Back before the corruption of the Cathedral, there was a pet shop dealer that lived out of a carriage next to the Cathedral. The man was friendly with the townsfolk and was quite fond of the young boy in town, Wirt. The pet dealer was not able to make much of a living there, as there was nobody really willing to buy his pets.

The pet dealer decided to move closer to Caldium, where there was more of a populace. As he started to pack his things for the long haul to Caldium, Wirt stopped by. Wirt was confused and asked why he had to leave, the pet dealer told Wirt that the business was not doing so well, and he needed more people around to buy things. As the pet dealer was packing up, he came across his most prized possession, his frog. As a token of remembrance, the pet dealer gave the frog to Wirt and asked him to take special care of him. Wirt agreed, and with a heavy heart wished the pet dealer well.

Wirt cared deeply for his frog. He decided to name his frog, but struggled with a name. The frog seemed very fond of binkies, and so Wirt named him Binkles. Binkles the frog remained Wirt's pet until his ultimate demise. Binkles still remains in Sanctuary today, waiting for a new owner.

Binkles wasn't always a frog; he came from a different origin…

With the aftermath of the battle between Anu and Tathamet, the High Heavens and the Burning Hells were created. The crystal eye of Anu became the Worldstone, but what is not told of, is the scale of Tathamet which became a creature with the ability to shape shift. This creature attached itself to the Worldstone and remained dormant for many years.

When Inarius and Lilith stole the Worldstone and created Sanctuary, the creature came out of hiding and took the form of the human. This creature was a very conniving evil thing, and tried to earn the trust of all he came in contact with, just so he could crush that trust with some form of mischief. The people of Sanctuary nicknamed him Binkles, because of his gracious attitude in doing small favors to earn the trust of others.

When King Leoric came to Sanctuary, Binkles tried very desperately to get in good with him. King Leoric allowed Binkles to be his butler. Binkles then subtly persuaded King Leoric to invade the Cathedral. Binkles knew that he could draw the evil of the Burning Hells from there, and had King Leoric doing his dirty work.

Adria the witch caught on to Binkles' plan and hexed him. Binkles, now a harmless frog, could now do nothing to assist in the efforts in the Cathedral. Binkles was now cursed with having to watch as all of his plans were thwarted by the heroes of Sanctuary.

As of today, Binkles still roams the world of Sanctuary waiting for his curse to be lifted so that he can once again bring forth the evils of the Burning Hells.
