Sep 15, 2012aarondf2012 posted a message on Scheduled Maintenance, Puzzle Ring - So Many Goblins, Build Diversity & Skill hotswapping. PollThey said feedback has changed since Beta.... there's an obvious reason for this. In beta, you have a more intelligent population, aware of game mechanics and balancing for long-term playability. In the current population, let's just say the bar is lowered.Posted in: News

Sales mean nothing if the game doesn’t live on in all of our hearts, and standing by our games is what Blizzard does. Patch 1.0.4 is a step in the right direction, but we have no illusions that our work is done.
'players 8' command -- ... to allow players to make up their own minds about how hard or how easy is right for them.

Everything we want to hear is being said. I really, really hope this follows through to actual implementation. It's been said before.
On a side note, the structure of this statement makes it incredibly clear how the PR liason helped craft this mission statement. It's pretty textbook. (Acknowledge mistake, supply defense, supply personal emotional background shifting the aggressor into a defender, address a desire to solve issues without locking into real answers, and finally, come full circle and repeat the apology and thematic statement) There's nothing wrong with this, everyone in a corporate or political setting does it. It's just funny that we've socially come far enough to see through the process :).
All in all, a needed communication. It wouldn't have sat right to let 1.0.4 sweep the incident under the rug. Thanks for talking to us and keep it going! - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Yes, people will learn a little bit about valuation. Current valuation. Filtered through one person's subjective filtering of the AH and one person's toons, skill builds and items they've researched. Others will NOT learn how to do it themselves as a repeatable skill. Basically, it gives them a single fish, but doesn't teach them how to fish for themselves.
By learning guidelines and theories and not specific minimums, people will be prepared to price items on their own, in perpetuity.
I do pricing videos on Youtube and it's all about teaching methodologies through many, many examples. It's not about a snapshot of an economy and deducing rules from an all-too-small sample size. When you understand the 'why' of something, you'll be better off.
As the game changes (patch changes, skill changes, content changes, itemization changes, proc introductions, pvp implementation, etc) there will be big swings in gear valuation. A spreadsheet won't help you at all in these situations. But if you understand the audience, the buyer, then you'll understand their needs as a gearset (not a single piece, but overall needs and how to strategically arrange them). Then you can identify areas to exploit and increase your profit.
Just because it's a game doesn't mean it doesn't take work.
I'm not the best or the richest, but I do have a top tier character (according to diabloprogress) and well over 2 billion in gear and gold and a steady cash-out through the RMAH with never a $ put in. And I average three hours a day. It's not because I was lucky with drops. It's from understanding economies. This isn't fun for everyone, nor should it be.
But if you love the game, any game with an economy/AH, then you owe it to yourself to learn more. You only have to learn it once. That knowledge will crossover to any other game economy. A spreadsheet will only teach you a sliver of information about one game. Completely insulated information.
Gameplay and net worth in-game are not mutually exclusive activities
(sorry for the long post, bored on my lunch break)

Sorry but you're wrong. Amulets cap at 65% and rings at 35%. AND you aren't even factoring in Witching Hour legendary belt that can give you another 50%.

Actually the price of a PC Room is relevant, since Korea is the only place offering the xp bonus. I was replying to the poster who asked if it was worth it to pay for the bonus... No one was talking about other public gaming venues. Maybe read the whole thread? It's only a dozen :).

Do you realize that a PC Bang is about $0.60 / hour? They all have very nice 24" IPS monitors and fast machines with gaming keyboards and mice. It's a very popular and cultural aspect here in Korea, since it's cheaper than having a gaming PC at home.

I am interested to know how long this 'limited time event' is though. It'd be curious if a Korean player started to pull ahead in the Paragon race when you factor in 75% NV + 31% Ruby + 30% Leoric's Signet + 6% Follower's Leoric's Signet + 25% PC Bang = 167% exp.

Also possibly in the market for a nice Zunimassa's Pox with Crit Chance.

Glory Bane
Mighty Weapon
1.30 Attacks/second
1171 wpds
176 Dex
935 Life on Hit
0
Chantodo's Force with Arcane Power on Crit
Mempo Twilight with Intelligence and Crit Chance
I'm very aware of the going rates and have plenty of profit sitting in both gold and RM auctions houses, ready to be spent :).
Get in touch! Thanks

Look at your experience bar? lol Write the number down when you start and when you finish. Subtract.

I only had time for 2 runs before work today, but here are my first results. My times include going back to town and ID'ing items.
Act I (almost all zones)
Ruby: Yes (106% exp including NV stacks)
Run #1: 70 minutes, 14,323,000 exp
Run #2: 75 minutes, 14,070,000 exp
My hope is to get a clearer picture of how much Exp vs Time difference there is between Inferno Acts.
Good luck grinding all!

You missed the point entirely. Please try reading it again lol.
As the Paragon levels increase, the time spent grinding each successive level gets significantly longer. Mob exp stays the same. At best you're killing the same Act III/Act IV mobs over and over for higher required Paragon level dings. As the leveling process gets longer, you're seeing a higher return on your investment in the form of TIME from the 31% exp gem than you did at earlier Paragon levels. This, like I said, is completely separate from your motivation to choose MF.
