Today I want to make a video giving my thoughts on the next patch update to 2.1 PTR. I talk about more exploit countermeasures, life per resource spent vs. other forms of regeneration balancing, further buffs to monks, the new legendary gem upgrade system, item changes, possible release date, and more. Enjoy!

Thanks for your feedback, this is the type of constructive criticism I like. With regards to my gear, 'any build' won't quite work, but yes a lot more builds are viable on PTR because 1) Ancients are now really good and 2) 2H weapons are now really good. If nothing else, it's a showcase of those two facts. I want people to see that build diversity is possible, but yes I agree some builds will be stronger than others.Quote from wiwh
I don't want to be controversial here -- and don't get me wrong, I usually like your content. But these builds you have been posting as of late are a bit lackluster in the creativity and research realm. I understand you want to have views and followers, so posting new content is important. But pretty much what it boils down to in your build videos is your having an awesome gear, making pretty much all builds with a semblance of thought viable.
The build you are showcasing in this particular video would have a lot of trouble going past GR30, even with your incredible gear. Spin to win is not back, at least not in this form. Consider a raekor-WW build instead, which has awesome movement, is great at packing mobs together (for teamplay, for AOE maximization, etc...), likely deals more damage and has more survivability.
What's more, it is impossible to get perma wrath. This would require 77% of effective CDR, which no barb gear can achieve, even with new leoric, gogok and belt. Part of the reason is that CDR and the passive boon of bul kathos don't work well together: the base on which CDR is calculated already includes boon's bonus. Too bad. That being said, 50% WOTB uptime is possible at a fairly low cost to dps, which makes it OK as part of a late-game build I guess.
I like your choice of Auguild, which people might have discarded as sub-par itemization, but which really is not. That being said, it is not that good with the new Furnace, because its bonus damage is additive, not multiplicative to other elite dmg bonuses.
Overall I think you started with a good idea, and made it worth the viewer's time because you have a truly amazing gear. But the build itself, the research behind it and the itemization is a bit lackluster. That being said, I still enjoy your content and am impressed by your productivity when it comes to sharing content with your viewers. If it can allow other people to refine these builds and think them through, it would be all for the better, so keep it up!
With regards to these 'pure' builds, there's only 1 more I'll be showing - fire HOTA - before I make ~2-4 greater rift videos combining Raekors, IK, Ancients, EQ, etc. I've already done EQ and Raekor's videos, but this will be a good follow up at higher tiers. I may or may not add in legendary gems.
I like Aughild because outside of EQ (shoulders) or Raekors (shoulders - either Raekor or Ward), there's no good shoulder slot. If anything, the new Furnace allows you to drop SoJ and equip double Unity instead.
With regards to CDR, here's what I came up:
Max CDR in all slots EXCEPT for helm, according to http://bannedofgamers.com/index.php?cdr/ gives you 61.08%
Add in 25% from Leorics and you get ~70.81%
Add in 20% from max stack Gogok of Swiftness and you get ~76.65%
Add in 8% from Vigilante and you get ~78.52%
I'll show you the math if necessary, but yes it's possible. The question is whether it's FEASIBLE, considering you would need max CDR in ALL slots and you'd have to dual wield with 10% in each weapon. -

The life per resource spent is a consideration, but there are ways around that (like CDR stacking for spamming heal spells, etc). We'll have to see how it plays out, but I can definitely see some builds that are primarily generators with high cost spenders as resource dumps (like Boulder Toss).Quote from Tehstool
I saw the video and you were saying that some builds might only have resource generators because of how strong some might hit. Did you consider that having only resource generators might be a bad thing? You might not be able to benefit from the increased life per resource spent which you called life steal.
Now that might not matter in some cases like weapon throw or punish with angel hair braid, but it was just a thought I had.
I don't think we're close to launch at all. Some will disagree, but I think September will be the earliest we get 2.1. October wouldn't surprise me.Quote from ruksakThanks, watched the whole thing. I've been avoiding PTR play, I want the experience to be fresh. We should be getting close to launch, so I figured it was time to start learning a bit about what's going on in PTR. Great review that really got me fired up.
This should be the final push D3 needs to convince (most) core fans that RoS is a legitimate follow-up for LoD.

As for drop rates, yes they are generally inflated for PTR. I think the legendary drop rate at the RG is not inflated though. Think about how many legendaries you get per average T6 run - at least a couple on average. So it would make sense for a T6+ greater rift to drop the same. I think the legendary GEM drop rate IS boosted though, as I've found a gem EVERY time I completed a greater rift until I had them all, no matter the tier. -

shaggy posted a message on Diablo 3 Doesn't Fulfill Character ProgressionPosted in: Diablo III General Discussion
I disagree completely.Quote from UndeadProtossEvery spell is over the top, you don't have this unified sense of progression like you had in Diablo 2. Where you would start off with a weak skill like ice bolt and then over the course of your leveling process attain stronger skills that increased in effectiveness and became more visually potent as you put more skill points into them (think how you got more charged bolts the more points you put in).
Why in the world would you want to slog through garbage spells that are shitty-on-purpose so that you can appreciate the good ones? That's masochistic and it also means that stuff like icebolt weren't anything more than filler spells until you got to X level when you unlock <spell that's better in every circumstance>.
I don't want items that suck. I don't want skills that suck. I don't want the philosophy behind upgrading my character to be "hey, this item doesn't suck, and you've spend 30 levels getting nothing but things that do suck... so isn't that great?" We already have that with legendaries and it SUCKS. No one gives two shits about an Angel Hair Braid. They're speedbumps. They're fodder for enchanting and crafting. They are, by design, exactly the things that you say make character progression awesome in ARPGs.... yet the community absolutely hates them. -

KageKaze posted a message on Silly Nephalem, That doesn't go there!I don't usually just create a thread for a video without a discussion piece attached as I hate click bait type threads, but I just wanted to show this off. It's an update post about the PTR, mostly about what you see here on Diablofans anyway, but at around the 3:25 mark you'll see there's a slight issue with the new Transmog set that was added in last night's patch.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZDQ4G8KuYs
For those that still don't care to click, the video shows the new Seasonal reward transmog set "Conqueror's Pauldrons" being used on a head piece instead of the shoulders. Hilarity ensues. -

Tou posted a message on Major PTR Bug: Double SocketsPosted in: Diablo III General Discussion
you did it wrong.Quote from TunafishWat? Just tried it and it doesnt work. So you reroll a stat to socket, add a gem, then reroll the socket away and roll it back? Because rolling away an already existing socket and "adding a gem" isnt possible, it simply swaps the gem with the weapon, and when you reroll off a socket, the old gem is removed, not so sure how you got this to work...
Have a socket
re-roll it to something else
add the gem to get socket
re-roll the thing back to socket
get 2 sockets -

shaggy posted a message on Will Hellfire Amulet be our only choice?Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
The one thing Blizzard would be wise to do is to ignore the noise from the instant gratification crowd AND the "I wear diapers while I'm playing because getting up to go pee during my 20-hour play sessions would cost me two legendary drops per week" crowd.Quote from MandrikarIt isn't an elitist attitude: it is an achievement that takes dedication. If, by making keywardens drop keys 100% of the time, and uber bosses drop their parts 100% of the time, is "making the game fun", every character will have an amulet within 2-3 hours of the 2.1 patch and the game will become dull very quickly. People need something that takes time and effort to continue playing.
Neither group really helps create a better game. One group wants to get things without much effort/time, the other group expects that because of their effort/time they should be entitled to spoils beyond that of others who can't, for whatever reason, devote more time to playing video games per week than to going to their job.
This is a video game. Things don't have to be "earned" all the time. That being said, in many cases, "earning" something provides a sense of pride and/or contentment. A healthy mix of things is to be desired. The game can't solely be based on PLAY MOAR TO GET MOAR... it's a bad philosophy that I never will endorse.
More time will ALWAYS correlate to more rewards in games like these. There's nothing wrong with attempting to mitigate that to some degree because, God forbid, people don't play D3 for 50 hours/week. They don't deserve stuff then.
Ultimately, layered RNG (RNG to get the keys, RNG to get the organs, RNG to get the right rolls) feels exponentially more-punitive the less time you have to play the game. That's NOT a good paradigm. What I would suggest is that the crafting cost of the amulets & rings are moved to the Infernal Machines and, instead of collecting organs, each boss has a chance to drop an amulet or ring, or maybe even both. We sure as fuck don't need 100% drops. People asking for 100% drops are really just hinting at a better solution: remove one of the layers of RNG.
Make it farm keys => kill ubers instead of farm keys => farm organs => craft ring/amulet. Even if the rate of acquisition was roughly the same, it would have a pretty profound psychological effect on people who are farming it and would go a LONG way to eliminating bad organ streaks. I know I sure as fuck didn't have anything close to even organ distribution on lvl 60 ubers. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
