posted a message on Character naming conventions and Reservations for Diablo 3 (Diablo 2)
Hmm. No way in hell I'm posting mine :D

Just a note, there was a big stink when WoW first opened. Several pvp guilds in beta and from UO made public what server they were going to go to. So, someone got there first and took all their names. I know some people who had the same thing happen by a person that disliked them in DAoC. One name, maybe, but the whole list? That's a griefer.

    Very nice links though :)

Baldur's Gate is wayyyy far away from Diablo. And it was fantastic :D
THe only real variation was with your party characters and how they interacted with each other. There were some subplots you would, or would not get, depending on your party. Some of the stuff changed depending on your rep as well.
    /played a thief
    /stole everything
    /stupid pickpocket fails

Edit: That said, I do think the lush, hand-painted environments in BG resemble D3's outdoor world.

No, I am not spam o.O

It was just something I remembered when I read that the pc gamer mag was going to touch on the petition. It made me think, hmm. You know, we kinda asked Blizz to do this once before in another game and wonder if the brighter *night* is something of an art style in itself. I don't mind the colors at all, and I like seeing the dungeon as I go through it. (It reminds me more of the lush hand painted BG series than anything else.) But, I did find the light radius and the dark caves kinda cool too. So, I hope there are dark caves. But, when I think about D1 and 2, there were really only a few areas truly black as pitch. Viva Variety? I think IF they just answer about Light Radius then we'll have a good idea.

I am also kinda curious if this came up in any of their other games. War3 had a night cycle after all. Anyone test that and recall if they tweaked the darkness any?

I can atest in WoW at least, they changed things in Alpha like mad. For instance, in one push, no talent trees. You had skill points when you leveled one push, grinded them in the next. One push you could get every tradeskill, next only 3. Then you could buy stats with them etc. Took them awhile to come up with the trees. At the time, people pegged it as Diabloish :D

IF I recall correctly (hey, it's been awhile) they did not make night darker because in WoW, the day/night cycle is 24 hours (another big debate at the time). In other games where you get a pitch black night, its only a few hours. So, if it had been pitch black, people in Australia would always play in that. Had they shortened the game clock, they probably would have made night darker.

It's not a day until an art thread gets posted :P
    So here 'tis mine.

What do people know of that has been changed due to customer input, or not changed? Out of curiosity, and with links. I've read a lot about Starcraft color changes for instance.

I was lucky enough to be in the F&F WoW Alpha starting during the 3rd push. They released Humans first, then dwarves, then Undead (cap was lvl 20) Then next was the Tri-Horde push. There was a pretty big consensus that the Troll female was so fugly no one would play them. Their legs looked like a mutated turkey. A comparison of the changes in them and the female tauren can be seen here: http://www.theirisnetwork.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/figure8.jpg

As a trivia note, when we started getting Day - Night cycles. I think it was pretty much a consensus that everyone thought *Night* in WoW was really too light or at least, could be darker without hurting much. Many of us came from DAoC and EQ. EQ, certain races can't even see at night without aids. There were many people that called for a blacker night. We were denied, they said No. I find it interesting that Diablo is under the same discussion and I wonder how it will look should they turn on the Fog of War. That was pretty much what the darkness in D2 was.

And that is my rambly thought from seeing the PC gamer article thingy :) I find it amusing that many of the art posts asking for Diablo to be Darker, aka NOT WoW, are asking for something similar to what the Alpha WoW players wanted.

Part of the problem with saving characters is however naming is going to work. Apparently right now, as long as no one makes a new character with your name, it won't get deleted even though it's been past 3 months. As far as MMOs go, you can fill up your limit making new classes on a server, never play them, but the name has been reserved for 4 years. That type of thing kinda sucks. They did say they had not decided on the financial model, so perhaps there will be a pay option to keep the characters stored.

posted a message on Cool downs and Potion using
Cooldowns aren't a WoW thing really. I'll try to think of some examples.
Ultima Online - think the cooldown on pots was 5 minutes? Or was it 2. You couldn't chain chug them and you had to unequip your shield so you'd have a free hand to do it.

Dungeon Siege 2, has special attacks with cooldowns. It's a rpg. If you think of the DnD world, Baldur's Gate etc, all spells have cooldowns as you have to rest to be able to use them again. 1 memomrized spell each game 24 hours basically. RTS's like Dungeon Keeper had cooldowns on the big spells. They basically made them so mana intensive that you could only cast it once, then you had to wait to regen.

The idea is to make you think harder about when you use the option. Not sure how that helps having your head ripped off by an assault beast though.

Nice! I had to register just to say thanks for the fonts and add a couple Links as well. Seems I am still too newbie to post links, and it wont let me get rid of the url spam. /sigh
Sorry for the mess, but you'll have to copy/paste to get to the links.

Really nice. I like the way its open around the edges so all tehjunk on my desktop will still show up ;)
At first glance, I wanted the Witch Doctor text to be green to make it stand out. Then I recalled the flame pet on the game video and thought, nah. Orange is good :)

posted a message on Diablo 2 is available for download from Blizzard Store
I downloaded this to have a copy for my Mac as well as my PC. After all, the CDs are onlly one or the other. BTW, after you enter in your 16 digit key and download, they give you a new 26 key to use with it. On the window with all the games listed, there is some text on the bottom of each game banner that tells you to click it to reveal the key.

I am liking this simply because, now if I lose my CD cases, I still have the keys on file. No problems :)
