WARNING : this version is ment for high greater rifts, this build is not as efficient at easy content like torment 6, for an extremely efficient T6 whirlwind spec, check out http://www.diablofans.com/builds/53881-t6-speedfarm-whirlwind-ik-bk
The items for this build are relatively set in stone, except for 1 ring, amulet, and bracers.
You need Immortal king Weapon and Belt, and you need The wastes set Shoulders.
Between gloves/helm/chest/legs/boots, you need 1 IK piece and 4 waste pieces.
One ring has to be the ring of royal grandeur and I definitely recommend unity for the second ring, although stone of jordan or convention of elements is a decent choice if you prefer some more damage, or if you're running in a party.
The best amulet is either a hellfire maulet or an immunity amulet, no other amulets really have useful legendary effects for the build.
The best bracer is either one of the bracers that roll attack speed, or reaper's wraps to keep up max fury easier.
Take physical damage % on bracers, and possibly on the amulet ( Physical - crit chance - crit damage - socket ), although physical or strength being better on the neck is debatable, exspecially if the necklace is ancient. Physical damage % will give you more damage than strength, but strength is also giving you a lot of toughness in the form of armour.
Life and vitality rolls are pretty good as our healing from the whirlwind rune is based on life %, and we have room for a life gem in the helmet since we don't need CDR at all, making us able to get a pretty high amount of life.
The 3 best legendary gems are Baned of the trapped, Taeguk and Pain enhancer, For damage I can't imagine any other combination being stronger damage wise, although a very high rank Esoteric Alteration could be a swap for the bane of the trapped gem if you want to become even more tanky.
If you want to go really advanced, here's the whirlwind breakpoints : http://i.imgur.com/3BmaOqd.png
What this means is , to give a random example. Having 2.25 Attacks per second is exactly the same for whirlwind as having 2.40 attacks per second, as they're in the same breakpoint range. At those points you can either drop some attack speed without losing aything, or get some more to hit the next breakpoint.
The reason why the breakpoint thing is hard to balance for this build is because of pain enhancer, what some people like to do is to balance the breakpoints around havingg one stack of pain enhancer, so they're balanced for the rift guardian.

Build Guide
After testing multiple whirlwind versions I believe this is currently the strongest whirlwind build in the game
The build is godlike at clearing trash mobs and is pretty slow at rift guardians, getting to really high Greater rift records is going to require some praying to RNGesus, certain rift guardians will go much slower than others. I can consistently clear GR47's without Requiring RNG, using a very bad gearset. With close to best in slot gear this build will be able to consistently clear GR50 and With great pylons, rift Guardian, and mob type/density, I fully expect somebody to push 56-57 with this build.
The gameplay is honestly pretty damn simple, you keep whirlwinding to keep up your taeguk gem and your 40% damage reduction from the wastes set, generally you never drop whirlwind during an entire rift, except for long dead ends.
Whenever you're in the middle of a pack, drop a rend, this has two reasons, it's a nice extra damage source as it's greatly amplified by the 2 set wastes bonus, and it also counts as a fury spending attack, which triggers the immortal king 4 set bonus and reduces the berserker/ancients cooldown by 3 seconds for every 10 fury spent. Using only whirlwind will NOT spend enough fury to keep berserker up constantly, you have to rend to keep it up, so sometimes it's worth it to rend targets that are already bleeding, just to spend some more fury to lower your cooldowns, You'll eventually get used to this and find a balanced amount of rending to keep up Your super saiyan mode while not dropping too much in fury. Having 800 paragon for some free cooldown reduction in paragon also helps a bit, but I don't recommend ever dropping the life% gem in the helm or crit/attack speed to get CDR.
Battle rage only once every 120 seconds, battle rage is not an attack so it will not trigger your IK 4 set, you only use it for the buff.
Use warcry whenever the buff is about to fall off or whenever you're falling below max fury. Warcry is not an entirely mandatory skill for this build though, some people prefer running sprint or Overpower - killing spree.
Ancients are cast once, and only need to be recast when they die.
Wrath of the berserker should be kept up at all time, never let it fall off.
I will try this when i get the WW set items. Sounds interesting.
i
I run a very similar build, and I really do think something close to this is going to be the way to go. I have managed to clear only a 50 solo so far, but to be honest I haven't tried to go any higher. The 50 was my first try at it and was a very mediocre rift at best. The main difference between your build in mine is that I do not run unity. I instead run WoTB: Striding Giant with a decent rolled convention of elements. With the Physical prob up I have seen over 800 mil dust devils.
its a copy of Jurasikll build?
Question where is Bane of the Trapped supposed to kick in? Maybe I'm missing it but I don't see any skills that are triggering it? Unless you're meaning that it's required to be a level 25 gem to get the buff?
Bingo.
thanks man will try this asap
Great build! But was wondering what is more valuable as far as stats go on rings/gloves/amulets? CHD, CHC, or IAS? Say I have a ring with strength, IAS, and CHC, should I drop one of the stats to put on CHD?
would the rune mutilate for rend be any good with this build?
How do you feel about 2 piece immortal king's and the Bul'Kathos weapons? Would that work or is the 4p bonus from IK too valuable? Also, what about the Skull Grasp ring?
Shitty deal, I felt like that could have been an okay alternative. What about skull grasp > unity? Also note I probably won't push higher than 40 due to the fact I don't invest enough time into the game.
Very nice build and guide. Very articulate and informative. I have a few questions please.
I've tried this build with the same items as listed as well as skills and passives. I managed to complete a 45 grift in normal. My issue seems to stem from my fury, or lack of it. I run out just going from pack to pack. I'm using Reaper's wraps. I'm considering something other than Berserker Rage since I'm not near full most of the time.
What would you suggest?
Also, is Battle Rage Bloodshed still the popular choice despite the fix? (it was double dipping before). I've seen Into the Fray tossed around as well. What are your thoughts on this rune?
If you have any questions about my gear or build please don't hesitate to ask.
Few issues I seem to be having;
1. My Fury seems to diminish too quickly resulting in my Gem stacks falling off between groups.
2. When I stop Whirl-winding to use my Rend (to make sure my Wrath of the Berserker comes off Cool-down) the mobs absolutely destroy me.
3. For some reason I feel like I'm very squishy, even though I have comparable or better gear than what was in your video.
The only thing i have changed with your build is i run a different shout to increase health globe drop chance with reapers wraps, as i find that even with ancients up i can run out of fury or more so at the start of a fight i dont have enough fury and can leave you in a danger zone with some packs.
At least at GR42 I had the pleasure of spawning Orlash as the rift guardian. His breath instantly fries CotA dead, so unless the brief amount they lived you were able to fully reset CotA cooldown, he seems to be a pretty hard counter to this build. If anyone has any ideas that'd be great, because it was my experience that Orlash obliterates your ability to have fury outside of a brief 20 fury from your War Cry.
Am I the only one who takes masssive (near lethal) damage if I stop Whirl-winding to use Rend on big packs?
Feel like i need a Unity for anything above 48, get instagibbed by about all bosses and elites even tho im at about 70+million toughness when spinning frustrated!!
edit: maybe not all elites, but i do feel squishy even tho ive never had this much toughness ever in D3
btw: Is Raiziel just not doable in this build at high grift? can hardly hit her with all the lightning :/
when you get to GR50s, is it easy to get one hit by RG since you constantly have to ww close to him?
Good day quick advice i trying this build and is pretty damn nice but in solo t6 rifts have trouble with max fury for passive 25% dmg any advice how i can do it ? Or just need going public/party or GR ty for advice .
Thanks for sharing this build.
I highly recommend it.
Was able to clear this rift with a second remaining:
- GR52
- mobs were high hp types, giants, or armored
- majority of elites had shielding affix
- no pylon except for a shield pylon midway through the rift
- Blighter was the RG
