I agree with a lot of what y'all talked about.

I never played D2, but I browse these forums a lot and I know that the more dedicated Diablo fans were really disappointed with how far off D3 was. It was helpful, from my perspective, to hear the actually differences and reasons discussed in detail.

    Thanks!

posted a message on New Feature: General Passives
I mentioned this in another thread, but I don't feel like it was the right place to bring up this idea.

Also, I've never played D2, so if there is a feature like this from the previous game, I don't mean to take credit for it! I just thought of this today and wanted to see what y'all think.

What if every character had 3 General Passives?

Like we already have the class-specific ones, but what if there were 6-10 general passives that everyone from every class could chose from? They could be cosmetic or convenience things that wouldn't break the game. A few examples:
    • Increased movement speed when out of combat
    • Your hero is engulfed in flames
    • Your character leaves a trail of shadows
    • Your character randomly screams in anger
    • Sometimes the skin of those in your party disappears
    • etc..
Seems like something fun (not a priority) that could make farming a little less of a drag.

    Quote from Zero(pS)

I think it could work if it was a separate inventory (like that Talisman idea) and which had an interesting tetris component to it and as a mean to buff things you can't buff through gear (like improving maximum possible movespeed or something).

@Zero(pS): Sorry if I'm just repeating what you said, but I never played D2, so I've never heard of Talismans.

But what you said made me think of this: What if every character had 3 General Passives? posted a message on Paragon Levels are Character Specific
Hey all! Long time reader of DF.com, but I rarely post. I wanted to start this topic and see if it gains any traction, because I haven't really seen much mention of it.

    ...

My play time in D3 had started to wane before 1.04, but I have been hooked back on this game ever since its release, and I think 1.05 sounds interesting, too!

First off, I'm a big fan of the Paragon Leveling system. Coupled with the fixed repair costs, I no longer feel like I am losing progress when I farm. I am only up to PL13 on my main (Demon Hunter), but I love the fact that it takes so long to level up. It's rewarding and keeps me slaying while I look for some of the new legendaries (I've found two cheap ones; sold for about 850k).

My only criticism of the Paragon System is that it is character specific. I have a level 60 barb and my WD is nearly at 60, but because of how time consuming Paragon Leveling is, I know that I will never want to play my alternate characters.

To play my alternate 60s is to literally lose money. I understand why they made Paragon individual, but I think a fair fix (in order to promote playing multiple characters again), would be to make the Magic Find aspect of Paragon Levels an account-wide bonus.

For example, my DH is PL13 and my Barb is PL0. They would both have +39% MF Bonus, but my DH is the only one that gets the additional stat upgrades.

This way, if I were to play my other level 60s, I wouldn't feel like I was wasting my time. It would allow me to change my play style and farm with my other characters without significantly dropping the effectiveness of my farming.

As it stands now, I will only ever play my DH, and my other characters will just gather dust..

    Thoughts?

posted a message on 1.04 Bugs
    A couple of things:

    * It is horribly frustrating for Leah to initiate combat with a goblin when the whole party is not ready. My group lost two goblins in such a manner today, because Leah decided to run in like Leroy Jenkins. I remember a blue mentioning this as something to get fixed. Any ETA on this?

    * I have encountered issues with NV stacks and elite-loot when partying with my brother lately. The scenario is as follows: We are killing an elite pack and I die. I rez so I can quickly get back to the fight, but while I'm running back, my brother finishes off the pack. I apparently am too far away from him to get the stack OR the loot drops. This has happened a few times now, and it's frustrating to participate almost the entire fight and not receive any benefits from it except repair costs.

posted a message on Does 1.04 address resource usage???
After seeing the barb update (and before the DH preview was released), I was glad Blizzard decided to make drastic changes! I play primarily DH too, and I knew that our class can deal lots of DPS, so I was curious to see what Blizzard would decide to change.

After they released the DH preview, my gut feeling was..disappointment.

I'm not a theory-crafter and I'm not hardcore enough to test and perfect builds, but based only off the preview, I don't think they addressed the major flaws with our class.

Here is what I struggle with, and what I hope is addressed in 1.0.4:

The Smoke Screen nerf really upset me, but I can see how huge of an exploit it was. I've learned to adapt and play more evasively. I use Caltrops a lot more and clear/kite more thoroughly. However, the 1.5 seconds of Smoke Screen does not appear to be enough time for many mobs to drop aggro on me. In other words, I get chased, pop SS, and they continue to chase me. My latency is low, so maybe it has to do with the servers? Again, I'm no expert, but this is frustrating.

Another thing that truly is aggravating are the "Fast" mobs. Specifically, the mobs that are already fast to begin with are now lightning fast. Smoke Screen popped over and over with Preparation is still insufficient. Without a "tank", there is no way I can clear these mobs using my current gear. I know I could farm Act 1 over and over looking for gear bumps, or spend money on the AH, but the farming process is simply too taxing for someone as busy as I am. Maybe I'm not meant to progress past Act 2 Inferno! Alas!

I think my biggest complaint with the DH class at the moment is the resource cost of so many skills... I'm less inclined to use a skill if it costs half my resources. Maybe it's a mental thing? In other words, because of how much a DH has to move (kite) the mobs, I think I would rather have a lower dps/cost skill on my bar than a higher dps/cost one or one with a long cooldown.

I love the game (never really played D2), but I am a huge Blizzard fan and proudly support them. And while I can't complain for a non-subscription game that continues to receive updates, I think Blizzard appreciates our feedback because they truly do want to have a polished product for the community. I stopped playing for several weeks, but these new updates are exciting! I look forward to "end game" content, whatever it turns out to be, and I certainly will give the DH updates a chance.

Worst case scenario, I just swap over to my barb, because their DPS upgrades look sweet! (And they are natural tanks to boot :)
