I think it will help the game play more than hurt it.
I mean, these guys aren't idiots. WoW is an MMORPG, which is something very different from Diablo/Battle.net play. If anything, they will know better than anyone what to do and NOT do from experience in both fields, WoW and D1&2.
From the Rob Pardo interview, he already stated that D3 wasn't going to be a crappy "LFG" system, where all the players of each region are sectioned off into hundreds of separate realms. The design panel talks about how they want the action to keep moving, rather than having a WoW style of fight-drink-fight-drink-etc.
From all the interview and panel videos I've watched, it seems these guys are very serious about this game NOT being WoW and want it to be very much a Diablo game that veteran Diablo fans will immediately identify with.
I LOVE D2, in that I can jump on whenever I want, play for however long I want, and I always have the same access to content as everyone else. I hope D3 is like this as well.
If D3 goes the MMO route, I'm afraid it will end up like WoW, where it's all about guilds and scheduled raids. I don't want that crap for Diablo. I don't want the stupid bickering divided player bas that WoW has.
In Diablo games, the only difference between hard core and casual players was that hardcores dedicated more time and were able to progress characters faster, find items faster, etc. Casual have all the same opportunities as the hardcores, only it takes them longer. I think this is a great setup and we should want it to stay like this.
If D3 turns out like WoW, I guess I'll be playing D2 REALLY long time...
Vote for Diablo III, not World of Diablo!
ps: Oh, and just to clarify, I'm not against having a persistent world to play in. Actually that would be preferred. I just don't want the whole "tank/dps/healer" group setup that forces people to schedule balanced groups in order to get anything done. In Diablo II, 8 players of the same class could do just as well as any balanced group, which made for easy partying. I don't want to see that changed.
I played none of those, but i think the best mmo ever is Ultima Online.
Yes sir! Although didn't enjoy any of the expansions after T2A. The original launch of UO is still the best online experience I've ever played, and probably ever will.
Baal seems to be the more powerful of the 3, but prehaps that is just due to his nature, He is the Lord of Destruction. Destruction to me seems more powerful than Terror or Hatred.
on a side note, Diablo is said to be the youngest of the three, and Mephisto is said to be the oldest.
I think it has to do with the hosts that the prime evils were housed in. I mean, Baal was trapped in, and eventually dominated, Tal Rasha. I'm sure he came out stronger because of that. At minimum, sharing the mind of Tal Rasha would have given him a couple of new spells, if not an over all better understanding of magic.
I've read this exact (translation) article quite some time ago. I clearly remember reading the "dirty animals" part and the concept of an insect class. It was linked in the WoW forums. Like last year >.<
I know the link provided in this thread goes to a site that claims the info is new, but I swear I've read this before.
I vote he lives, but I really think he'll move on to "obi won kinobi" status or something, as he'll just ascend into a higher form, perhaps as some kind of spirit or angel that is still part of the story.
I only play single player now. I go through D2 spurts and don't play constantly anymore, so I keep having my accounts pop because I forget to log them in within the certain amount of time. A month can go by quick >.<
Plus, I always have the worst luck playing on b.net. Games dropped, I get locked out for 30 mins for no apparent reason and people always bitch at me for summoning skellies anyways, so I figured I would just take it offline and have my fun. The /players 8 command gives me the benefit of extra exp, without the drawbacks of online.
Also, I never see all the realms up on the list anymore. It's like the game can only detect one realm at a time anymore, lol. Like right now (just checked) only US East is available. Hitting the change realm button only gives me a list with US East in it. Weird.

I can't find any reason for worrying at all.
