In general I disagree with the author. Diablo 3 should appeal to all people, not just ones with >5 years gaming experience. The real beginners don't need to and don't want to be confronted with too many choices / information. Of course, these players might not get very far in the game, unless they change. If they do change and use their newly gained knowledge of the game, they will also be smart enough to discover elective mode and advanced tooltips, as well as look up information in the internet. However, I do agree that it should be made more clear that elective mode exists and what it does. (Not that beginners get frustrated at not being able to choose more than one skill from the same skill-group.)

Blizzard isn't dumming down the game. They are making it more accessible. People that complain probably also complain why games where they choose the easiest difficulty are so easy.
Yea I forgot that beginners get so frustrated at anything involving them to read or think that they immediately quit. Was Diablo 2 not accessible? It is a pretty easy mechanic I mean "BOOM you leveled, click this giant red button! Ok great now on the right it clearly says you have x skills and x stats, put them somewhere, done." Now we have "boom you leveled...heres your new skill enjoy".

To be honest. my girl has never been much of a gamer. She played and loved WoW for a while there, but again, wasn't very good at it. She has tried to play Diablo II on several occasions, but could not really get very far into it. Although she really wanted to play it, she just couldn't. Reaction times, skill mechanics, skill choices, all of these played a factor in her' failing' of the game. Now every once in a while, she gets it into her head that she will finally get through the Den of Evil, but always comes out on a stretcher. Why is this, you ask? How is it that this game I can and did play so fluidly, be so hampering to anyone else?

It all boils down to, as gamers, we sometimes take our skill for granted. What seems natural to us, is not so easy for someone just starting out and wanting to actually take advantage of this great medium. Now, upon seeing me play the Diablo III beta, she is adamant that it is much easier to comprehend and pick up and play than Diablo II ever was and she is right. Elite gamers will call this 'dumbed down' if none other than to keep their 'cut above the rest' mentality in tact. Diverse, seasoned gamers see this as accessibility. Love it or hate it, Blizzard has done an excellent job in making this game more accessible and I can think of none of the new mechanics that will hamper my play in any minute way. Thank you for reading.

I call him by his first name, Walter. We go way back, so I can get away with it. I wouldn't suggest any of you guys calling him that, though. He is really sensitive about it.

The solution to this is for you to find another game with people more equally geared as you.

Or quit being a greedy $%^# and group for the social aspects and not how you might benefit from it. I think all this will do is help weed out those people that we really wouldn't want to play with anyway.

EDIT: Not saying that to you specifically, btw. Just generalizing.

The lack of drama & whining in this thread is already disappointing.

    Stay awhile and listen.
