Act 5 is his homeland yes, but no where does it say Harrogath is his home. Thus it is possible he is a new comer to Harrogath. We do know that Malah knows the Barbarian. Her son Bannuk grew up with the Barbarian.

The various barbarian tribes live in different areas of Highlands, most of them are nomadic, moving from place to place, but staying in one general area. one tribe lives in a forest, one lives by the coast, one lives in the mountains, one lives on the plains. It is not said if any of them live in Harrogath or even Secheron, their captial city. Secheron would probably be a conglomerate of clans, as that is where Bul Kathos lived when he united the clans (which have since split back up).

Thank you for the insight. It was most helpful. :) I love the Barbarian.

That is true, but it depends on how you view the situation.

She says much has happened since you left (kind of like how Ogden did at the start of Diablo 1), yet Cain says that he is amazed to find the place so untouched. So she cannot be talking about Harrogath the town when she says much as changed. She can, and most definitely is, talking about the lands that surround the town.

Cain maybe old, but he is not senile enough to not know the barbarian is a barbarian. At best, to me, I view the situation as the Barbarian is not from Harrogath the town itself. Thus he is a stranger there, but not a stranger to act 5.

As Malah is the only one who knows him, it is possible (while not mentioned of course) that she moved from the Barbarian's actual home to Harrogath. As Harrogath is a bastion at the foothills of mount Arreat, where the fighting is fierce her skills as a healer would be prized there.

I live in an area called the Waikato, yet there are towns and places in the Waikato I have never been to, thus I am a stranger when I arrive there, despite living in the same area as the place in question.

Again, great insight, and I agree with your analysis. Thanks! :)

Malah does have a custom greeting for the Barbarian, welcoming him home.

As for Cain, no matter who you are, he just says, "I am amazed to find this place so...untouched...." Because he is amazed. And he's got other things on his mind than talking about you being home.

Yes, I know. It just would have been nice if Cain had had something to say about the Barbarian's homeland as well. But I think I understand why, as Elfen Lied explained.

Has anyone noticed how Deckard Cain treats the Barbarian in the 5th Act? He speaks to the Barbarian like a foreigner. I mean, it's his homeland right? lol. The only one that seems to recognize you as a Barbarian is the old woman. She greets you back home warmly and even states how wonderful it is to see you again. Did Cain bump his head on the way to the mountain? lol Or am I missing something? Perhaps this particular clan or tribe is not the current hero's tribe? Please give your thoughts and insights. :)
