posted a message on Idea for Balancing D3 PvP
The Kripp Tips video was posted on a private forum I frequent, and as much as I think most of the ideas aren't well thought out, it got me thinking and discussing general PvP balance with some friends.

As it stands, Crit % and +Crit Dmg are huge in blowing DPS values up in PvE. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 85% chance to crit with 428% +crit damage is how people are doing the ridiculous things they're doing, and ultimately, those crits are what would ruin the PvP experience. Even if PvE mobs don't really have any armor/resistances, reducing incoming damage by 90% still isn't enough to survive those crits. You can max on primary stat/IAS/what have you, but it's the crits that are blowing balance out of proportion.

What if contributions to crit from gear were removed for PvP matches? You baseline at 5% chance to crit, 50% +crit damage if I recall. Some passives and actives can buff this up, but if you want crit chance to be high, you're sacrificing slots for it. Give and take in your build, and matches aren't determined by a dice-roll or a few shots because wild crits aren't taking place.

Of course, those who have gear stacked with crit would have to find new gear, maybe. It'd probably be sufficient to start off in PvP anyway, but re-gearing would be the optimal solution. Is it too intrusive? Should we be worried about the short-term complains versus a more long-term scalable solution that would be less invasive?

Am I missing something else that would cause issues?

I'd love to hear honest feedback.

So much fail in this thread talking about d2 not having an "end game"

    -farm Keys
    - to farm organs
    - to farm uber's
Guarantee 75% of the people posting never had a good enough character in d2 to farm this world event easily.
Got your torch and your annilus yourself? <bet you didn't do that either.

Fact is Kripp's right, D2 has a ton more replayability because there was simply more to do. And he posts these videos because D2 still had content patches 5-7 years after release. Perfect time to fix things would be a content patch in 1.1.

This post wins that whole debate.

You meant to say "I agree with this post". The fact that you're on one side of the debate and deciding the outcome because someone happened to agree with you perfectly illustrates why you're ill-suited to be part of the discussion at all.

The truth is, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some sort of "Uber X" scenario was put into D3 at some point down the road.

Some of you are so focused on the destination you completely forget to enjoy the journey.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

People have already said it, but it appears we have a misunderstanding of genres combined with rose-colored nostalgia goggles. I don't think this discussion can even be honest.

It sounds like people just want some shallow set of goals to keep them mindlessly grinding on the game towards some false sense of progression. It never ceases to amaze me how "fun" is no longer its own reward when playing a video game. People play basketball for fun, golf for fun, ski for fun. People pay for entertainment to be entertained, except vocal gamers who think they deserve something for their time, even if that something is essentially meaningless.

We'll be posting the youtube vid later. Coordination wins mechanical battles so hard. We totally couldn't have cleared regular mobs up until Diablo in A4, but we 3-barb'd our way through Inferno Diablo.

Barbs are good. Love my barb.

We're probably done, roughly, for tonight. Odds are we'll pick back up tomorrow night, perhaps with a few streams at once for multiple groups.

    Have a good night folks.

    -.-

lol looking forward to it, sums up about everything I've heard. Stats? Im running at 44Khp, 10k armor, 200-300res (yes Im working on gearing more for this), 12k dps with a pretty viable build

and pink color coordinated armor, of course

Your resists might make things dicey. I'm running roughly 6.7k armor, 37k health, 12.3k DPS, and 659 min resist (all buffed). Once I pulled my head out of my ass and went back to my hyper-aggressive old faithful build, I picked up a 5-stack a few times and pushed through to the beginning of Betrayer of the Horadrim. A few rare pack fights were 4+ minutes long, but sometimes you just have to suck it up and engage in the long fight.

It's been fun though. There are a few different crit build variations I'd like to try, but I don't see how I can sacrifice an iota of my survivability at this point, so I'm putting them on the backburner.

I'll be interested to hear how your adventures turned out, if you happen to return to this thread.

EDIT - Yes, I know you realize that they're the thing to work on. I was more commenting that it could be even dicier than you'd anticipate.

I plan on doing some streaming tonight. Odds are it's going to be more exploratory than anything, as I certainly don't outgear the place for simple farm. If I used a shield it might be different, but who wants to use a shield?

    Not this guy.

If you're interested, keep an eye on www.twitch.tv/cogbyrn. More than likely it'll consist of a lot of me dying while experimenting with various iterations of my build.
