Jul 13, 2008OathofChaos posted a message on Diablo III - More DetailsDon't forget that the drops are on a person to person basis... like a credit system (or, at least that what I thought).... so it's easier to bypass items that you don't want // need. That'll also fix the problem of people just sitting behind to clean up the scraps.... if you call that a problem.Posted in: News

*ahem* A bit too much on the zealous side.

[Edit]
As far as the sketchy workarounds for LAN... at last count, people are still trying to find a LAN patch for Hellgate: London. The game was only hacked for Single Player (which really isn't that hard with an ISO program and a keygen), and people still can't reverse engineer the game to be LAN-able. This is truly saying a lot about how games are being run these days.
I feel that it's not necessarily about pirating their games, but being able to use LAN as a way to compromise their security. (This was the reason stated by the developers as to why there was no LAN patch).

Okay, so I misread your post entirely. I thought you were making overgeneralized statements about the community of players who had played Diablo I.
My apologies.
(( I know it's a bit late on the reply. ))

Statement 1 is false, not everyone who played Diablo 1 is an eight year old.
Secondly, if he doesn't want to play a game without LAN capabilities, that's his choice. He already stated that he'd enjoy the game, saying primarily what everyone else said "It's going to be good" Yadda yadda.
I'm going to pre-order the game. If there's a Collector's Edition, I'll definitely get that.
As far as the rating system... I quote from www.esrb.com/ratings/ratings_guide.jsp
Just because a game is rated high doesn't mean that parent's cannot buy the game for their children, or that they can't download the game without parental consent. The system is in place to let parents know what'll be in a game (and to what degree).
Then again, I know of a lot of parents who really don't care what their children play. Parental responsibility doesn't fall on the companies' shoulders. With the internet as open-access as it is, you shouldn't wonder how that kid get access to things like the Anarchist's Cookbook, pr0n, or an M rated game.

Edit: Seraph, may I trouble you for a picture to use as an album cover for my Zune? I would greatly appreciate it!

What we know:
Melee
Caster - Minion // Support
Pure Caster
What we assume to finish the Archetypal setup:
Ranged
Hybrid - Caster // Melee
The final class may or may not be a "Holy" class as you indicated, but will support a Hybrid archetype. One that can both cast and melee. Indicating that the class will be "Holy" in some aspects, in my opinion, is a bit too specific based on the information we know.

1) Go to the Blizzard Website and make sure that you're patched to the highest patch. sometimes this can pose a problem, and older games have problems interfacing with new servers.
2) If you may have been hit with the proverbial "Ban-stick", unplug the power to your modem or router and wait for a minute, then plug it back in. In all games aside from WoW, Blizzard will temp-ban or perma-ban based on your IP address. By resetting your modem, you'll re-establish a new IP address. If you're using a Static IP, however, you may be up Crit creek without a paddle.

STR: Enough for gear
DEX: none
VIT: Everything else
NRG: none
That's the cookie cutter for nearly every build, save ones that require a bit of Dex for gear, and maybe a few points into Energy just for a slightly higher mana base?
No, I feel this auto-stat allocation is for the better. Let us not forget that we're able to "customize" our stats further with item enhancements. Diablo II was founded on the principal of itemization. Items combined with skills affect your character... your stats (to begin with) had a basic level of change on your character, but overall hindered it by allocating points into unneeded categories.
Now Blizzard has turned to a more "gear" dependent game that still has room for customization through enchantments and sockets. They've stated quite clearly that, with the return of Sockets and the introduction of Enchantments, your character will still be able to have a level of stat customization. That is where the gold-sink will be, and that is where your stat customization will be.
Please stop throwing a fit that the game is moving too close to "WoW".
