ZOMG I'm second to reply
As cool as a new SC would be I hope for D3 way more, especially since CoH is so incredibly awesome and I'd hate to see it have to compete w/ Blizzard. In any case, based on everything we've heard for all these years it's almost definitely D3.
If someone invents a method of time travel, please post on this forum so May 19 comes sooner ^_^_^_^_^_^

Feb 9, 2007mrdoom posted a message on Diablo and Blizzard General Trademark activity!Yeah I know, it sucks that E for All isn't for like 6 months :(. But maybe Blizzard will have mercy and announce it sooner. It seems like they'd want to build up some hype for E for All and announce it sooner. What better way to attract more Blizzard fans?Posted in: News

Feb 8, 2007mrdoom posted a message on Diablo and Blizzard General Trademark activity!Doesn't anyone remember? They're not doing E3 anymore. It's gonna be mostly private expositions for initial info and then companies will show stuff off at the brand-spanking-new Entertainment for All Expo (E for All). Hopefully they'll announce the freakin game before then. If they announced it once that publishing thing happens that would be bitchin. It seems like we've been seeing stuff about D3 for a while, and that trademarking stuff began in 2005, so I'm guessing they're keeping it under wraps until it's closer to completion, considering all the hassle they went through with every game they've released since and including Warcraft 1. That way they won't have to deal with harrasment when they inevitably delay the release. That's my 2 centsPosted in: News

QFT! Seriously.

I still say that there isn't enough evidence that the whole game looks like the demo, however. TBH not all the dungeons were super creepy in D2, and this could be simply an earlier one that lacks quite the same level of blood and broken stuff. Also, the outdoor stuff looked fine (rainbow aside) it was suitably creepy without seeming unnaturally dead, which I don't think it's supposed to, seeing as shit hasn't really gone down yet in D3.

Voting that it's fine for now, but should other parts of the game not be a little more gory and dark then I would say it needs some more of that stuff.

Well, when people use the master looter system it's usually with people they know, 'cause if that's the case then they cannot see it in other games either. You use that system with people you trust.
Rolling or need/greed like WoW are for more casual groups with random people, such might be the case here too.

Plus I bet that super rare awesome items will not follow those rules, and will instead be distributed based on the rules you have set for your party (like many MMOs use). So either a master looter takes it, or it is rolled for, or whatever.

As the for the other response, I'm not 100% on the lack of specific prerequisite abilities. It is, in fact, the part of my post I'm least sure about. I do think it better to have more general prerequisites than specific abilities, but I also didn't find the D2 skill progression to be terrible.
There seems to be a little confusion on the part of the niche ability concept though, so let me try to state it better.
1.) abilities do not overlap on a given class
2.) abilities are scaled so that even early game abilities may always be useful if you continue to invest in them
3.) as you advance through the game, you gain access to the more specialized of the class's abilities: so like with the barbarian, you might start with some simple moves like cleave and ground stomp, but these moves would remain viable throughout the game with enough points on them. Later in their progression, they would gain access to some of the moves like whirlwind and leap, which would be superior but proportionally more costly (in terms of mana/fury/etc) and more specialized in addition (cleave being simply a powerful and wide area melee attack, something to be used against single tough enemies, while whirlwind is more of an anti-enemy blob attack, and leap is a specialized mobile attack that allows for maneuvering). All abilities have their place and scale, but some are better at very specific situations, and are gained late in the game.
I hope that is clearer.

And the fee does NOT keep the kiddies out of WoW, which is kiddier than Diablo ever was. All the little 13 year old and their NE chick characters... Sad.

I can only imagine how bitchin sorcs will be in this, especially if the male one looks like the concept art of the sorcerers from D1. Those guys looked like tough-badasses. Then all the sexy graphical stuff to display the carnage of nova and frozen orb and whatever else.
*drools*

ah, you missed the point >_< The idea is that the power progression IS there, as well as the variety in skills available and thus variety in character builds, but to do away with redundant abilities (like the 4 seperate sorceress ice projectiles) and restructure the trees so that one will not often (or never) be forced to put a skill in a point they don't want to access one they do.

So while it's a subtle nod to that one game (very subtle) it actually enhances those things that you mentioned, rather than lessening them.

Basically, the idea would be that a character with one skill point in a given ability at level 99 would be better at it than a character at level 10 with one skill point in it. This way, if someone chooses to pick a skill and max it out as early as possible, it wouldn't necessarily be too strong for the level they are at, though it would still be of the right strength when they were at the level cap.

But then are we not just imitating all those MMO forums--I mean, that one group of forums?
