Necromancer Blizzard Q&A: Unique Class Weapon, Golem, and Gameplay Information
Earlier today, Blizzard hosted a Facebook Q&A with three members of the Diablo 3 team: Lead FX Artist Julian Love, Community Manager Brandy Camel, and Sr. Game Designer Travis Day. This Q&A focused on the Necromancer, the upcoming class that was announced at BlizzCon last year. While the Q&A didn't include any information about the Necromancer launch date or pricing, the team did discuss many gameplay elements such as curses, sets, and more.
- The Diablo 2 Necromancer was used as a base for the Diablo 3 Necromancer.
- Though a massive undertaking, Revive is returning.
- The Necromancer is darker than the Witch Doctor, with a focus on blood and bone.
- Also different from the Witch Doctor, pets are more controllable to some degree.
- A new corpse mechanic has been invented for the Necromancer to use.
- Aspects from the Poison skill tree from Diablo 2 are not planned to be implemented, as that would encroach on the Witch Doctor.
- A lot of Necromancer skills are up close and personal.
- There are no plans to bring Iron Maiden forward to the Diablo 3 Necromancer.
- There is no defined number yet (and no plans to set a number) for Necromancer summons. It's more of a server performance concern than a client concern.
- Necromancers can wield any weapon that is not class specific.
- They will have their own class weapon: scythes.
- Necromancers will have golems, and they're working on a new golem type.
- 4 to 5 types of golems are planned.
- Damage can come from both the Necromancer and the Necromancer's pets.
- There will be two-handed scythes.
- There will be a variety of Necromancer pets - some permanent and some temporary. Skeletal archers and mages will be making an appearance.
- The Necromancer currently has no DoT spells.
- Current spells are nukes, pets, and utilities. This separates the Necromancer from the DoT-heavy Witch Doctor.
- There are no plans for a special Necromancer form.
- There are no designs for a support-specific Necromancer.
- Necromancers will release to PC and consoles at the same time.
- There will be curses. Lots of curses.
- The lore for the Diablo 2 Necromancer is different from the Diablo 3 Necromancer.
- There will be no pet command interface different from the standard UI.
- It's believed that you'll need RoS to have the Necromancer, as it's a standalone pack.
- Necromancer will have four dungeon sets - one for each dungeon.
- A lot of Necromancer blood skills will cost health along with essence, so there are a lot of mechanics built in to recoup health.
- It's unknown if Lidless Wall will become a Necromancer item.
They said at BlizzCon "late" 2017, so I don't know why that's a surprise to you.
Personally I'm just excited that D3 is getting any new content at all, beyond a handful of new legendaries.
also: content?
- a fan service class for an outrageous price (anything above 5 euros / dollars IS outrageous)
- set dungeons which are four already known tilesets with some conditions to be met weren't content when they first arrived
- four new sets with some art which empower enough skills to differentiate four specs, one of them will be the best and the rest garbage
- and i am already at a loss here. was there anything more to that DLC? i think it was one zone or something like that, not that it would matter since we already breeze through every zone without unique characteristics and only looking for big packs of mobs
the rest of the game will be unafflicted by this thing. maybe they have one guy to write the quest dialogue for the necro (and sure as hell voice the class, too), the rest is just another class. not like the crusader, where the class came with a lot more.
we still have all the old stuff in this game, we got screwed on those two QoL changes and we are still severly disconnected from the developers.
just yesterday i logged on and tried to build some spec i read about. yeah, some hundred items in my mail and no place to store that crap. or compare items i found in whatever season they came from to items i already have. next thing i did was to try craft / cube yellows to get the items needed for the spec, since i hadn't stored enough of that stuff SOMEWHERE. i gave up after 30 minutes, couldn't even bring myself to enter a rift / grift. diablo 4 can't come quick enough.
I went to another game SWTOR after the huge disappointment of the 20 year anniversary dungeon, which was so unbelievable bad. It's funny how much content other games make, in 3 months there is the equivalent to 8 years of D3 content.
So now its waiting time again hoping speculating.. seems like that is the one thing D3 endgame is about hoping someone would care to make something worthwhile..
As expected zzzzzzzz stuff for the most part we already knew and most of what was said that's new info is disappointing. Unreal....
While nothing gets me SUPER hyped, I like the sound of a Tanky Melee Necro, specialising in health drain and Golems. Fingers crossed that will be a supported build...
Content that will come with the necromancer includes two character slots, two stash tabs, a pet, and a portrait frame. The new areas and QoL changes will be patched in so if you don't purchase the necro, you'll still get these things.
RE your stash space issues, if it's to the point where it makes moving stuff around nigh impossible (been there myself), I suggest doing a very aggressive cull of your items. Just get rid of the ones that aren't legacy items of use still as well as any items you're not using and are not used for the build you want to make.
Assuming, you have unlocked your 4 stash tabs from seasons, you'll have some hope of storing all set items and complimentary legendaries for the popular builds. I found it particularly hard to do this until my 9th tab was unlocked and even then, I had to use every character slot as a mule when that character wasn't being played.
Hoping they do another one of these soon. Can't wait for the Necro
seems like its gonna be too little too late, but we'll see
Q & (maybe) A
'Yep POE is now working on their fifth expansion...'
why exactly are poe players in every goddamn diablo thread/post on every website advertising their game?
seriously, we get it, poe is great.
(not.)
im really looking forward to play the necro and considering i have had years (with breaks) fun with diablo 3, the seasons, the changes being made to builds over the time and tinkering out builds, i dont give that much of a fuck how much the necro dlc will cost, ill buy it and i will have at least one fuckton of fun with it.
Hes not the one on a Diablo Fan site talking about another game. If you have so much time to waste on a game you obviously dont like then use it to play the almighty POE. Now i am a fan of both so not hating on POE
No they said second half of 2017... >.<
Really? Because I've played Tanky heroes, I've played Pet heroes, but as of right now, I've not played any Tanky Pet heroes. Also, Drain =\= Gain, I'm specifically after a vampiric health drain build, which seems MORE than possible, as they made a point to specifically mention that the Necro will have ways to drain the enemies health.
But yeah, please point me towards a tanky pet build. Solo pet btw, I don't want to be managing a whole fekkin zoo.
And I know there's no certainly the build I'm looking for will be supported, that's why I said "Fingers crossed that will be a supported build"... i mean, as of right now we can only really guess with any certainty at TWO sets for WD:
1: a Pet set, probably based around Skellies. Heavy pet damage, mid to low Necro damage.
2: a Nuke set. Heavy Necro damage, slim to no pet damage.
BUT, as we know there are four sets on release, it's not impossible to imagine that one of those sets COULD be a middle ground set. Focusing on a balanced damage profile, partially pet, partially nukes. for those that want a little of both. Something similar to Helltooth Gargs, where you deal damage with the necro to increase the damage of your pet and vice versa.
