing will kill you and FA will absorb properly. Add high regen to that and you recover from any hit almost instantly.
It was a challenge to finish Inferno in May. It was a challenge to efficiently farm act 3 or 4 before 1.03. That needed some planning and a lot of dedication. That's when we wrote and read guides that actually made sense.
rofl, yeah I agree, then some guys come up with some "best farming build" with 80k DPS he could be prolly using normal attack to kill shit with 80Kdps. rofl... and still keep saying hey get more vita shit yeah thats good like they dont even know how to use force armor, and still keep skipping some "hard affix combos" while if they lowered the hp but had high life regeneration/resists/armor you would just faceroll anything no matter what ur dps, never skip a pack again... and diamond skin would be tanking 3-4 hits for you which if u had critical mass with critical gear ud be spamming it quite often(dont even need but just for the lulz).... not even mentioning lower repair costs but whatever...
People complain as Wizards? All I hear is how overpowered they are. I thought slow 2H was the way to go also. I know there were some IAS builds but your class doesn't absolutely depend on it from what I hear.
Anyway, I don't mean to come in here and be rude, I just think it's funny how players always think their own class sucks and all the others are over powered, lol!
+1'd everyone here, who also think that "I had 40/60 and had problems, so I've decided to make a guide how it gets better with 60/50" is kinda dumb. I love you guys.

I don't think that the guy that started this thread speaks for the whole class.
