posted a message on Diablo III Producer Justifies Controversial Art Direction: Color Is Your Friend
I've read posts in this forum, as well as several others. A lot of the people either can't speak or write proper English, or I'm guessing are under 12. I've seen a lot of people criticize people when they say the art looks too cartoonish, which is a very childish act. Honestly I am very disappointed as to the way they decided to take the art direction. Several aspects set the mood of a game. Diablo has always been about fighting the undead, demons, and the such. To be fighting such aforementioned things, and see a rainbow and waterfall and the background greatly disappoints me. Darkness, and eeriness being the major aspects that I expect from a game with a title "Diablo". With that title I associate a Gothic feel, which coincides with the mood very well. I would have to agree with people who have said it before, Diablo III has a WoW feel to it. And with that I picture a very unrealistic game, with very polished feel to it. A game like Diablo III should be gritty, and have a feel we have associated with the Diablo Franchise. And I disagree with the many people who say we should just grit our teeth and deal with it, because "blizzard won't change the artistic direction". If the disappointment is near universal in the fan base, it should create enough of a ripple for blizzard to take notice. And those who have said we only saw a portion of the game, and cannot judge it. I will have to remind you that it started out in a dungeon, a place of darkness and death. Which none of which were apparent in the game play trailer.
