Perhaps I'm not understanding what your saying but it looks like you seem to think you can not act the same on a forum as you would in, as you put it the real world. I still can't exactly grasp the concept of two worlds but I will take your word for it :) . I talk with the same words in the real world as I do here and so do a lot of my mates, why can't you? Why would you need other peoples body language and voices to reply with your ideas and oppinions? If you mis-interpret what other people are saying then you admit it, apologise, and move on. Does this not happen here?

Reading a book and watching a movie are only different in the amount of senses you use and the amount of imagination involved by the reader/watcher. But communication should never dictate to people what they can and can not say and how they should say it. To do so would appear insulting to the writer. And I don't usually say g'day to someone I just said g'day to but I may do it now without thinking, sorry. But if you look at most of the dates on my posts a day or two has past inbetween posts. It is customary to greet someone each day, regardless of wether you greeted them the day before or not.

Example- your co-workers that you work along side each day, when you go to work you would greet them at the beginning of the day. You would not greet them once at the start of the week and then not greet them again. It would make you look like you were being rude. At least here it would :) I think you said yourself that you would say their name if some time had passed.

You say nationality has nothing to do with it but every nation has it's own cultures and customs. Even those that appear to speak the same language, will have different ways and meanings for words. ( example - when I talk about XXXX I am not talking about porn I am talking about the best beer on earth )Are we not free to speak in our own way? I admit we may have numerous mis-interpretations but that is what makes a good forum great. A community which comes from far and wide, from all ways of life. To discuss our thoughts and ideas with like minds on topics we all enjoy.

You said the greeting takes up two lines but it dosn't I just put a space inbetween the greeting and the talking. That's another custom here with writing. Much like writing a formal letter. The quote system you use takes up even more than two lines and is just repeating what has already been said. Is that not excessive reading? You said bolding is only used for special circumstances. That may be true for you and where your from and maybe even many other parts of the globe but it is not true for everyone. I am looking at my posts though and they do seem to stick out a little, but dosn't that also help my reply be directed to the right person? It does help prevent people from thinking it was a reply for them when it really wasn't.

Where I'm from a greeting is important. With the right greeting you can tell almost exactly how a person is feeling and how familiar they are with someone. And yes I'm still talking about just using words.

    example

    G'day mmmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttttteee

Is a greeting for very good friends and is also seen as people who are very happy to see each other.

    G'day mate

Is a greeting for just friends, who are familiar with each other but not to the extent of the first. More like good work associates. Wishing each other well and good tidings.

    G'day cobber

Is a greeting for those who work side by side with the same people for long amounts of time, who trust their judgments and can be relied upon. And who are proud to now them.

    G'day

Is a common greeting for people in general and also to wish good tidings on them for the day.

The word g'day, in a round about kind of way came from the british a few hundred years ago. The common greeting for them was " good day to you ". Meaning we wish you have a good day. Over the centuries we have just molded it into the single word " g'day ". We do use terms like hi and hello but given the choice I think most Australians say g'day. Just using the word G'day implies well being. A person would not usually wish someone else a good day unless they were having one themselves :D

I respect your views and oppinions and hope I have helped you understand why I talk the way I do. If a person like you does not like the way I talk then there is not much I can do about that as to change the way I am would be to lie to myself and in doing so I would be liying to all of you as well. Witch to me would be a greater insult to the Diablo3.com community. If you have any further questions though could you please pm me as I fear we may have gone a bit off topic in this thread

    G'day Abimael

Apologies for going a bit off topic.

    G'day siaynoq

Thanks for the compliment, you have a nice face too.. very umm.. very calcium enriched :D You must drink a lot of milk :)

    G'day jarhead89

Thanks for the support mate :) But it would appear as though I should leave. I would not wish to continue to annoy the people here with the way I talk. It was cool to re-visit a game I use to play and to see the possibility of diablo3 come to our shores. But it's not worth staying and disturbing an entire community. Keep pushing those vegemite scrolls. Their must be someone outside of oz that likes vegemite :D

I apologise if I am offending people :( I didn't realise that the australian language could be. I admit I may not be as knowledgable in internet ettiquette as some but most of the forums I have visited start their replies with a greeting.

    G'day Equinox

I may not have interpreted what you said correctly but it seems as though your making out the internet and the rest of the world around you to be two seperate places. Is that right? If so do you act differently on the internet than what you would with a face to face conversation? Sounds like a lot of work. I'm sorry I just can't do that. I reply to a person just like I would if they were standing right next to me. If I didn't then I would feel like I was telling lies to the people I reply to.

And when you refer to all those bulky bolded sentences, your referring to the greetings, right? Wouldn't using a quote take up even more space most of the time? If using @ or to is what you have grown with then that's great but I don't feel as though others should have to conform to that. I believe the internet should imbrace all cultures into it's dialog not just a one or two. I may speak english but it is the Australian version of english. Not American and not British. I don't see one as better than the other just parts of a greater whole.

If the way I speak is offensive to the people here on the forum then I apologise for that offense as it was not intentional and will sadly say farewell. I will not change the way I am and the way I speak for anyone, just because I'm on the internet. And I do not wish to continue to offend the good people here at Diablo3.com. So the only option I would have left is to leave. :(

hahaha, I have seen it on a rare occasion but usually only on Australian web sites. It was an aboriginal name. Not sure how well known it was outside of oz.

Call it a habit if you like but where I grew up you usually greet the person before talking to them. And it can also save on any confusion on a forum as well :)

The name ttandc has been the name I use no matter where I go. It's pronounced tan-s. Sort of like the word stance but without the s at the start. It came from a story I read years ago. But most people just call me TT for short. :) I'd like to reserve it if possible but I have never seen another ttandc on the net.... yet

Thanks for your replies :) Sometimes I get caught up in my work I forget about some games needs to keep them being played so they don't get deleted. Pehaps they will change this with Diablo 3. If I see myself getting to carried away with work then I'll drop by here and see if one of you guys can take care of them for me :D .

    G'day to all

I have this nice druid who is coming along nicely but I worry that if work gets a bit much I might not be able to play for a while and he might be deleted after a month or so. Is their a way to import our battlenet characters into our computers so that they don't get lost? This way I can save the character in my computer and won't have to worry about losing them after 30 days go by without playing.

Any and all replies are welcome :)

I can not say enough about this mod it is amazing, everthing you wanted to put into bfme2 they did. the new version comes out in a week or two but follow the link below for version 4 which has been out for a few months now

    http://see.the3rdage.net/media.htm

You will never want to play the normal version again. :) Even though this mod even has the option to play both versions at your leisure.

this link takes you to the SEE mods team

    http://forums.revora.net/index.php?showforum=1645

and this link takes you to a thread at GR just for it which I keep an eye on.

    http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index.php?showtopic=251086

Your going to love it. Instructions on how to make it work come with the download and after a few simple steps your bfme2 just got a huge upgrade :D

Do you play with the SEE mod for bfme2? If not it is highly recommended :)

    G'day sofawall

Using the @ to reply to specific people would be a time saver :) . But it just wouldn't be me if I didn't greet the person I was talking to first. Call me crazy or call me insane :D . It's just the way I am :)

    G'day sofawall

I have visited many forums over the past year and I have seem many fights break out because somebody said something and someone else thought it was directed at them and in truth it really wasn't, by saying g'day or hello to the person I'm replying to first I can at least avoid this confusion. I have never really liked the idea of using the quote system as it just repeats what has already been said, which seemed like a waste of time and space on a forum. And now it's just a habit now for me to do this :)

If you ever visit the EA battle for middle earth 2 forum you'll see I've been doing it there for over a year now :D . If you like I can say something else like hello or hi.

Thanks for the reply :) . And aaaaaahhhhhhh I see. I still had some questions to be answered in my Diablo 2 lod thread but if nobody answers them then the thread is moved elsewhere. Does this not pose a problem for people who are looking for answers to their questions?

On other forums I have been a part of threads that have reached over 100 pages long with 15 posts per page. With threads that easily continue after an entire year has past.

    G'day to all

I recently lost my storyline thread but thanks to winstonthe4th :) I can see it again via his link to it. I made that thread in the storyline thread but can not see it when I go into that thread.

I also made another thread in the Diablo 2 lod thread and now it is gone as well.

My question is. Is their some kind of timelimit on threads on this forum? Do they somehow get removed from the threads they were created in after a specific amount of time has passed? or possibly some kind of bug maybe?

Any and all replies are welcomed

    regards

Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's big enough to make it too easy to collect everything but just big enough to have a small collection. :) . And just while I'm thinking about it do you know what happen to my storyline thread called " a story I have to write down before I forget "? I put it in the storyline thread and it seems to have been deleted or possibly moved. It was 4 pages long so it had a bit of thought in it and was just wondering if you knew.

    G'day Genesis

I like the new cube, good thinking.

    G'day to all

When I first played diablo 2 lod I can seem to remember a way to import and export our internt characters into our computers so they would not be deleted after 30 days and we could play them on our pc's on single player if need be. Can anyone remember how this is done?
