This is very simple, so please stop trolling eachother.

Hydras fire many many times before they die, so their base damage % has to be fairly low to begin with in order for it's damage to not be absurd. If a hydra fires ten times, it can't deal 300% weapon damage like some other spells, that would be a total damage output of 3000%! Further, a lot of those with slightly reduced damage are AOE, so that number would be even more insanely high.

So in a short one-sentence summary: fires many times, most are AOE so they hit several targets, and it lasts for a while = damage value per attack can't be huge.

    Basic math, people.

This is not WoW mr. panda.
DoTs in D3 have to be much more powerful, as they see far little use, and often expire far before the set time.

    Basic logic >> oversimplified math

And that has NOTHING to do with the terrible rune choices either...ya know the topic.

As you can see, 4 of 6 are AoE. 2 of the AoE keep creating stationary damage areas, covering lots of area. The other 2 shoot projectile AoE. THe last 2 are single target, one being an upgrade of the other. I see nothing wrong here.
1-6% is hardly an upgrade...its not even worth the effort of putting an expensive rune in.

you do know that you cannot dodge shocks? it is auto hit so basically you get a small increased in damage but the key is that the attack that cannot be dodged, similar to storm armor. hence, i see a lot of reason why it is worth the effort of putting an rune in.

basic logic > oversimplified math > basic research. do your research.

Or, perhaps, in stead of making an inhibition on skill swapping, that effectively debuffs or removes me from combat, just let us switch out skills on the fly.

but wouldn't that take out the uniqueness of each character totally?

since each skill have 7 ranks, blizzard can add a +1 rank bonus for a "favorite" build the player customized, while players are still able to switch between builds.

I don't think the skills have ranks, I believe you are thinking about rune ranks. Is this what you really meant?

Most skills are based off weapon damage and I assume otherwise they scale with the character's level.

yea sorry, thats what i meant.

since each skill have 7 ranks, blizzard can add a +1 rank bonus for a "favorite" build the player customized, while players are still able to switch between builds.

for example, a level 60 player with all rank 7 skills can customize a "favorite" build. when you select that build, all skills are given a bonus of +1 rank, and hence rank 8 skills.

the "favorite build" can be altered, but with a cooldown ( 1 day, 2 day, etc).

players can still switch to any other builds, but whether in combat or in town is up for discussion.

in conclusion, a "favorite" build have the potential to have rank 8 skills and hence be slightly more powerful than a "non-favorite" build with the same skills.

this allows players to try different builds but also maintain a sense of uniqueness.

this is just an idea to fix the skill swapping issue. it might be a bad idea but at least the intention is good, so please no flaming!

Guess you could always go back to town if you run into mobs that are hard to kill. Maybe Rune Blizzard or Meteor in case, or something.

haha you are right, but i always have the urge to build a pure lightning/arcane/fire build.. probably not the most effective of course.

Interesting build but I think it lacks another damage type. Sure, Blizzard stated that there wont be any immunities but there will still be resistances. Probably changing one rune or offensive spell in order to have two types of damage (arcane + x) would make your build more flexible in the higher difficulties.

This isnt meant to be rude but Slow Time with this kind of glyph (+Cast Speed) in combination with Teleport isnt a sensible choice. You need to stand within your (cooldown-based) bubble most of the time or it is simply useless. Teleport wont help you in this case because of the relatively small size of the bubble compared to the range of Teleport.

Overall I like your second, more offensive-orientated build more. One Signature spell plus two main offensive spells look really nice. :)

thanks for the input! i just want to point out that i purposely choose the slow time( stretch time) over other runestones solely on the characteristic of arcane nova. since arcane nova is itself short range, that means, it would not make any difference if it requires you in the bubble. suppose if i use slow time, teleport out, my arcane nova is unlikely to be in range to hit anyways. you see what i mean, or is there something i did not recognize?

Arcane Nova Build ( Utility and Control)

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#aeSQOi!bdf!aYaYbb

    Active Skills

*Magic Missile ( Seeker)- main single damage spell while regening AP with tracking ability.
***Arcane Orb ( Arcane Nova)- the key spell for high damage burst and aoe. roughly 10 cast spam before out of AP.
*Slow Time ( Stretch Time)- keep this up whenever possible for increased cast speed magic missile, or save it with a arcane nova spam combo. with evocation, roughly 13 second gap between each slow time. effect applies as long as the caster is in the bubble.
*Energy Armor ( Energy Tap)- combine with astral presence for 160 max arcane power.
*Familiar ( Arcanot)- regen AP, even more effective with 160 max AP.
*Teleport ( Reversal)- can be use both defensive or offensive ( teleport close to a enemy-> slow time -> spam arcane nova-> reverse teleport).

    Passive Skils

*Temporal Flux- magic missile ( seeker) and arcane nova can maintain a constant snare on enemy for more survivability and control.
*Astral Presence- combine with energy armor ( energy tap) allows 160 max AP.
*Evocation- lowers CD on slow time and teleport for more survivability and control.

    About the build

160 max AP with a roughly 19~ AP regen per second at lvl 60 with rank 7 runes, passive, and without gears.

Assuming cast speed for arcane nova is 1 second, 35 AP- 19 AP regen per second allows you to spam roughly 9~10 arcane novas before out of AP.

Assuming cast speed for arcane nova is 0.5 second, 70 AP- 19 AP per second allow you to spam 6 arcane novas in 3 second before out of AP. This could work well with teleport ( reversal) combo.

In the second case, after 3 second of spamming arcane nova, you can just teleport to safety, spam arcane missile for AP until teleport ( reversal) is up, and repeat.

    Arcane Nova Build ( Damage)

    http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#aeRQOi!bdc!aYaYbb

In short, swap slow time ( stretch time) with hydra ( arcane hydra). Also swap evocation with prodigy.

    About the build

Similar to the first build, this allows more damage when we swap an utility spell for an offensive spell. Since there is only one CD spell, in addition to the heavy AP consuming hydra, we want to take prodigy over evocation. Furthermore, this offers a better snare chance with hydra shooting out arcane orbs.

Thank you everyone for reading :) feel free to share opinions but no flaming please!
