If they have better stats, then it becomes a requirement to have them to stay competitive. They were initially going to give Primals increased stats on Ancients, but instead changed it to perfect Ancient stats instead. I want to believe that Blizzard is trying to cap the power creep and give the players an end to their grind for their best in slot, which I welcome.

If players want the Primals, they're obtainable in non-seasonal. This is in consideration for players who don't allocate as much time in Diablo as some others. Of course, not everyone is going to play meta classes. Correct me if I'm reading the patch wrong, but it should just take ONE character to complete GR 70 in order for Primals to start dropping for all characters. GR 70 is actually not that difficult to accomplish if you're playing non-seasonal, because you will eventually get there. However, if you're playing seasonal I can see why it would be difficult, but if that's the case you should be playing the game frequently enough to be competitive anyway. Your analogy is not entirely accurate. It's more like hiding the $100 bill on the third floor while you're on the first and if you have to climb the stairs a bit to go look for it.
Frequent players appreciate the end to their grind, while non-frequent players complain about having to grind more (even when they don't play very much in the first place).
EDIT: Also, Primals are just nice to have. They're not significantly different from normal Ancients. So it shouldn't be a problem if non-frequent players on seasonal aren't getting them anyway. It's *mostly* the abilities on gear that makes a build competitive, not the raw stats (which is literally the only thing Primals are giving).

But the improved stats would make the Primals an absolute requirement to be competitive on the leaderboards. On top of that, it would just add to the seemingly endless power creep.
