Saying something as generalising as that is staggeringly ignorant.
The only thing that has been changed in the OP pictures is an overlayed 'grey'. If you want to play like that, turn the brightness down on game release, turn the lights off in your room and potentially suffer eye strain when you can't see what the fuck is going on.
The feeling about dark should come from artwork not light bulb hehe...
The way it is now, everything that's happening on the screen is crystal clear. The combat animations/mob attacks are well defined and it won't just be a mess of animation/spell effects.
