I dont know if anyone has suggested this yet but i think a great idea of filling the "paladin" class slot would be a fallen angel. not unlike tyrael who has been banished from heavens services after the destruction of the worldstone. adept in sword skills and divine magics. but anyway just throwing it out there . let me know what you think?:)
introducing a system not unlike the one in titan quest that allows the player to purchase skill piont back after allready assigning them. or maybe items like the quest rewards that are in d2 that permanently increase health or strenght or resistances or imbuing an item could be made availiable in certain stores in certain towns. if these items would increase in price each time one was purchased this would make the value of gold go up. and the incentive to buy them is that they help make your character more epic
