posted a message on Profiles reveals obvious botting.
I just wanted to touch on what another poster brought up earlier. It was concerning banning every botter as they come across them, as it turns into an arms race, because it allows the bot/hack program writers the chance to adapt their programs on the fly. This is exactly why Blizzard sits back, lets botters run their course, then drop the banwave on them. Why? It's easy to explain.

Botters, when they test their programs, will test the waters. If it seems successful, they open up a bunch of accounts and let them do their work, padding the pockets of Blizzard with each subscription they sell to them. Trust me, as soon as Blizzard catches on to a botter, they are able to track IPs, accounts, and activities to not only to identify the botting program to kill it, but to identify all accounts using this method. When the feel they have a good hold on it, the bring down the Banwave Hammer and squash the botting program, while wiping out a decent size pool of botters.

It's modern warfare. Think about it. Would you rather:

A: See a known terrorist walking down the street, identify him and cut him down where he stands.....OR...

B: Track said terrorist for a few months, find all the safe houses and terrorist cells he is associating with, and lead a calculated air strike, temporarily crippling a terrorist network until the next one arises?

You have to pick your battles. Being a WoW player pretty much since launch, I can tell you that I have not only seen people banned for no reason, I have seen people banned for legitimately legal exercises. I personally received a temp ban when I traded a large amount of gold to my second account before I had the two accounts merged, simply because my IP address of my laptop(running off my neighbors wifi) and my IP were from different providers, and the large amount of gold being traded threw up a flag I guess. All I had to do was place a phone call, explain the situation, and verify some account information, and everything was cleared up. They were very helpful and understanding.

Point being, they can ban for any reason they want. They have in the past, they do now, and they will in the future, and their ToA wording assures us of that. Yeah, it might take time, but they are constantly working on snuffing out botters and their programs. It's easy to sit back and criticize them from the bleachers, but without knowing all the facts and their procedures, try not to play the "i can spot a botter better than you can" card.

posted a message on EU RMAH Not Released, Enrage Timers, RMAH, Blue Posts, J!NX, Fan Art
I honestly think that the majority of the people spending time bitching on the forums are failing to see the bigger picture. You have to use some perspective. With that, I would like to address a few points.

For those that have never played Diablo. This isn't WoW. In this game, you pay your $60 to purchase the game, and that is potentially it. There are 4 levels of difficulty. Once you have beaten the game on normal, try your hand at the next hardest level. You obviously need better gear to be successful. Nothing I have typed here thus far is hard to understand. The gear you get is PURELY RNG. This caters to making the game take longer to fully complete, if total completion is your end-all desire. In WoW, you KNOW where your upgrades drop, so you farm the same place over and over again. In Diablo though, it can drop anywhere, and can have any stats, so if you want an upgrade, you need to spend your farming time in a specific difficulty/act in order to achieve that gear. The biggest difference is that the upgrade you have been looking for might be in that barrel over there. You just don't know, so it gives you a sense of excitement and forces you to make decisions like, "Should I just farm champion mobs, or do I take the time to bust some barrels." You choose.

Now, as far as the RMAH goes, think about it. WoW has PvP ratings and ladders that can/are directly impacted by gear. Sure, skill has a huge part in it, but if you could just buy your gear with Real Money, it would break that, because enough gear can definitely offset the skill of a player if the geared player would be playing at a decent skill level. You are also paying a monthly fee to allow Blizzard to maintain the game as time goes on. Whether they use that money to make the game better and more stable for players, well, that is a whole different discussion and one I don't care to talk about.

Diablo does NOT have recurring revenue. If players just buy the game, thats all the money Blizzard gets from them. They need to make money to continue to be able to pay their people to make the game better and add content. So their fix for that is the RMAH. It is not intended to be a competitive game, at least not as far as promoting racing to the end. They expect you to play the game over and over, like they always have, and how fast you get to the end depends on you. If you want to farm gold to buy gear, then go ahead. As long as there are people that refuse to use authenticators, there will always be a gold AH. The RMAH though, is Blizzard's chance to make recurring revenue. You don't have to use it, but if you do, you can buy the gear you need, and if you do it right, you can earn enough money through selling your own drops to fund that. I don't see what the problem is here. I can tell you that I have already obtained decent gear from the RMAH at a very low price. Sure the stats weren't the absolute BEST that was available, but I was able to buy it for a fraction of the cost of a similar item that was selling for $250. Not unlike the Gold AH, if you are willing to spend the time, and settle for minor stat decreases, you can actually obtain pretty damn good gear for severely discounted prices.

Again, its YOUR choice. If you have the ability to buy from the RMAH, then you equally have the choice to utilize it to earn money/credit yourself. If you fail to capitalize on this, that is your own fault. If you don't have access to it, I guarantee you will still be able to find that same great gear on the Gold AH, just due to the fact that there are millions of people out there just like you that aren't using authenticators that are more than happy to sell stuff there. I just can't seem to grasp what the big deal here is.

Its a single player game that you can team up with friends to beat. How quickly you do that depends on how patient you are. You aren't missing out on anything if you do it through natural gear progression, using the drops you find to move towards game completion. Got a lot of time to farm gold and work the AH? Good for you. If you have extra money laying around that you are willing to spend, great. Use it. It's just a game.

    /end rant
