I have played this game over all the seasons, and have made some experiences myself. If there might be too much information for you to handle, if you experience the overall is overwhelming, I'd suggest you go for a "slow" character.
In S5, I wanted to try the earth barb myself, and was just too overwhelmed. Jumping ALL over the place was just not for me. For me, it sums up to be in controll over my character. WD with pets is a safe bet.
