Ahh but graphic capability does have everything to do with it. Like I said, if Blizzard wanted to give D3 resident evil or silent hill atmosphere, they would.
Those are very different games from Diablo 3, how can you compare them? You're trying to say that the system req's would be too high if they went with a less cartoonish style? Wrong. That has nothing to do with system requirements. They can easily get rid of the green glowing walls, have less flashing lights and burning abilities spewing fireworks all over the place, and you are saying that would be more demanding? On the contrary, I think it would be less demanding on computers.
But its not easy to create such an atmosphere without revamping the entire graphic style of Blizzard. A dark environment will not work well with the current style of graphic that blizzard uses.
thats like saying "Donuts wouldn't taste good if they're not donuts". Of course a dark environment won't work well with their style, because their style now revolves around World of Warcraft. They admitted it.
From the photoshoped pictures that you see, you can kinda tell that it would be a step backwards in terms of graphical technology.
I'd take those photoshops over the current bastardization any day.
That is not to say that Blizzard cannot hire an entirely new casts. But this game has been in productions for a very long time. So the graphic style has already been considered long before they could go on to character design, weapon design etc.
Yeah they'd rather keep the WoW cast and put them to work. They can go screw themselves for all I care, I'm not gona waste anymore time on this, good bye all
Truce? What are you talking about? Do you want people to say "Now that Blizzard says they're not changing it, I accept the new art direction, now lets stop talking about it and accept it"?
That's not a truce, but more like asking people to deny their thoughts, kiss ass and join the caravan.
ok now i know we all will probably buy diablo 3 when it gets here. but im just wondering. based on all the discusions on how the game looks SO FAR...who here would buy diablo 3 right now if it looked excactly the same and no improvments.
Some of the stuff in those trailers makes my blood boil with disgust and frustration. Thats a resounding Hell no from me, it can kiss my ass to be blunt. Not worth the emotional turmoil.
Wilson also assured me that the environments will get darker as the game progresses (what’s out now are early stages of the game), and the team is still in the process of “smattering the world with dead bodies and horrific skeletons and things like that” along the way.
In other words, progressively more green and blue will be seen. At least they're adding bodies and "horrific" skeletons.
I love it when people say "you've only seen 1% of the game" ... guess what, the art direction does not change from level to level.
I also love it when people say "turn down the brightness" ... guess what, the style of the game can't be changed with a gamma/brightness slider. Ie the childish/cartoony color effects of skills, movement of characters, etc.
Gotta love when people say wait for the game to come out.. great idea, why didn't I think of this?
Basically what they are saying is "If you find anything you don't like in the game, be quiet, don't express your opinions, and go away."
Lol if this ends up being true I will not touchi this aberration w/ a 10 foot pole when I got so much stuff to do in rl. Life goes on.. thank God! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deDiPdPAm_k
I could never play as female for some reason, Probably because I have trouble pretending to be female..? if that makes sense. I tried, but always deleted it and went male
What I meant was.. I dont like the artistic direction, nor do I like the purple, but the purple items does not seem out of place with the stylized environment, since everything is bright as hell (bad pun) and cheery to begin with./
This just occured to me. I don't think the cinematic trailer is going to be the one that is played when you start up the game. The reason being, that when you watch the trailer, it has a lot of fragmented scenes, and not very clear explanation of the story.
I'm wishfully suspecting that Blizzard made that cinematic as a sort of teaser, trying not to reveal much about the story. When they release the game, maybe it will be a more linear, explanatory, version.. possibly telling the story of what in the world is happening.
So I gather that the Worldstone which guards the passage between Hell and earth is allegedly exploding as the armies gather to face the onslaught
One thing though.. didn't Tyrael already destroy the worldstone "20 years ago"?
There is the issue of .. once destroyed, how long does it take for the minions of hell to be able to come through?.. or maybe theres much more involved here.
edit: Oh and you guys confused about the different versions of the picture, This thing is from the cinematic trailer, so I think its a progression, depending on when you pause it.
edit#2: Never mind, I just watched the cinematic again and it only shows only this scene: (i took the screenshot from media player) .. notice the awesome-looking lightning strikes going on in the smoke there
That picture looks funny until you stop and look at it more.. I think that barbarian is about to have horrible things done to his body.. like he got lost on his way as his lvl 80 friend was rushing him half naked through the flayer jungle on nightmare difficulty to get the Gidbinn lol

Nice way to suppress people's opinions.
