posted a message on When do weapon effects count?
I tried out the open beta last weekend and it brought up a question for me. If my weapon has cold damage, is that added to my skills or does it only work on a normal attack? Also, is it added to all skills, or just to certain skills? For example, it makes sense to me that it would not add to the Witch Doctor's poison dart since he/she does not use the weapon for that skill. However, it seems that it should add for the Barbarian's cleave since his/her weapon is used for that one.

Any knowledge on the matter is greatly appreciated.

It does not bother me any. If I am level 60 and cruising around in Inferno with three other players, I don't really care how they got their characters as long as they play well. If they don't play well, I just won't play with them anymore. Doesn't the new Battle.net have better friend options now anyway? I see myself playing with the same people a lot, so I am not sure how this will create a bad effect. And like someone else said earlier, if I run out of character slots, it is nice to know that I can at least make a few bucks instead of just deleting a character.

posted a message on Rune Effects - Leap Attack
What if instead of leaping over the monsters, he leaps through them as an attack? He could even have an element attached to it, kind of like M. Bison's lightening screw attack. It would be a little like Whirlwind I suppose, but they could keep it different enough by not allowing it to be continuous like whirlwind.

posted a message on Capture the Flag, Nox style
I think that too much emphasis is being placed on movement skills. I was very successful at Nox CtF as a conjurer. The warriors had much better movement skills, but I was able to use the conjurers skills to capture the flag quite often. Something that might make it a deal-breaker though is that in Nox there were some skills that could kill you with a single hit. That made it a good challenge to get to the flag and also to get back with it. I don't know if any of the Diablo 3 skills will have the ability to kill someone with just one or two hits. If so though, I think it could really work.

Also, it is okay if one class tends to be the offensive class more than another. Other classes will do better at defense, and it is nice for the game to be a team effort rather than everyone chaotically trying to get the flags at the same time.

Yeah, I guess calling it a Diablo clone might have been a misnomer. I still think that they are similar though. It was interesting in the capture the flag games that people naturally gravitated towards positions that their character class did well in. The wizards usually took over defense, setting traps all over the place, while the warriors charged and took on the offence. I liked to play as a conjurer and have living traps follow me around that would teleport my enemies to random locations if they got to close to me. Sometimes the matches would be supper fast because of the charge skill of the warriors like Ophion is pointing out, but it was best out of five before they would switch up teams. I loved it, and still consider it the best multiplayer experience I have had with a game similar to Diablo. I am totally psyched for the Arena matches, but I think it is nice to have a variety of options for multiplayer.

Did anyone ever play Nox? It was a great Diablo clone by Westwood before EA bought and destroyed Westwood. Anyway, while I loved the game, I still think that Diablo was better, except that Nox had an amazing capture the flag multiplayer mode. You could play with up to 32 people (16 on each team), great big maps, some great fast paced action. Westwood had a great ladder ranking, but of course it all got shut down by EA.

So I know that there is no capture the flag planned for Diablo 3, but I hope it is something they consider for the future expansions. I am just curious, did anyone ever play the Nox capture the flag? Do you think it could work with Diablo 3?

    Quote from Ophion

WoW is not an Action RPG, it is an MMORPG.

Ophion, normally your comments are my favorite to read because you make such good points. In this one though, I have to disagree. The mmo describes the fact that lots of people can play together at once. However, the gameplay is still action rpg. I suppose if we really wanted to describe it accurately, we could call it an MMOARPG, or even better, MMOTPARPG: massively multiplayer online third-person action role playing game. There are other MMO games that are not Action RPGs, but that does not take away the fact that in every way, WoW plays like an Action RPG.

I know I am not the only person here who gets annoyed by the constant comparisons of Diablo and WoW. I would like to point out that Diablo was a franchise long before World of Warcraft. And please do not argue that WoW is part of the Warcraft RTS franchise, two completely different genres. Of course Diablo and WoW are going to have similarities. They are both fantasy action rpg's. However, Blizzard is not known for making cookie cutter games, and will do everything it can to maintain the differences between the two franchises, if nothing else, to keep them individual. Diablo has never been a first or third person view game. It probably never will be. Isometric view has a very different feel and the gameplay is greatly affected by the view. It is one of the reasons that Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is my favorite Zelda game. I prefer the classic isometric view. Ocarina of Time and the Zelda games that have followed have all been great, but I personally don't like the gameplay as well. I really believe that if you changed the view, it would completely change the gameplay, and that is something I really don't want to see. There is a reason Diablo 2 is my current favorite game, and I am hoping that Diablo 3 can take its place. If I want a third-person action rpg I will start playing WoW.

Awesome! Thanks for the video. I think I will still miss trying to find some rare rune, but there will be plenty of other rare items to look for. That video was great for getting me pumped up for the new skills though.

posted a message on Only 5 runes?
In the recent charged bolt end game thread, there was a statement made that each skill would only have 5 rune variants. I know that 5 different ways to modify one skill is actually pretty cool, but does that mean there are only 5 different runes in the game? I had kind of envisioned working hard to find that really rare rune that would really make my favorite skill just amazing. If there are only five total runes though, it kind of makes it seem like there is not much to strive for. Or does anyone know if the runes will have varying levels like the gems? Cause I could see myself working hard to get the high level version of my favorite rune.

Oh well, I guess I will have to keep playing it with one. I wish more people would try out dual monitors with their computers. I consider it the best upgrade I have ever made to my computer. It is more useful than most people imagine. Thanks for finding that quote Ophion.

Hey everyone, I recently discovered diablofans and am loving it. I had an idea that I have been mulling around, and searched for it in the forum and did not find anything, so I hope this is not a repost of sorts. Anyway, I would love if Blizzard would integrate dual monitor support for D3. I don't see that it would ever be necessary, but I would love to have my inventory open on one screen and be able to play on the other. Does anyone know if this is possible, or something that Blizzard has maybe considered?
