Acutally the DUTY of the player is to KILL DIABLO. Not each other.
Last I checked that was the story line. ;) .

last i checked the storyline of hardcore was kill or be killed. I hear players are much friendlier on the softcore realm....play there if you can't protect your char.

The thing is that stuffing things in your inventory ala Tetris isn't real at all, it's just a minigame that some may enjoy and some may hate.
Remember that the reason that Blizz done the new system is because they thinks that the player will enjoy better his time slaying monsters than fitting things in the inventory and doing town runs.

This isn't an "either or" scenario though. The added dimension of "items with sizes which correspond to reality" can be synergized with non-stop action. I'm all for expandable inventory slots/bags.

Were you opposed to SoJs being a currency and really not a form of bartering?

The duped SOJ problem was fixed by the ladder system. The real problem was that high level items were abundant because of hackers...that's what transformed bartering into a form of currency.

As long as items are actually as rare as their drop rates, you don't have to worry about this happening.

    No thanks.

Diablo is about items and bartering. Buying items is just as lame in video games as it is on ebay.

    1 slot items is fine.

You want a realistic game, but you still want to be able to carry two polearms on your left pocket, a couple broadswords in ur right one and a full plate armor in your backpack while doing some amazing fighting moves ... c'mon people.

I don't think anyone wants a realistic game per se....I think the argument is that certain elements of realism make the game more immersive and promote the suspension of disbelief. By mixing real with the unreal at critical points, the game is able to suck you in, and you get those holy-gaming-grail moments where you forget that your sitting in front of your computer. If you disagree with me, I don't think you have ever slammed your freshly dropped Tal's Armor into your inventory just to listen to the sound.

Geez I sound like a nerd.

You are fighting the legions of Hell, overcoming them with the use of magic and enchanted weapons in a world filled with undead and demons.

    ...Where is the realism, again?

IMO, the realism comes from....to use your words: "Hell", "magic" and "demons"....i.e. the supernatural...something that every major religion and the majority of the world believes actually exists. That is what makes it scary. If the game was called "boogeyman" instead of the name for the Christian enemy of God and author of evil, Satan...i.e "Diablo" ....it would lose a lot of its "realist" quality.

I think the advantage of the tetris system is not just the added dimension of realism in packing a backpack, but it also the tactile pleasure of picking up a large item and thunking it down into your inventory. There is no sense of size and weight in the 1 slot system. The massive presence of a windforce in your inventory was a rush. You actually felt like you had something. If your rings are the same size as your double-sided axes...the game loses a lot...and the sense of ownership and pride in your items lacks an entire dimension. The tetris system gives you that sense of size and weight.
