WARNING : this version is ment for high greater rifts, this build is not as efficient at easy content like torment 6, for an extremely efficient T6 whirlwind spec, check out http://www.diablofans.com/builds/53881-t6-speedfarm-whirlwind-ik-bk
The items for this build are relatively set in stone, except for 1 ring, amulet, and bracers.
You need Immortal king Weapon and Belt, and you need The wastes set Shoulders.
Between gloves/helm/chest/legs/boots, you need 1 IK piece and 4 waste pieces.
One ring has to be the ring of royal grandeur and I definitely recommend unity for the second ring, although stone of jordan or convention of elements is a decent choice if you prefer some more damage, or if you're running in a party.
The best amulet is either a hellfire maulet or an immunity amulet, no other amulets really have useful legendary effects for the build.
The best bracer is either one of the bracers that roll attack speed, or reaper's wraps to keep up max fury easier.
Take physical damage % on bracers, and possibly on the amulet ( Physical - crit chance - crit damage - socket ), although physical or strength being better on the neck is debatable, exspecially if the necklace is ancient. Physical damage % will give you more damage than strength, but strength is also giving you a lot of toughness in the form of armour.
Life and vitality rolls are pretty good as our healing from the whirlwind rune is based on life %, and we have room for a life gem in the helmet since we don't need CDR at all, making us able to get a pretty high amount of life.
The 3 best legendary gems are Baned of the trapped, Taeguk and Pain enhancer, For damage I can't imagine any other combination being stronger damage wise, although a very high rank Esoteric Alteration could be a swap for the bane of the trapped gem if you want to become even more tanky.
If you want to go really advanced, here's the whirlwind breakpoints : http://i.imgur.com/3BmaOqd.png
What this means is , to give a random example. Having 2.25 Attacks per second is exactly the same for whirlwind as having 2.40 attacks per second, as they're in the same breakpoint range. At those points you can either drop some attack speed without losing aything, or get some more to hit the next breakpoint.
The reason why the breakpoint thing is hard to balance for this build is because of pain enhancer, what some people like to do is to balance the breakpoints around havingg one stack of pain enhancer, so they're balanced for the rift guardian.

Build Guide
After testing multiple whirlwind versions I believe this is currently the strongest whirlwind build in the game
The build is godlike at clearing trash mobs and is pretty slow at rift guardians, getting to really high Greater rift records is going to require some praying to RNGesus, certain rift guardians will go much slower than others. I can consistently clear GR47's without Requiring RNG, using a very bad gearset. With close to best in slot gear this build will be able to consistently clear GR50 and With great pylons, rift Guardian, and mob type/density, I fully expect somebody to push 56-57 with this build.
The gameplay is honestly pretty damn simple, you keep whirlwinding to keep up your taeguk gem and your 40% damage reduction from the wastes set, generally you never drop whirlwind during an entire rift, except for long dead ends.
Whenever you're in the middle of a pack, drop a rend, this has two reasons, it's a nice extra damage source as it's greatly amplified by the 2 set wastes bonus, and it also counts as a fury spending attack, which triggers the immortal king 4 set bonus and reduces the berserker/ancients cooldown by 3 seconds for every 10 fury spent. Using only whirlwind will NOT spend enough fury to keep berserker up constantly, you have to rend to keep it up, so sometimes it's worth it to rend targets that are already bleeding, just to spend some more fury to lower your cooldowns, You'll eventually get used to this and find a balanced amount of rending to keep up Your super saiyan mode while not dropping too much in fury. Having 800 paragon for some free cooldown reduction in paragon also helps a bit, but I don't recommend ever dropping the life% gem in the helm or crit/attack speed to get CDR.
Battle rage only once every 120 seconds, battle rage is not an attack so it will not trigger your IK 4 set, you only use it for the buff.
Use warcry whenever the buff is about to fall off or whenever you're falling below max fury. Warcry is not an entirely mandatory skill for this build though, some people prefer running sprint or Overpower - killing spree.
Ancients are cast once, and only need to be recast when they die.
Wrath of the berserker should be kept up at all time, never let it fall off.
Blood funnel equates to a lot of healing. Dont get me wrong, there is a lot of combos that will simply wreck you that high. RNG gods of rift makeups demand your tribute.
But yes. Just unity and 4 set should be enough.
Passives im running when I push as essentialy the same as the guide, though sometimes I will drop ruthless for superstition.
I also find Overpower - Killing Spree is useful for the extra crit. 8% crit is huge, and given how much crit you already have, you are looking at 100% uptime.
Battle Rage - Swords to Ploughshares, while you lose some dps will help keep your ass alive and keep your fury up with reapers as well.
Never, I REPEAT NEVER, run call of the ancients without ancients fury. As your primary fury generator, is it sort of needed to keep whirlwinding, and if you aren't whirlwinding, you lose your 40%.
more or less agree with everything here. I really dont like swords to ploughshares, but thats just me. It's exciting though right? so much new, so much unlearned. I look forward to each day on the forums with all the suggestions. Power cap hasnt even been reached yet.
can you guys tell me what I am doing wrong. My gems are all 51 and I have mostly ancients, but I can't get passed 48 for some reason plz help.I know on my shoulders I need life instead of cdr but I dont think that option was available.
PS: I wear my unity instead of my CoE

Fire please help me mate
I can't still pass 47+ and yesterday i couldn't pass 46 with better items equipped. Idk really what's wrong!
Can you please comment my gear for the last time. I rolled gloves as u said and got finally ancient gloves,i changed my old amulet with mara (i lost a lot of crit dmg and crit chance but for the healing i did it) but nothing changed!
Its really annoying all my gems are 51! and still cant do 46+ 47.
Is it a must to have Enchanting Relic?
Thanks by advance
ps: my old amulet was Ess of johan with 10 crit chance 99 crit dmg.

M8 can i have also your comment about my gear
Thanks by advance.

Same applies to your gear as I posted for the guy before. Besides:
- Amulett: try to get CD / CC + STR / Physical + Socket. Hellfire would be BiS, but Xpherian or Even Vaxo is an other choice.
- RoG: You're missing CC / CD here
- Boots: I'd reroll Runspeed instead of WW
- Why are you using Unity and your follower doesn't?
CC is important because every crit is healing you für 1% of your life and boosing your Damage for rend. If you're around 45% you should be fine.
- Templar: Use STR Gem in the thunderfury. Followers are capped at 150% CD, there's no need to stack CD above 150%. Also use Wyrdward Ring on your follower to stun enemies. Unity is a must. Johannas Essence as Necklace works great also. It pulls enemies to you, so you can use rend more efficiently.
With some modifications you should be fine until 50 also.
Thanks m8 for your comment. So i need first start to re farm Rog to get a better one with cc and cd.
-Boots: Its my third change,i changed 3 times from ww to mov speed and then 1 more time ww So its nice to hear that i need mov speed instead of ww dmg.
- I have another unity and tried on my follower but i don't have the relic that's why when he dies I'm dying too because of the divided damage I presumed that the divided damage from unity is a good option but i didn't dwell upon and changed it.
So to be conclude all my problem is coming from my follower,as i understand the setup of the Templar is also another obligation.
Thanks one more time.
ps:sorry for my english.
damn you guys lol which one should I go with I have ancient of Eun-Juan-Do (which is awesome if its on rift boss, because once hes at 19% he's basically perma froze) and I also have an ancient thunderfury and I got a wyrdward last night, so which one do you think I should do?
I was running this that's why I had azurewrath sword

please, stop.
Do not roll runspeed on your boots. WW damage increases your tornado damage, which is your primary source of damage. I personally run it on boots on helm. you can spec run speed from paragon for a minor Strength hit. People really need to break the habit of boots must have rune speed. they don't, hopefully you didn't reroll them yet. RIP your gold lol
You want str vit all res life% on soulders, yours are perfect, rends damage is shit, and+% of shit is still shit. its purely used as cd reduction for wrath, that happens to do a little bit of damage. your gear honeslty looks pretty good. still need a better amy, but that will happen with time, just keep farming. id try and find another chest, the +revenge damage obviously doesn't do very much for you. (nothing to be exact) now, for the follower.
you do need the follower cant die relic to take advantage of unity, its huge. that plus WW is all the damage reduction you really need atm, maybe esoteric at higher grifts (53+) now if you dont have the relic yet, thats fine, I didnt start using mine till 50+ just have to be VERY careful, and very smart. You'll probably want to use a different ring in the mean time, either SoJ or CoE would be best, that'll help boost your damage a little bit more just starting with that. As for the weapon, Eun-Jang-Do is pretty good, and has saved my butt more times than I can count. reroll the weapon damage to lightning, use wyrdward, and you have some pretty decent single target CC, helps a ton on rift guardians. also, as mentioned, he has a cap of 150% crit damage, so you dont want to go over that, just wasting stats at that point, so get to 150% put a red gem in his weapon, and it will help out, followers seem so minor but they really are a key part of the end game Grifting.
Everything else at this point is nitpicking, could you have a better RoRG? sure, is that why you cant progress into the 50s? No. but definitely some thing to have on the to do list. If I had your barb, heres what I would be looking for:
better amy, need CHD,CHC. immunity is nice here but isnt required, do some hellfires, see if you dont get lucky
Better RoRG, bounties on bounties, need them anyway for rift stones
Templar Relic, reasons are obvious
Ancient IKBB, ancient weapon is the biggest upgrade you can get
after that its just continue to farm paragon and ancient items. each paragon level you gain, is a little more power your hero gains.
Theres also how you do the rifts, and what choices you make to be considered, I stream every day starting at 6pm PST feel free to stop by and we can chat about things. twitch.tv/firenfly
ok that's fair and I apologize. To get a little more in depth on it, shoulders and chest are really good spots to obtain a large portion of your health pool, I personally would prefer, just from my own testing, STR VIT ARES LIFE%. To me when your clearing up to the RG trash dies so fast that rend does just about nothing. Getting some tanky stats here allows you to stand in stuff a little longer via increasing the heal from blood funnel, (HP based) The only time rend really helps you out is during the RG itself, and even then its just not that great. You'll notice no one really uses lamination (outside of 6-4 ww/ik set obviously), and thats because rend just isnt that great so adding 2 doesnt do much for you. Anyway to me you are better off getting life % on the shoulders and chest, helps out a ton (id honestly recommend 850k health at a minimum)
Your gear isnt to bad, you need some bracers, go craft some reaper wraps with str vit 6% crit and 20% physical, good place to start, yes unity will help out, more paragon levels will help out as well, just keep grinding you'll feel the power increase as you go on. gems are leveled so that good, always try to keep your gems at or above the gr level you do. but it seems like you know how to gear(again get better bracers) just need to stay and the grind, your start climbing soon.
you have to kill maltheal =P can do it on adventure mode, just go kill him real quick and he'll drop the pattern
god with unity my dmg is not doing the dmg it should be. Am I suppose to be killing all the blues and yellows because usually I skip those
I skip yellows kite blue to thick packs and AoE down, if a yellow follows and happens to die, great, but dont 1v1 them, to much health, not worth the time investment. If you're not getting more xp then time invested, move on.
To me, this build is super-squishy. I'm having a hard time getting through GR45 with this. How would you improve survivability without sacrificing damage?
without armory or stats to go off of, pretty hard question to answer. Cant tell you to use diamond gems if your health is at 200k as a example. Link armory and I would be happy to take a look at you
I should clarify: Overall, this build is nice. My previous personal best with my barbarian was only GR 34, and I've bested that by 10 just by the new Wastes set.
Sorry, here is my armory: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/JSYantiss-1723/hero/47009501
My toon is Jack Oneill
Templar gear has been updated. Have Flawless Royal Ruby in each piece that can have one.
what is your all res at roughly? i personally run a little over 1k. I really wish there was some form of replay option for grifts to see how people actually do the rift, because that's actually very important. your gear is good, you need better rolls, but you have the main idea down. need pants with all res, ancient weapon. higher CHD on gloves and you do need to level your gems some more. General rule of thumb is to keep your gems at or around the level of progression rift you are attempting, so got some work to do there. All that being said, its not like there's anything major you are doing wrong. Keep your hit points high, keep your mob density thick, and keep trying.
I do suspect that your biggest issue is your all res is probably low, seeing as you are in all red gems. If you feel weak, gem all res, if your are tanky but a little light on damage, gem rubies. So start with those suggestions.
Cold Res is at 904, all other Res slots average about 600. This is before changing any Rubies to Diamonds. I am up to Paragon 592, at the moment. An Ancient Boulder Breaker would be great...if only it were that simple to farm one. With that current gear I have, I cleared GR 44 in just over 8 minutes. Now that I think about it, the mobs were pretty dense in that one. With my clan, they're playing a lot of Seasons right now. I would love to get a gem-leveling group together, as I have some really high keystones in my stash I want to try. Will definitely look into some of these recommendations. Thank you!
yeah thats a little low for resistances so work on bumping that up, as for the weapon, i know you cant just go buy one, rng is rng, just find some groups to smash some 35-40 grifts together to farm some gear, the drops will happen eventually, more or less just listing things that will help push higher levels. the gear will come and rifts will fall over, enjoy the grind and growth of power, im always keeping an eye on this thread or can add my btag fire#1508 and call help with suggestions when needed. good luck out there
