Dam, I absolutely hate blizzard for that. Their artwork is simply gorgeous. Makes me really jealous :(.
I still have a lot of work to do to get to that level...
*zombie voice* Must...draw....

Aug 25, 2008VoXorb posted a message on Diablofans - WWI Card Tyrael Pet ContestSuggestions for the trading system:Posted in: News
- Auction house, definitely. But not the same one as in WoW. A player receiving an item instantly after paying it's buyout price is something really mechanic. D3 needs something more organic. A player wishing to sell an item will put it up on the auction house and would be able to ask what he wishes to receive in exchange for it ( ex: 15000 gold, or 1 hr and 5000 gold, or a Bartuc) Than a player wishing to buy this item will submit him an offer and if they seller accepts, the item will be reserved for the buyer which will be able to recuperate it the next time he comes to an auction house. I believe such a system would fit D3 much better than the WoW auction house system.
- Linkable items in chat.
- Shared stash between characters of the same account ( like in Guild Wars ) or some kind of system that would allow one character to give items/gold to another one.
- What would be cool is to give mercenaries (if they will be present in D3) an inventory. That way they could hold some of your loot.
- A more advanced direct trading system, so that scammers couldn't trade look-alike items.
- Give gold a value. Gold was useless in D2, it would be nice to see that it could actually be used for something in D3.
- Independent servers for trading, this is also where the auction house will be.
Suggestion for pvp system:
- Be able to duel people.
- Creating a Honor/ranking system, trough which one could obtain titles and trophies. Honor should NOT be used to buy equipment like in WoW, Diablo was always a monster killing game, equipment should be obtained by killing monsters, not trough pvp.
- An arena! although arena sounds too official, I would say combat pit, it would fit the Diablo atmosphere better ( I'll talk about the combat pit in detail in the concept below).
- An advanced Clan/Guild system, more appearant than in D2, perhaps people could even wear something that would show their belonging to the guild, like an insignia on their armor. Not a cape tough...that would be copying Guild Wars.
- CHALLENGES. Diablo was always about slaughtering huge mobs of monsters and fighting epic bosses, so a developed and organized team based pvp system like in WoW would seem akward in D3, especially because there is no healing class. So something more appropriated would be challenges. ex: slay 100 zombies without using a single health orb. Or kill more than 100 monsters under 1 minute. Or fight your way trough a room with a teammate, but you are vulnerable against normal monster and have a damage bonus against bosses and your friend is the opposite.
Other suggestions:
- Keep the hardcore mode, h mode is one of the things that really made D2 unique, it adds a whole new level of suspense and excitement.
- Add more rune words/horadrim cube combinations. It would definitely add to the game.
- Character appearance customization would be nice.
Concept:
When I first read the contest directives it made me think of a cool concept, salvage anything you wish out of it.
There would be independent ''trading servers'', which would look like this. Depending on what he wants, a player could go watch what is going on in the combat pit or go directly to the trading area. There will be an invisible ''chat wall'' which would separate the combat pit and the trading area, so that people in the combat pit would not hear the people trying to trade their items and vice-versa.
In the trading area people will be able to buy things from regular NPC vendors but will also be able to access to the auction house and their stash.
In the combat pit, players would be able to challenge themselves to fight to the death in 1v1, or 2v2, 3v3 and many other modes, these fights could also be initiated with the participants holding bets against each other ( ex: if I win you give me 1000 gold and etc.). Spectators would also be able to place bets on the combatants. This will also be the place where most of the challenges will take place. Think you can beat 100 zombies without using a single health orb...prove it! A stranger could also challenge you and so on... Challenges would be made to be really hard to be spectacular and very rewarding, since a player would obtain titles and trophies ( or other kinds of rewards) by beating these.
The emplacement of the combat pit is strategic since the spawn point is nearby. This is made to increase the number of visitors and to encourage fighting in a combat pit.

But yea, like pretty much everyone said...Heroes 3 with the two expansions was GREAT, Heroes 5 is good but doesn't have the same feel as Heroes 3, nor the same AI.
Two fun things about heroes 5 tough ( with the expansions) is that you have 2 upgrade options per unit...and the skill system/ castle specials are quite interesting.
Also, on the aesthetics side...the castles really look top notch, especially with the fly by view (Sylvan blew me away with that). The music also contains some very good tracks ( Haven, Sylvan)...although I still miss the tower soundtrack from H3.
My favorite castle in H5 is dungeon...I guess i really like their style: hit and return with powerful spells and sexy/bad ass units.
Back in H3 it was Necropolis and Tower.

Here is some of my stuff. 3 bandits relaxing after having pillaged a small tomb. I thought that this could be the kind of monsters/NPCs you could find north of Caldeum or west of Lut Gholein.
Also, I received my tablet recently so I might post something in colors in the future.

True. Sometimes I take things to seriously...
Why? Shouldn't artists be able to live from what they poor their soul into?
Edit: Umpa, It was your first ink drawing? Pretty good.

Some of your stuff looks rough, but you do have some potential...so draw more.
Also, forgot to mention, I think the composition is wrong because the wings of the angel look cluttered, and seem to have a lot of weight on them, because of the horse heads and the elements above it. Personally I would have put the angel in the top part of the canvas.

There are some mistakes tough.

Very good overall, I'm looking forward to hear and see things from you.

Of course if you consider drawing a small hobby than I guess they are OK.
On the other hand, if art is more important to you than just that and you want to pursue your career in that direction that art would be considered as absolutely horrible and unacceptable.
Sorry for being a little harsh, but I don't like lying.
The only good thing that I noticed is that the two last pics have an interesting potential for composition. But it wasn't developed properly.

I'm currently working on that.

I also tried to make him look slightly deranged.
My drawing isn't an exact representation of what he looks like in the game. ( he is supposed to have white gloves and a lot more hair than that), but it's pretty close.
Please leave some feedback.

Job-realted experience:
- I have never worked as a concept artist before, but i have been drawing since I was a little kid.
- I am designing websites ( html and flash) It's my part time job.
- I am studying in architecture so I have some experience with programs such as Autocad and 3ds Max.
Strong points:
- Since i'm studying architecture, I have a good knowledge of how to draw architectural entities.
- I am also equally good at drawing people/monsters and other biological organisms (as you can see in my drawings)
- I have some experience in flash/photoshop/3ds max
- I am very enthusiastic about this whole thing since it's something that has interested me since i was a kid.
Weak points:
- I tend to be a perfectionnist so sometimes it takes me a while to finish my drawings.
- I don't have a lot of experience in coloring and finalising drawings in photoshop ( I will buy a pad in the next weeks and begin studying painter).
Problems/complications:
- My semester ends in about 5 weeks, I don't know what delay you want your project to be completed in but this might be the biggest problem.
Here are some examples of things i'v drawn (I don't only draw realisticaly. Altough it's my prefered drawing style, I can do something more cartoony or abstract without problems)
