After reading a couple of posts here in the off topic area about forum users building their own pcs, I wondered how much I could build one for that would run d3 very well, but cost the least amount of coin.

You're asking for a PC that runs D3 very well, which i assume means ultra graphics. At the same time you're asking for a cheap PC. So i'm a little confused but i'll tell you what i would buy.
You don't need to spend much on most parts but the video card if you want ultra graphics. Even tho a dual core would do the job, they are out-dated and you can get a cheap quad core processor with amazing performance which i will include in my parts list.

That build is overkill for diablo3. I'm sure you can run it on max settings.
Other than that there is DIY kits on newegg. Here's the one i suggest;
You just need to add a video card to this kit and you're ready to game.
So, it's a little hard to tell you what to buy or what not to buy. Since i don't know your budget at all. Personally thats what i would go for if i had a 616$ budget. Other than that there is even cheaper Kits you can buy and had a video card of your choice into it. Check newegg DIY kits and tigerdirect barebones.
