WOOOT Got my key! Guess if you posted before 2 hours or so you should be getting a key soon! Didn't show up online but came through my android app. Good luck guys! I'm off to betaland.

Hmm. No iPhone or Android (or other smartphone) with twitter. Will it not show up at all in your browser, or is it just slow? Retweeted around the 1 hour~ mark, so I'm very curious.

as someone who doesn't use twitter, this is some high-anxiety BS! lol, im not sure if i'm checking in the right place, so i just keep hitting new buttons and refreshing every few minutes, hoping something on the page changes. grats to everybody who got one already.

Hah I'm in the same boat. Just hoping they didn't skip over us Twitter noobs. :P

Same here. But I can't imagine them doing so. It'll look good for their channel regardless, and nothing in their contest page says newbies are exempt.

Perhaps I'm one of those selfish, self-entitled people, but I think the 1000+ dollars I've given blizzard over the years should be enough to earn my beta key...

Indeed, there's only like a couple of millions of people in the same position. What an outrage!

Hey, I already conceded that I was wrong for being egotistical awhile ago. Just had to skip that part, didn't you? :P

On topic. Yes, I think even at 1 hour~ I have better odds than many of the other contests. Wish I had seen it earlier, though. :(

Not enough keys for everyone who gave Blizzard 1000+ dollars over the years to get one.... So get in line.

True enough. Guess I was just being egotistical.

Be nice to get one, but I sincerely doubt I will as I was over an hour late to this.

Am I the only one who is sick of these contest? Perhaps I'm one of those selfish, self-entitled people, but I think the 1000+ dollars I've given blizzard over the years should be enough to earn my beta key...

Can't really be called a PR failure we are still here and desiring the game...

It's absolutely a PR failure. The game should be at the forefront, not the dickweeds behind it.

When you let idiots get on twitter and represent your company, you are going to regret it.

I'll concede that it is PR failure. But those "dickweeds" are told very strictly what they can and cannot say. I'm sure they were outright told to build up hype.

Hell, blame twitter for advocating tiny, insignificant blurbs of text. Stupid social networking. The fall of society isn't going to be nuclear war, it'll be the tweets about imminent nuclear war.

(And sometime after, D3 will be released)

Can't really be called a PR failure we are still here and desiring the game. But it is just PR. They'll jerk us around until they feel enough people are paying attention. It's a lack of integrity on their part. So worried that their game can't stand on it's own, so they need to wait until the optimal time to release concrete information.

The optimal time being when another company releases anything worthwhile.

I think it's done on the basis that on average, people can only afford one major game (50-60 dollar) release a year. Or so I've heard. But if they just gave the release date ahead of time, they'd probably do better, as people would be able to make plans.

They hype up any release of information by giving intentionally misleading twitter posts, then watch as the flood gates open and interpretations and guesses poor out. Only to repeat.

It's no longer about making great games, It's about creating great PR and the money they receive for doing so. The game, the product, is only the means to the end.

I'm getting a bit annoyed, myself. So my cynical posts probably reflect that...

I do think the way they jerk customers and fans around is more than disappointing. Their refusal to give anything substantial before the fact is all for hype. They know when it'll be released, they've probably known for several, if not more, months. But not telling, merely hinting, gets fans to keep checking in on them and builds up excitement. It's blatant manipulation all for the sake of hype.

And for better or worse, it's working. So.. yeah. :P

Certainly works, but it angers and frustrates people as well. It's not exactly the most respectful way to treat their fans and customers.

I've been leaning towards the Demon Hunter for awhile, with my secondary character likely to be a Barb.

But now I'm curious, why is that the DH is considered boring and/or useless? I'm not fortunate enough to be in the beta to see for myself.

I can understand that Melee in the thick of things does feel more involving. Is it that Demon Hunters are less flashy, graphically, than others? Or is there a flaw with their mechanics and damage that I'm unaware of?

Anyone have any insight to offer?

I still don't see what was wrong with Bashioks post. He was 100% correct. There are people that have impossible expectations of the game, that no matter what the final product is, they will be disappointed. This game isn't going to revolutionize the industry; and there isn't anything wrong with that.

He wasn't speaking to everyone excited for the game, saying to lower their expectations because the game is bad. All he said is, "be realistic in your expectations." "No game can be everything, 'everyone' wants." What's wrong with that?

Then Jay comes out with his marketing garbage. That he felt the need to retract a previous- reasonable statement is beyond me.

I think you're mostly looking at it a from a nostalgic point of view. When D1 and D2 were released, they weren't released with the intent of being the best games ever conceived, the great communities the games had is what made them so memorable.

Go into it with the intent of having fun, as you probably did with it's predecessors. Way to much hype is placed on what it will or should be, rather than what it is. It's a game, a form of entertainment. What you get from it is ultimately up to you.

I'm willing to bet (small amounts) that we will see the release date announced during GDC. The statement comes off a bit taunting, which makes me think it's intended to be ironic.

I got one awhile back for the Steam contest achievement in December. My name is Steam Achievement (good luck finding me, annoying family members).

So I'm free to enter contests and NOT get bothered. win / win

Other that that, Never used any of the silly popular social networking things.
