Oh... and a large tower shield in D3 taking up the same amount of space as a dagger or short sword?...I didn't mind the old tetris style inventory system D1 and D2 had now come to think of it...as D3 is just a lil too unrealistic in my views....just sayin'

posted a message on D3 Paper doll Inventory
This is not my post...but I couldn't agree more...

    Paper doll is too small

I was lucky enough to play the DIII beta for one day and I highly enjoyed it except for one thing that stuck out like a soar thumb, which I believe to be a serious design flawn in the interface. It appears that the item icons, especially the paper doll, are WAY too small. By the way it looks, it seems like Blizzard really went out of its way to make the paper doll as small and compact as they possibly could, almost as if they believe this to be one of those nagging, intrusive aspects of the game that "takes away" from killing monsters, which is simply ridiculous.

I can understand why they made the icons appear small in the inventory, as this is the best way to allow the player to conserve inventory space and avoid "inventory tetris" (something that actually DID distract from the gameplay in previous Diablo games). However, the whole inventory screen could easily be extended by 50%. They have SO much screen space to work with and they chose to squish the inventory screen against the side to make it as small as they could. While I can appreciate why they resorted to small inventory icons, I see no reason whatsoever to make the paper doll icons so small too. I’m really hoping that blizzard increases the size of the paper doll icons, or at least gives the player the option to toggle the size of the inventory screen.

Why does this bother me so much? A few reasons.

Firstly, the game revolves around items. As a player I will be spending a huge amount of time looking at my items, working with them, socketing, switching them, seeing how their stats relate to each other and experimenting with many different setups within a short time frame. The paper doll is not some side thing that belongs in the background, but an integral part of the game which demands a lot of attention. Why then does Blizzard insist on giving us these tiny icons to work with? Why not make the paper doll big and beautiful like it was in previous diablo games? For the life of me I simply cannot come up with a reason for why they shrunk it so much. I have a 24" screen and 20/20 vision and I actually have to strain my eyes to see some of the items on my paper doll. So considering the central role that the paper doll plays in the game, it makes no sense to make the icons so small. Also, the "zoom in on your character when inventory screen is opened" does not solve this problem at all.

Secondly, the item artwork was one of my favorite things about Diablo 2. I simply loved to open my inventory and see all the cool gear that my character was wearing, and take it all in. I loved seeing all the detail in the armors and weapons without having to strain my eyes. The big and beautiful item artwork in D2 also made it more fun for me to item hunt because it made me appreciate the items more.

So, while I can appreciate why they made the inventory icons small and compact, I still think the entire inventory screen can be significantly increased in relative size (without changing the number of inventory slots) and the paper doll MUST be increased in size. The way it is right now is simply illogical. Other than this one design flaw, the game appears to be awesome. I don't have a beta key so I am unable to post my observations in Blizzard's official forum, so if any beta testers reading this agree with me feel free to repost this on Blizzard's forum.

posted a message on Item/Loot Tier drop graphics in beta so far?
    Hi all,

Now before you start to post replies to this topic around the whole "ooohhh not another graphics/visual complaining thread again" just here me out.

Been playing the Open beta recently and Iv'e noticed at all levels of the game whenever loot drops for example, armor, the drop graphic on the floor (before picking it up) looks the same for all tiers of armor??. What I'm trying to say is if a low level crude material chest armor falls, i.e like a etched jacket or a crude basic cloak, the graphic all looks like a shiny superior high tier plate armor on the floor until you pick it up ?? Whats with that?

every item that drops all have the same graphics depending on what the item is. I just dont like the graphical representation of a pair of leather gloves on the floor looking like a shiny pair of high tier plate gaunlets.

Will they change the graphics for the final build of the game to make it more detailed and realistic?
Are there any posts like this wanting the same thing or any posts on the official feedback forums?

    opinions?

Ok, we need to know if there are any official word on a ANZ/SEAOceana server we will play on???? I hope we do in time for release so our game speeds are all good with no lag...I mean if Blizzard decided to make an Online single player game option I expect it to be smooth as! I still strongly believe there should be an offline single player mode....but aw well....too late now...Apparenlty in order for us to have a midnight release EB needs to have a minimum of 100 pre orders of the game.

I think it is very unlikely we will get servers based in NZ or Australia prior to release. As for the midnight release surely EB have more pre-orders then that already?

Maybe so...but EB said EACH STORE must have at least 100 preorders for that particular store to have a midnight release. For example....if an EB store in Sydney has 100 preorders, that store alone will hold a midnight release, if a store in newcastle or the nearsest Westfield only have 88 preorders etc. it won't have a midnight release.

    Quote from Malminos™

I know we've had threads like this before, but with the release fresh in all our brains i figure everyone is probably finalizing their plans.

For me, i've been saving PTO for about a year, so i can have 2 weeks straight just to play the hell out of this game. I'll get it on a tuesday, then wait till friday for my PTO to start, so i have 2 full weeks of uninterrupted demon slaying. During that time, i'm thinking lots of unhealthy stuff. I've got a bottle of mead one of my pals got me for xmas i've been saving for D3 so i'll dig into that. Then of course the usual faire, pizza, snacks, etc. mixed in with an occasional walk so i dont turn to gelatin, hang out with girlfriend time, but i plan on putting in 40 hours a day, build a character or two up to inferno, and try my hand at the RMAH.

I'll have a designated napping area in my house, to occasionally take naps throughout the day - I find i get the funnest and have the best gaming experience right after waking from a nap. So theres mead, pizza, naps, sodas in the fridge, maybe some beers, and maybe i'll get some REALLY good sandwich ingredients and try to get my GF to make me some sammiches during my D3 break (which she knows is my "special edition" vacation aka: my special ed vacation), And yeah, that's my gig. Been planning it for TOO long.

    Anyone else?

    40hrs a day??? What...you live on Mars??

My build will be able to knock back enemies and keep knocking them back! Also increasing the change of critical hits and increased damage. This build will best suit pvp.

It would have to be the Paladin! Maybe calling him something different like Knight, or Crusade or even Templar and introduce the D2 Barbarian as the follower the replace the Templar in D3! Make the Barbarian be your helper to bash and crush enemies! Diablo 3 in my opion is missing that "Valor" character. That Heavenly warrior of light "Not the Monk" (Monk is more spirital based). A melee based Character with Epic Shields and defence capability, able to also use Lances and spears and has epic shiny armour. A true hero against the burning hells.
