posted a message on Urgent, Need a new game!
The only game thats ever captivated me as much as d1/d2 is dota and iv been playing it since sa had death ward, over 6 years. Then with the release of Heroes Of Newerth beta, wich is a very inventive port onto the sacred engine iv moved on and never looked back. You couldnt pick a better time to learn how to play one of the greatest rts' ever and hands down the strongest co-operative rts ever. With a online system that includes rankings, major leaver penalties and server side game hosting, all the big fallbacks of dota are gone.

The game is nearing its release so if you cant get your hands on a beta key, you can purchase one for $20 that will still be active once the game goes live. A word of caution however, it takes a long, long time to master even the most basics of this game so if your a slow learner, dont like hundreds of hours of researching tactics and watching replays or just generally not in for the long haul dont bother.

I enjoyed your comment about the middle ages, I was only using it for effect not in a literal sense. As I feel you are non literally chopping ones head off.

As I said in the post, those that have then presented a rebuttle to his comment have had their comments removed. atleast 2 that I have witnessed, that have in every single technicallity stayed within your posting rules. They have adressed his comment because they have taken OFFENSE. You have oppressed their opinion, Only because you do not like it.

I feel I have wrapped my head around your rules. I realise Its foolish to try and test your rules, as you firmly beleive in the benefit of them. However it is the first time Iv encounterd such rules in a forum so it is only naturall, to revert back to the reasoning of why other forums do not incorperate these rules.

From now on I must hold my tongue and not try to inject my humour into my posts, because really, Im just a big bully making everybody feel unpleasent in the elementary school playground.

Looks like its time for me to go back to 4chan where I can offend other users, troll threads and post false information till my heart is content.

gosh i was trying to edit my post and by the time I had the thread was locked. Please do delete it since its falling on such death ears, and to excuse me opening another thread.

What I was editing the post to say, was that you infact violate your own rules with the postage of Gus Mastrapa's article. To quote the violation withen the article "Let's just get this out of the way. The people worried about the look of "Diablo III" being too colorful are idiots. They're straight-up wrong" Firstly it violates your flaming policy.

To quote you on your rule "'Flaming' refers to any deliberate attempt to insult or demean other users, staff, people, or groups of people (on or off the boards). " Clearly this article deliberately attempts to insult and demean other users/people/groups of people by making a derogatory statements regarding people of lesser fortune / ability.

To quote your argumentative rule "Arguing is a conflict between numerous differing opinions wrought with illogical and/or irrelevant exchange, a lack of proper evidence, and innapropriate or impolite animosity" this is violated by his argumentative premis "They're straight-up wrong".

Then ontop of this, many people who have made REBUTTLES to his argument that have in all technicallity stayed within your rules, have had their posts deleted.

How can a forum that violates its own rules justify enforcing these same rules?

posted a message on Forum rules are a joke
Until recently I did not take the time to read the forum rules, however after several of my posts were deleted, I decided to further investigate.
What I have found has shocked me. The rules you impose over this forum are oppressive to say the least. diablofans provides great information and is a great site, but you'v taken these forums back to the middle ages.

In the last 10 years iv taken part in countless forums and Iv held a moderating position ( not getting on a high horse just explaining I have a sound knowledge of forums and forum communities ) and never have I seen such absolutely rediculous rules.

I mean permanent bans being a punishment for lying?permanent bans for illegal drug talk? this is absolutely absurd. no flaming....... this......... wtf? no flaming??? Permanent bans for arguing???LOL!and your moderaters opinion is what draws the line between a argument and a debate or truth and lie..... you need to get your heads in the real world. You might have the right to moderate these forums in a way that completely limits free speech but clearly that is a huge mistake.

Your forums are almost completely void of character or humour, I mean your funny picture thread died within a few months. Granted your forums ARE full of much more intelligent conversation than most.

I can understand your rules on warez and spam, but no cussing? Diablo has and Im sure will continue to be a mature rated game, so why in diablo forum are you restricting these things? What is the internet coming to? its now the responsibilty of everybody on the internet, except parents/legal gaurdians of these children, to protect them from adult or innapropriate content.

I really cant get my head around these rules, beyond that blizzard makes you abide them and rewards you with virgin lipped bashiok and tickets to blizzcon. Im sure you have no intentions of changing your rules, as Im sure your quite convinced these rules improve the quality of your forums,
but they dont. Its a pitty that a site thats information/wiki etc is so top notch, has a forum that is so backwards and censored. People in wow have more rights than people on your forum. what the hell f*** it, people in north korea have more rights than people on this forum.

"Let's just get this out of the way. The people worried about the look of "Diablo III" being too colorful are idiots. They're straight-up wrong. The last thing we need is Blizzard taking these people seriously."

Warden covered this pretty well, however for allot of us, the color and removal of the light radius was a big issue. Most of us have moved on and accepted it.

This comment is well out of line and quite offensive. according to Gus, us "idiots" that have bought dozens of copys of the game over the last 9+ years, have been at the top of hc ladder, brainlesly mf run 100,000's of runs, tppk'd eachover over and over, know the map generation like the back of our hands and have kept this game alive long past its expirey date shouldnt have our voices heard by blizzard.Sorry Gus but your the one who's straight-up wrong, you are the idiot. Your new jack ass has contributed zilch to the diablo community and your opinion on our complaints is misinformed and holds no substance.

I hate you, you also resemble some sort of swamp oracle-garden gnome fusion

Apart from that I enjoyed the article

posted a message on Disregard females Acquire currency
    Quote from "Number1SuperGuy" »
Most people don't trade items for items, they trade items for currency (runes). This system was bad because high runes were so valuable that anything worth less than 1 Pul was basically worthless and had to be sold for gold... which was worthless. Diablo 3 will have a much better system where any item can be traded for something of value.

This doesn't just make it "more easy for noobs", this fixes a core problem within Diablo.

I disagree, lower end uniques can be traded for pgems/junk jewels which are just a lower form of trade currency. Now this ladder season, i played for 4-5 months a hour or so a day before being banned for loader. If i was under the same misconception you are that any unique that cannot fetch a trade currency of 1 pul is worthless, i would estimate i would have acquired anywhere from 300-400 pgems and 1000's of junk jewels less.

Now if i were to trade those pgems for runes, i would get around 10+ puls, considering trade varies from 30-40pgems for a pul. However being a seasoned ladder player I know not to trade these and to reroll myself. this season i was lucky enough to get atleast half a dozen diff baal gc's while baaling to 95. Even without any lucky rerolls ( combat 40 lifer comes to mind ) I still rerolled plenty of skillers with decent mods, I would estimate i collected somewhere between 10-20 hrs for the skillers that we're crafted from pgems that i traded low uniques for. So with no major contribution from luck i have collected 10-20 hr's more than the person who chooses not too go too these lengths and that's not even including crafts from the jewels.

While gold did not have trade value with a high level gambler it still had a very important place, from pots, tombs, repairs to high level gambling which can yield some amazingly valuable gg amulets and rings aswell as the usefull barb shout sticks.

It is possible that the time spent muling and trading those low uniques that were found magic finding and then actually crafting would have been more valuably put into more time magic finding. However this is totally dependent on the player having some bloody good luck and a map hack, neither of which i had this season.

    • In simple what im trying to say is smart players had ways of turning what most would throw away into large ammounts of trade currency.
So clearly a noob cannot ammount as much trade currency as a seasoned player can within the same time frame without the element of luck playing a major role. The problem with gold being the trading currency is that once the most efficient farming grounds and classes are common knowledge one can attach a gold per hour to their farming. Players who are spending the most time farming are then the wealthiest as there is very little more affect knowledge can have on the ammount of gold dropping per hour. I can imagine this will most likely take away a CORE gaming element of online d2 and that is magic finding, because when a player is given the choice of 1000g per hour or a lottery chance at item worth 20000, their going to pick the reliable 1000g per hour. If the best gold drop area's/boss' are the same as the best item drop area's/boss' then this would not be true.

to end my rediculous rant, having the main form of trade currency as items is definatly not a core problem of diablo imo it added allot of depth and interest to trading. Depending on how the gold as a currency is implemented it will not take away shortcut methods to becoming a fatcat or completely remove alternate currencies forming. For myself, its just blizzard taking one more step away from diablo while protesting its a better system/style etc and ending up one step closer to wow.

posted a message on The Reason Behind Wait For D3 Perhaps??
    Quote from "Mufasa" »
Most of the time as you begin development you don't even know exactly what it is you need, and people take on the task of multiple roles, as the project continues and people start to get a larger workload and focus more on specific aspects, then all of the sudden you might realize exactly what things you will need in particular, "Ok well now we need someone else to work solely on this. We are very familiar with this portion, we have finalized and fleshed out other things. We for certain need this."

I mean that happens frequently. If you really think about it, on a lot of projects it's hard to just fully flesh out a full force of people right from the beginning. The creativity aspect lags behind the need for work. "How is the inventory system going to work?" You can't delegate that to an employee if you don't know what they're going to be making. So then you come up with the concept, ok now you know what you need done. Now you can hire the guy to work on that portion.

Not exactly what Blizzard might be doing, but just some illumination on the subject.

This is quite correct, however Imo it very much seems like they are trying to speed up the production process. Blizzard has become a money making machine with WoW and the activison blizzard merge has left them with another audience to please, activision blizzard shareholders. Blizzard has 2 major games in production ( another unannounced one in the works or possibly production ) and obviously large rights and investments in the wow movie, all that stand to fatten the pockets of major investors.

hurdels in production can break a game, as we've seen with starcraft:ghosts and numerous other games, its getting close to a year now since the official announcement of d3 and very little new content has been shown. The hype is slowly diminishing, and we can see blizzard trying to keep people hungry with the d2 ladder reset and 1.13, new fansite policies, blizzcasts with snippets of petty information and bashiok aka Drysc's tight lipped communications.

If what theyv showed over the last year is the only material theyv deemed satisfactory, under the presumtion that blizzard would in their best interests reveal most of the content that reaches the standard, then it would appear to me that theyv reached a bloody big hurdel.

Obviously blizzard could just be hiding allot of their progress for a nice big surprise. Imo the gaming industry has shown that a steady stream of information is going to build and keep hype allot better than spontaneous releases of large information.

posted a message on Two art styles dumped
    Quote from "DiabloIIIkore" »
It's a good thing, Blizzard dumped Blizzard North, the team 1 that was working on Diablo III. If you want to see the work of the previous team 1 and team 2. The guys from Blizzard North went to form a new companies called Flagship Studios and Castaway Entertainment.

    Flagship Studios ...
    Hellgate: London & Mythos

Base of what I've heard, Hellgate: London was a failure and so is Mythos.

These guys haven't had a successful break-off of Blizzard. Perhaps a good reason, we saw them depart from Diablo III?

You can google search them. Images and everything, they're not up to par.

I played mythos for close to 4 months, It was probably one of the best diablo hack and slash clones Iv ever played. Its down fall was the lack of story line and the seemingly endless repetition aswell as terrible art style, all considered for a game that really should have still been in alpha testing and prosumably had a small production budget the gameplay was excellent

As was mentioned before, Iv watched several different videos of edited gameplay footage with darker colors and light radius' (all still viewable on youtube) and some definatly look allot better imo. Its definatly nothing thats going to stop me from playing and enjoying the game however.

I would be very intrested in seeing the dumped art styles myself, Its good to see blizzard still striving for perfection.

posted a message on Disregard females Acquire currency
Lets face it, one of the most addicting parts of d2 was accumulating wealth.

It was easy for a player to enter a established "economy" and gain wealth quite quickly, through the collection of pgems ( their use in rerolling gc's gave them value ) junk jewels ( Used to craft ) the odd open socket elite items and of course the chance that a mid value rune would drop from the forge.

In a unestablished economy ( ladder resets ) a player could reach lvl 95+ and start rerolling/crafting aswell as gambling for items of high trade value or use on a magic finding character.
These elements made accumulating wealth easy for the smart and hard for the noobs.

Not much info about items has been made public, but prosuming blizzard doesnt destroy trading through the implementation of lots of class limited items, binded items ( ie bind on pickup, gives me a headache just thinking about it ) or a general trade currency ( gold actually having value ) there should be a quick path to wealth beyond pure luck.

So to simplify my question on the odd chance that bashiok responds, has blizzard though about or planned to implement any of the above or similar ideas to help one accumulate wealth easily?
