One thing people often overlook is the damage absorbtion Zombie Dogs rune. You would obviously ignore it if you run with Sacrifice, but otherwise I would say a free passive %10 damage aborbtion would be a nice extra layer of protection.

Also, FWIW, I would avoid ANY melee-range build until you're comfortable with your survivability. The risk of dying just to see some big numbers is NOT worth it.

I just watched a few videos of the Cloud of Bats build and seriously do not understand the appeal. Sure the DPS is incredible, but the playstyle is BORING. You literally run in and body-pull stuff to you (or use Pestilence), stand still and spam RMB until everything is dead, loot and move on. I am not saying the build is worthless, just that the playstyle, to me, takes all the fun out of the class. In fact, it reminds me of the "Hammerdin" build from D2.

Amazing work, Jaetch. Even though I play a WD, I found some useful information out of this. My GF, however, will love you long time for it! Thanks for all of your contributions to the D3 community, Jaetch!

I use a Flaming Spiders / Acid Cloud build. I like to stay at range, so no Zombie Bears or Cloud of Bats. I spam AC until most are dead, then pick off the rest with the spiders. Not a big fan of zerging a map so I take it nice and slow and have fun.

I also like to have my pets out for support/absorbtion, so that means Humongoid and the 10% damage absorbtion Zombie Dogs. The other skills are Spirit Walk and Soul Harvest.

For passives, I use Gruesome Feast, Jungle Fortitude and Grave Injustice.

posted a message on Kotaku's take on the D3 console port
I am probably part of the minority that's actually excited about the Playstation port. I remember playing the original Diablo on the PSX, with my best friend, some Mtn. Dew, pizza, and long conversations about all kinds of teenage stuff. They were some of the best times of my life and I'd give almost anything to re-live them again.

The games of today, the gaming culture of today, and the way we play the games of today never, ever have the same appeal to me. I may be getting old, I may be a part of a "dead culture", or whatever, but I just cannot fathom blowing tons of money on constant PC upgrades, waiting on patches, Googling ways to tweak my OS or hunting for drivers just to TRY to have the same experience. I could win the lottery tomorrow and build the best PC in the world and yet would still be unsatisfied. Gaming, to me, was meant to be played with friends, on the couch.

posted a message on Upgrade me, please!
Hello, fellow wizards! I need some tips to fix my wizard. She does decent DPS in MP0 (around 140K fully-buffed), but I know she can do better. I only have 500K to my name right now so my budget is extremely tight at the moment. Any general recommendations for things to look for, tweak, upgrade? I don't like using Energy Twister so I try to avoid that, but I'm open to everything else! Thanks for reading. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/profile/bjoswald-1589/hero/30907193

Finally, a guide that isn't about CMWW or Archon!

Always been a Cold/Lightning kind of mage (in many other RPG's too), so I am eager to try this out. I hope it's viable with all gear types because I am not even 60 yet.

    Thanks for the guide!

Thanks for the tips! To be honest, I haven't used my followers in quite some time, but I guess now is the perfect time to get them up-to-date. I only kept the scoundrel around because of his funny dialogue and his AoE poison damage (to supplement my own).

About the crit damage/chance ... I have no excuse. I guess I got caught up in the survivability stats that I overlooked them.

posted a message on Need tips for Inferno farming
    Hello,

I have been 60 for a little while now and I'm happy with my class, but as always, improvements need to be made. I don't do anything super serious (Infernal Machine, Hardcore, etc), I just like to farm with people on Battle.Net and/or run alone. My budget is very, very small at the moment (gearing up GF's characters) but I am willing to farm for a lot of money if I have to.

What I'm looking for is an ideal build for my playstyle and gear type. I'll link my character so you can see what I'm working with.

    Thanks!

posted a message on Diablo 3 is a very good game
It's ok, but it has limited replayability and no long-term longevity. After Normal mode, there's little reason to continue other than the mindless pursuit of better loot. However, the loot system in D3 is similar to Torchlight; 98% of the loot you find is worthless.

Another mindless mistake is making elite mobs tougher than bosses, and giving them the best loot tables. I may be old school but I always thought the big boss at the end of the dungeon was supposed to carry the best stuff. I think I know why Blizzard did this, but at the same time, I believe they shot themselves in the foot. Who cares if people will farm bosses? That's what the game is about. We're supposed to work together and plow through a dungeon to the end, right? Well then why would they make us run around a graveyard, looking for goblins and a rare zombie or two? On top of that, why make the elite mobs the most annoying things in the game? It burns people out and takes the fun out of the game.

I know I left out the Auction House (which defeats the entire purpose of the game), but that's been beaten to death and I don't use it anyway.

This is what I've been using for NM. I just started, but it has been working amazingly well. I usually play alone because I like to explore/level at my own pace, but I have included support skills for when I feel like playing with others. Feel free to critique!

posted a message on Is anyone else tired of the complainers?
The first rule of ANY Blizzard game is to never, ever visit the forums. Blizzard makes amazing games but their community is one of the worst. It's been that way since the beginning of time and it probably won't ever change. Avoiding the forums removes about 95% of the whining.

Also, don't let others tell you what class to play. Try them all. When you find one you like, play it and enjoy it. The game is barely a week old and yet everyone pretends they work for Blizzard and coded the game.

One more thing: If leveling feels too "grindy" for you, try to mute to music/sound and play something in the background. I have found that when I do this, I'll zone out and end up blasting through quests. MST3K works well. ;)
