Your idea sounds very similar to what was implemented in the Titan Quest expansion and worked very well. They say they are working on a new system. We'll have to wait and see.
All the WoW players are going to say Gold.
All the Old-Diablo Players are gonna say items.
Let's the battle begins.
By the way, I REALLY HOPE, REALLY HOPE that they DON'T add an auction house.
Sorry, an auction house is far and away the best way to trade out of anything that has been thought up.
In D2 you end up with mediocre items that should be worth something, but end up being worth nothing or very little, and truly great items end up being traded for less than they are worth. The system is bad. In an auction house system, everyone sees the item. No need for games like "XXXXX Godly helm here" than many people could use but no one checks out because very few people even see the game, and fewer still take the time to join and check out.
I for one hate having to sit in games for nearly an hour to trade something, or having dozens of mules full of stuff that I just don't feel like taking the time to trade. An auction house system would let you drop it in, and go back to playing the game and not sitting around doing nothing, which is the way it should be.
I understand there will be no competition for drops.
What I'm wondering is, for example....
We kill Diablo and for me a unique helm drops and it's called "Diablo's Mantle". What I'm wondering is that drop unique to me as in I'm the only one who got a "Diablo's Mantle" while perhaps the other person in the game got "Diablo's Claw", or do we all get "Diablo's Mantle"?
I would hate it to be the same because that just sounds lame. I'm not a fan of the "loots for everyone" system they are implementing anyways because I like the thrill of trying to click on an item before anyone else, but I'd be even more bumed if everyone got the same thing. If everyone got something different at least that would be fun to hear what others got and to see if you got something better than someone else or if someone got something cool that you might be able to trade what you got for theirs instead.
You know what I mean?
If it's anything like Diablo 2 than Diablo wouldn't be the only creature in the game that could drop "Diablo's Mantle" because drops are on drop tables, so if one dropped for you, chances are nothing similiar would have dropped for anyone else. Now as far as quest items, such as Meph's soulstone go, everyone would get one.
The item game. It is what none of the clones have seem to be able to copy. The sheer vastness of the amount of item possibilities in D2 was amazing. It will be truly awesome if D3 can expand this even further.
