I'd not say complete immunity to aoe effects like plagued, molten or arcane sentry, but a 90% reduction. This way you may still want to have a little control on pets without punishing you too much for not having a pet control feature.

I also would like to see (but the priority is much lower than pet's) reworked some stuff, like chicken hex.

Exactly how would you control your pets without having a pet control feature in your scenario, then? Running far away to get them to pull back out of aoes? That seems like really fun design >_>

if I'm building a tank, why would I need the tankiest pets? Wouldn't I want damage pets? Or, if the only way to make them viable is to be a tank already, then again, what's the point?

I agree with everything you said except this.

Zombie Dogs, especially, is categorized as a "defensive" ability. And it's plenty clear that both Zombie Dogs and Gargantuan are supposed to give the DK a measure of control. They absolutely must scale with defensive stats (and I believe they already do). If you want to build a tank witch doctor then you'll probably not want to take pets. It's really not going to change much.

I just don't see a logical way to make pets scale on the opposite role you take. That's a ton of work for very little reward.

Think you meant WD instead of DK. WoW much? =P

I'm sure there's a way to make pets scale defensively using your offensive stats. For example just off the top of my head, a dodge chance that increases with your crit. Their resists, hp and damage reduction could scale at a scaled rate according to your int, crit damage, attack speed or something along those lines. There are ways to do it and we can only come up with so much before we're doing the devs jobs for them.

Caltrops with Jagged Spikes is probably the biggest LoH contributor, followed by Gas Grenades. Of course only if you can face tank the mobs and don't have to kite them around.

this. Yes. When you have the appropriate defenses, you can face tank most melee mobs (affixes depending) with guardian, 5 caltrops down, cloud and nade spam. The ranged mobs are where it gets obnoxious. I tell you, doing act 3 and 4 with vortex/arcane sentry succubi pissed me off a lot with the build I listed.

"Ranged don't seem to be a problem"

That's because you're in act 1. When you're in act 3 and 4 facing succubi or spearmen with nearly any affix, you're going to find yourself raging a little because they won't stand still and let you life leech with caltrops/cloud. Then their affixes and ranged hits can sometimes randomly gib you. Especially with such low resists. With a build like this, any damage around 20k is sufficient for melee packs in act 3/4 to die without enraging, but you need to be able to survive hits from said elites. Also, with enough defensive stats from gear you don't really need SP/Gloom and can replace it with Cluster or some other big hatred spender to help you burn down mobs because as of right now in that build hatred is essentially a useless resource. You have one hatred spender that is used every two minutes and even then it's an insignificant amount.

I think right now my DH has 23k dps, about 48k~ hp and 600~ resist with 1400 LoH using a build similar to this (cluster/dazzling in place of SP/Gloom and night stalker instead of cull) and I can basically be half asleep clearing act 1 and 2. I'm considering dropping the dazzling rune in favor or a more damage oriented one because in the early acts nothing hits hard enough to warrant the CC anyway. Might try Impale too just for giggles. Cull is definitely a great option for this build (unless you find yourself disc starved like I would against act 3 and 4 ranged packs and Diablo phase 3). Especially if you end up using scoundrel with a cold bow. Even your ranged grenades would be doing more, so that's nice.

I dunno what to list it at on the AH (I did a search with parameters like this and looked for one with a damage range like it and the cheapest one I saw was like 7.5m), but it anyone wants it, just drop an offer. Or if you have opinions on its worth, by all means. I know there's no crit =( but it's got an ok damage range, heh.

Ok so I am bored this morning and i found a handbow with like 500+ something loh. I don't recall seeing anyone post about using bombs unless its with a huge crit damage setup. So this morning I switched all my monks gear to test it out. This is what I wanted my Dh to do when the game first came out but inferno in the later acts it was almost impossible. However I am now able to at least farm a1 with this setup.

So I cant post links yet.. sorry for the list of skills.

Bombs+cluster bombs, lots of hits for lots of loh
Cluster Arrow+Cluster Bombs with the passives I can get 4 cluster shots of and do a incredible amount of damage. With grenadier passive, my hatred comes back super fast also.
Smokescreen+lingering fog allows me to use it if i get in trouble and get some life back while not taking damage
Companion+bat rune which is a must to get up hatred for cluster bombs
Preperation+battle scars for a much needed heal.
Shadowpower+bloodmoon for a better chance of getting life back

    Important stats atm are.
    Resists 554
    LOH 1490
    DPS 18912
    crit damage 122%

So what do you think I could add or do to make it better? Like I said I havent seen much out there besides the ranged builds so I thought it be cool to give bombs a try again. I love the bombs!

Get more damage as you have dmg of a DH that just hit 60 ....

I beat Inferno Diablo with about that much dps and LoH with some more resists and 50k hp. Took a long time, but I tanked him using a grenade build with cluster arrows/dazzling, gas grenades, prep/heal rune, caltrops/jagged, sentry/guardian and chakram cloud (numbing, custom engineering and nightstalker were passives)

I'm not even very good at avoiding his things and I still got him down using that build and dps, so it's possible. Only things I had issues with were the act 4 elites unless they were melee packs without the more annoying affixes for the build (sentry, fire chains, nightmarish). The ranged ones suuuccckkkkk with that build unless they're easy affixes anyway. Most things were tankable with 5 caltrops down, cloud up and guardian up (other than sentries and fire chains all up on your face). But Act 1 & 2 are pretty much faceroll with it. I was falling asleep at the keyboard doing an act 2 run the other night and still couldn't die.

I'll give you 1k gold for it.

But you'll probably get more for vendoring it (or, if that level unique can drop the unique mat).

Also, who at Blizzard thought reducing ZC mana cost by 3 mana was a good idea? It costs 140 some mana. Sure, it means we can cast 2% more in a given time frame, but since no one has enough mana to cast more than 15-20 at a time, it's not really worth it. Even the max of 7 mana is really not worth it, as that doesn't even get us up to 5% more. Also, reducing cost is boring. If it increased range or width, that'd be awesome, and not the exact same as every other skill modifier.

Are you honestly surprised about this, though? When looking at how piss poor the inferno testing was with pets and the total lack of useful nukes outside of friggin melee range.

I wish I didn't see that stupid girl's face half the time when I pop on to the news page.

The Monk challenge was pretty impressive, though. It gives me hope for whenever I get around to leveling mine. Which is probably more likely to happen now that I've seen this. And because I'm bored with farming on DH right now

Seriously, people who think they're amazing at the AH (and perhaps even are) shouldn't be playing an hack and slash ARPG, they should fucking go play the stock market.

The game isn't "Wall Street Online" it's Diablo 3.

If Wall Street Online existed and Charlie Sheen was the narrator, I'd play it.

Probably next patch. Who knows, though. I'm waiting for WDs to be able to use more than just splinters builds to be effective solo. I want a damned effective firebombs and pet build already!

In the meantime I'm just making a killing selling these million gold items I keep finding and improving my DH.

I dropped Elemental Arrow entirely. People are really stuck on the skill. Don't get me wrong..it has plenty of uses, but we have so many other viable options that hardly anyone even looks at.

    http://us.battle.net...XPVh!aTe!bcZYcb

The build requires more precise play so is not for everyone, but allows you to use smoke screen as an aggressive ability alongside Fan of Knives to pull of some impressive nukes. In fact I can outright destroy all non-shielding champion packs in infinitely faster than I could with the IAS+Nether Tentacle pre-nerf build.

Grenadier as a passive is a great alternative for archery or sharpshooter depending on your gear. Additionally you can swap the Cluster Rune to something else like Loaded for Bear.

With sufficient vit+resist all you can drop SS for Shadow Power (Gloom) for a more efficient use of discipline.

How do I survive without caltrops or some form of slow? Use the scoundrel with Multishot and a cold weapon. It's more or less a permanent aoe slow. You also have enough burst to destroy reflecting mobs while SS is up (just make sure you read affixes before you fire off some huge damage and kill yourself)

There is huge burst potential with spike traps and you can set them up prior to pulling a pack. Afterwards simply Cluster->Evasive->Cluster->Smoke Screen/Run in for a FoK. If mobs aren't dead simply evasive fire out and they will die shortly after.

I totally changed my gear setup for 1.03 and am able to farm acts 1-4 as good if not better than I could prior to the "nerfs"

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Most people will hate this build, but hopefully a few enjoy it. Enjoy!

Here is a video I came across with the build in action:

I'd been seeing that build here and there, but I was uncertain of the tactics to use with it. Now that I see it in action I might give it a go. The one thing I couldn't really figure out though was the actual use of cluster, though. It seemed like most of his damage was coming from evasive and trap even on the boss.

edit: Well, I gave it a shot (no pun intended) and I really enjoyed it. Just walked all over act 1 for a trial run of learning it. Even more surprisingly I adapted to the playstyle fairly quickly. Maybe I was meant for this kind of sprinting around and bombing things haha

Some dev probably just said "Change the set bonus to increase discipline regeneration 'to' 2 per second" and the person who performed the change didn't understand and thought it meant to leave the mechanism as is, but increase the number to 2.

idc, not like I can afford a nat's set anyway so it doesn't affect me in the least.

Ehhh, I wouldn't say a break from the game, just a break from progressing on my WD. It's so disappointing because I love many of the skills they have, but the ones I enjoy the most don't make for useful builds. At all. At least beyond Hell. Firebomb is my favorite by far, but it doesn't exactly work well as far as I've been able to tell in Inferno. I wanted a pet class, but that hasn't exactly worked out well either. The presence of some of the greatest CC and escape abilities is nice, but I didn't want to have to kite endlessly to be even somewhat effective. I was hoping to have my pets tank for me while I pick away at the mobs. Command my pets strategically and whatnot.

For now, I'm leveling the other classes, seeing what I like. Once I have each class to 60, I dunno. I might do some hardcore after that. Or if at that point the difficulty curve actually represents a smooth line as opposed to this smooth line leading to the face of a cliff, I'll continue Inferno on whichever class I decide to play primarily.
