I didn't say to sacrifice one or the other stats to try to maintain them equal, and if it came across that way then my mistake. The point is, Armor is equally effective at reducing damage as all resist, but people tend to forget that and pay out their ass for a peice with 80 all resist when something with +250 armor and 65 all resist would in almost all cases provide more mitigation. I would wager a substantial portion of my gold that many people don't think to enter armor into a search field when they search for gear on the AH.

Guess i got burned there ;)

i forgot it, since its more productive stacking resists, and its quite relative depending on your armor level.
Stacking resists and ignoring armor is quite unproductive IMO. Your total damage reduction is Resistances x Armor. At 10.3k armor, my dmg reduction is at 77.45%, and with 990 allres (ignoring individual resistances for simplicity's sake) 76.75%. So,

    1-0.7745=0.2255; (reduction from armor)
    1-0.7645=0.2355; (reduction from resistances)
    0.2355*0.2255=0.0531 (Total damage taken)

Which means I take 5.31% of the damage that monsters deal after mitigation. Lets say that instead of trying to get armor on most peices like I have done, I instead just went for All resistance, leaving me with about 6400 armor (I have seen many barbs with under 6k armor in very good gear, so this is a realistic value). At 6400 armor, damage reduction is at 68.10% from armor. Only 9.35% less than when I was at 10.3k armor, so I only take ~10% more damage right?

    1-0.6810=0.319
    0.2355*0.319=.0751

So after armor and resistances, I only take 7.51% of damage from monsters, which doesn't sound that bad. But...7.51/5.31=1.41, meaning I am taking 41% more damage than before. In the current state of the game, this is ok since its fairly easy to outgear the content, but once you start to turn up the monster difficulty in the next patch, you may wish you had a bit more damage reduction.

If you want to maximize your mitigation, the best way to do so is by keeping your damage reduction from Armor and All resistances equal, or as close to equal as you can get. Relative values for armor vs all resistances is 1 Resistance = 10 armor, if you keep a 10:1 ratio. This value is dynamic and will change depending on how much of each stat you have.

Its funny how everyone focuses on what their All Resistance should be at and don't think twice about armor. THEY DO THE SAME EXACT THING.

posted a message on Switching from Wizard to WW Barb with a fairly high budget and have some questions
I have the 5 piece IK, but If I found Move speed Ice Climbers and Good trifecta gloves I'd ditch it. Its nice, but not necessary. My observations from the ptr...on high MP, melee hits start to hurt. The 3 pc is probably not a bad idea. Right now, you dont feel it but on the PTR spinning through a pack of tremors or Colossal golger mobs can result in you getting basically 1 shot. I have 10.3k armor and 1k all resists with 50k HP on live to give you an idea of what kind of dmg that is.

+1 after patch u will need great gear to farm MP10 :/
Why is this a bad thing? Its something to work towards. The highest difficulty should require the best gear.
Even right now Barb Items are So So UP at the Price :/ after patch they will even grow More :(
I doubt it, the bar for what the top end gear is at is going to be raised, more gear will become available with the increased droprates of legendaries and all items being rolled at ilvl63, it will be much easier to find gear, and the market will be flooded with gear that is considered pretty good right now. Give it a week or two and gear that costs 100mil right now will be down to 10-20mil

Yeah, since they added optional difficulty increase to the game and in those higher difficulties monsters hit harder, that means Barbs got nerfed? Flawless logic.
He means that when blizzard nerfed the Run Like the Wind rune they didn't need to Nerf anything else (specially the All Resist buff).
Because even if they nerf the monsters dps when you don't have Resists Elit packs will still damage you more than Normally.
If you ask wyh here is why - Cuz they are A) Attacking you and B) Hitting you with Elemental Attacks.
Pure Example - > A Normal Psy. Mob with Elec. + Arcane + Extra HP so when u hit them u get hit from the Elec. and then when they spawn Arcane Lazers and u are a WW Barb u will go true those lazers and take damage and those 140 (or more) resist mather because if you have Before Patch 550-650 Resist with the Buff after the patch u will have 450 Resist and that my friend is a terrible thing to have as a survivability.

Wrong. They nerfed monster damage, as well as resistances. Both were reduced to balance each other out, and the net result is slightly higher survivablility after the patch. The damage from affixes like electrified, arcane enchanted, molten ect are not independant of monster damage reduction...all these things had their damage reduced by 25%.

You guys seem to be under the impression that War Cry: Impunity was the only ability in the game to get nerfed. Every class across the board had survival skills reduced to balance the damage nerfs.

WW barbs are obviously imbalanced, and to bring them back in line with other classes they decided to also reduce the effectiveness of LoH, which is separate from the warcry nerf. If the Proc coefficient for sprint was unchanged, barbs would be just as overpowered as they are currently on live, the changes level the playing field a bit.

After that they Nerf the Shout for All Resist from 50% to 20% and that will cost you a lot of survivability because (for me) the -30% resist lost is over 140 @AR (All Resist).

Well, except that you'll actually gain a lot of survivability because they're nerfing monster damage far, far more than the loss of 140 resist all will cost you.

Yeah sure, go on believing that...
players x - monsters will hit like a truck! and u got 30% less resist.
They really are smashing barbs faces with the nerf hammer guys... dont be so deluded.
    lol...

I've heard that if you play on odd numbered servers with numbers larger 112, then the barb nerfs do not apply.
    ^ this

Lifesteal is just as potent as it always has been, if your damage is high enough you can go from dead to full health in the blink of an eye.

They nerfed how quickly you gain fury, but also the speed at which you spend it. It really feels no different to me when fighting a mob on the PTR, the only difference is you have to spam sprint/br to make sure you are spending your fury fast enough to keep wotb up full time.

A mighty weapon/Animosity passive is not necessary, but could help if your gear is not great yet. I was able to go to the ptr with the same build I use on live, and had to make no changes whatsoever.

This is a wonderful guide, but you didn't go over how it will help budget barbs. I have a budget of 35Mil and I still easily get wreck by certain elites/champions in Inferno.

Arcane/Electric/Jail ones are mainly the ones that kill me. I get killed by Molten ones the most, How do you think a Budget barb, which most of us are can do to improve our experience in Inferno? Especially Act 3

More all resist. Your pieces should have 60 allres minimum in every slot, you can skip a few slots like neck and rings to pick up stats like cc/ias/cd/loh ect. Its fairly easy to wind up with 800+ all res with your buffs if you try to stick to that general rule.

Also, your mh weapon can be cheaply replaced, the base damage of your main hand is pretty important.

Yes I also always get it when fury is low. Must be some disagreement between client and server about how much fury you have so your client lets you whirl but then the server says you can't. Of course it really should have just made you rubberband, but I guess them trying to fix rubberbanding introduced a new bug that makes you disconnect? Haven't played sprint/ww before 1.0.4 so no idea if the disconnects are 1.0.4-only or if they existed before. In any case rubberbanding and disconnects seem to happen in the same low-fury situations.
Its been around since at least 1.03,which is when it started happening to me, and possibly before that.

In regards to the disconnects, I have noticed it always happens when I am trying to whirlwind at low fury.my guess is that server lag and the rate at which whirlwind consumes fury causes a desync of the client and server. The client thinks you have enough fury to whirlwind because your tornado just crit , but the server thinks you are out, which causes a game crash when the client allows it.

posted a message on Weapon Question!
It will depend on your build, WW barbs will prefer dual wield due to the increased attack speed, which will result in faster ticks of tornados and faster fury return (which is still a very viable build btw, all the doomsday prophets got it wrong). Other builds will be more flexible and depending on if you rely on LoH or Lifesteal to keep yourself alive, you will have to decide which is better for you. There is no right or wrong answer to your question though.
