Verity posted a message on The "Can My Computer Run It?!" FAQSo, ever since the Diablo III beta system requirements were revealed by Blizzard there have been a lot of questions regarding if X system will be able to run the beta/the game, so here's a guide on how to check for yourself and answers to some common questions.Posted in: Technical Support
How to check if your system will run the beta:Disclaimer: All hardware scores are based on user submitted benchmark tests and may not be completely accurate since different systems/overclocking etc can make an impact on the scores in the individual tests. Take this in consideration when comparing your hardware.
Basics
- Find out what hardware your computer has. If you are not sure you can use the Blizzard beta opt-in tool. It will show what CPU and graphics card you have, among other things.
- RAM (System Memory), HD space, etc are self explanatory. Make sure you are above the minimum specified for "All Platforms".
GPU (Video Card/Graphics Card)
- Go to http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php and use the search form (or CTRL+F) to find your GPU in the list. Use the model name (Usually consisting of 3-5 numbers/letters). If you can't find it try different variations (e.g "GTX 460 SE", "GTX460 SE", "GTX 460SE") or look in the list manually.
- Check the number in the first column. This is the card's G3D score based on user submitted benchmarks.
- Compare your score to the score of the Beta System Requirements (see below for a score rundown):
GPU Minimum Scores
PC:
AMD Radeon X1950 Pro: 825
Nvidia GeForce 7800GT: 525
Mac:
AMD HD 2600: 224
Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT: 286
GPU Recommended Scores
PC:
AMD Radeon HD 4870: 1744
Nvidia GeForce GTX 260: 1740
Mac:
AMD Radeon HD 4670: 582
Nvidia GeForce GT 330M: 489
CPU (Processor)
- Go to http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php and use the search form (or CTRL+F) to find your GPU in the list. Use the model name (Usually consisting of 3-5 numbers/letters). If you can't find it try different variations (e.g "Core2 Duo E8400", "Core 2 Duo E8400", "E8400") or look in the list manually.
- Check the number in the first column. This is the CPU's PassMark score based on user submitted benchmarks.
- Compare your score to the score of the Beta System Requirements (see below for a score rundown):
Minimum CPU Scores
PC:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+: 1194
Intel Pentium D 2.8 GHz: 742
Mac:
Intel Core 2 Duo: (No further specifications given at the moment, but any Mac with the Intel C2D CPU should work.)
Recommended CPU Scores
PC:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.8 GHz: 1538
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz: 1400-1600 (Different models with same frequency, no further specifications given at the moment, but should be within the range.)
Mac:
Intel Core 2 Duo: (No further specifications given at the moment, but any Mac with the Intel C2D CPU should work.)
FAQ:My score is below the minimum requirements! Won't I be able to play Diablo 3?
It depends. First and foremost these scores are based on tests uploaded by users through benchmarking software and not actual gameplay tests. Therefore the scores may not fully represent their actual performance, but they are a pin point.
Secondly, the requirements currently released are for BETA only and will very likely change (lowering the requirements) for the actual release client. The requirements are likely also "safe" so to speak that they may not actually be the absolute minimum to avoid complaints. A CPU/GPU with a lower score than the minimum may still be able to run the game.
Lastly, it is not only a fast CPU/GPU that is required. Older hardware may lack required features that are needed for the game and will thus never be able to run it.
Why is the scores different for AMD/Intel, AMD/Nvidia?
This may be because of various reasons, either the game is better optimized for one brand and thus requires less hardware power. It could also be because either does better in the benchmark tests. Either way don't take the exact scores too seriously, but rather as an average pointer.
What settings will my system be able to run smoothly?!
It's hard to say exactly atm before we can get our hands on some real tests. It also depends a lot on your setup, E.g. a screen with high resolution will require more power to run the same settings as a system with a smaller resolution. Likely Blizzard is tuning the settings so that recommended play smoothly with Medium settings and minimum at low. Check your scores relative to the requirements and you can more or less guess.
Update: You can check how your video card performs in Diablo 3 at the official page: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?locale=en_US&articleId=40659
There you can also see what cards are not unsupported. Note that the video card is not the only thing effecting your gaming performance so results may vary.
I'm going to build a new/upgrade my computer for Diablo 3! What should I buy?
Ask in the computer thread for help. We have many helpful people willing to help you out! Remember that Diablo III will not require any high-end machines so if you are buying a computer solely to play D3 then won't have to buy anything super-expensive.

AGAIN. I MEAN IT.
YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
LAST CHANCE....
OK, here you go:
This doesn't have the official stamp of approval, but a hack of d3.exe has surfaced this morning containing a LOT of information on D3. I've spent the day combing through it, and I'll paint out the story in broad strokes:
You begin by rescuing Cain and killing Skeleton King in order to reach the meteor. Once there, you find out that the meteor is actually a man, referred to in the leaks so far as a "Stranger."
After here, the information becomes a bit more speculative, but I can tell you that Act I concludes in a place called the "Halls of Agony," ushering you into Caldeum, and Act II.
Act II seems to center around a boss character named "Saddle," by whom I assume they mean Belial. Act II ends in a place called the "Archives of Zoltan Kulle."
As well, there are numerous references to a character known as "Jumper," who appears to lead the cultists, near as I can tell. Act III, as many have already surmised, centers around Bastion's Keep and (obviously) concludes within the Arreat Crater.
For those who suspected that Act IV would take you into Heaven, it appears that you may be right. With location names such as the "Silver Spire," and "Gardens of Hope," there appears to be a blurring of the boundaries between Heaven and Hell. This is somewhat speculative, but from what I can surmise from what I've seen, the Great Conflict appears to collide with the mortal world at the conclusion of the game, which, incidentally, is also Bastion's Keep.
There's a bit more information, such as samples of dialogue and such, which you can review to your liking here:

WC3/DotA on Garena, dozens of WoW independent servers and massive D2 play through direct IP would all like to have a word with you.Quote from AlcovitchNo it's not. Blizzard has used a very old but very effective form of anti piracy. CD-Key + a very strong online component of their games that people WANT to play on legit servers.
Does that stop everyone from pirating the game? no, but I doubt blizzard is too concerned about it (much like Valve doesn't even discuss the topic during any of their game developments).
Online only brings absolutely nothing to the game, only detracts from it. It's perfectly possible to have an offline mode where a character is stored in ones computer and you can play with your friends without going through the intermediary laggy Blizz server and an online mode where your character is stored online, they don't wanna do it 100% because of piracy. It's called the "Activision effect".
Saying offline isnt available because people would find a way of bringing offline into their server database is plain stupid, they couldnt do it in D2, its one thing making a client-side bot, its a whole other imputting data into their server database.
Also the whole "anti-hacking" comment is probably being made by people who play games either not caring there are "hacks" (these shouldn't even post about said matter) or not knowing how things have gone before. Both WoW and SC2 have issues with hacks and "bots", and D3 will NOT be different, specially now with such a high monetary incentive. Bots/maphacks/hacks WILL be available just like in SC2 (which has a STRONG competitive side to it, therefore would probably have all their resources mustered against hacking, and still they can't do shit because their Warden has one of the easiest to avoid detection systems in all online gaming history).
I'm glad Torchlight II will have everything D3 won't. Mods for added fun. Offline and direct IP/LAN so I'm not dependent on server maintenance and laggyness and can actually play the game I payed for with my friends. Not a lot of changes to skill points which worked FINE on Torchlight 1 (because in that game they only fixed what was actually broken, instead of assuming things based on in-house play testing with morons who complain "but but but I don't wanna make a choice whether I want this skill or that, I want to test all of them and change whenever I want sniff sniff". Even Bastion has some sort of limits imposed to when and where you can change your character skills. -

It's gonna be hard to stomach her. Especially as Catwoman whom I never liked as a character anyway. I just think conceptually she's just too stupid. I mean...cats. She bases her identity and persona on freaking cats. Those disgusting animals that English majors like to have as pets.Posted in: General Discussion (non-Diablo) - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
